Because the old fudds that run them get up at 4 am and they have to take their naps after noon.
Where they heck are you that this is the case? All the gun shows I've ever been to open around 8 or 9 and go until about 4, at least on Saturday; on Sunday, they go until 2.
Ontario, and they all run 7:30 to 1, and happen only on Sundays. They're all also at least an hour from me.
I'm still undecided... I figured I'm not going to be doing super long range shooting with it but at the same time I don't want another generic run of the mill AR15.
I'm looking at buying this so far, opinions for like 500. Its pretty much got everything I could want on it, rail, flip sights

16" Barrel length
416 Stainless steel barrel
223 Wylde Chamber
1 in 8" twist rate
Lead-lapped bore
M4 Feed ramps
MI SSK 15" Free Float Keymod Rail
A2 Flash Hider
Forged Upper Receiver
T-Marks
PSA Aluminum Flip up Front and Rear Sights
I'm also looking at this...I'm kinda leaning towards this.

Need some opinions, as I've only had a regular run of the mill AR15 - It was a Bushmaster Carbon lite (ewww).
The first upper you picked is pretty good, not my cup of tea at $500, but it is nice.
SS barrels are great, great accuracy and easy to clean.
You can always put a coolguy comp or brake or flash hider on afterwards, but the standard A2 isn't bad.
Free float handguard is a +
Tapco?
Nato length stock or Warsaw?
Are you going to give it a rattle can paint job? :D
Tapco NATO length. Not planning to paint it, but I figure it'll get me buy until I can do some more research on the Magpul stock and decide if I want it. I'd like it to have a sling mount (QD socket or even a loop) at the front near the receiver so I can run in single point.
Can't decide if I want to build a 16 inch AR or 20 inch AR. Its one of them things, like I would love to have a carbine, but at the same time I want a rifle.
5.56 likes an 18 inch barrel
Had the sks apart for cleaning and accidentally arted.

To be honest.....I hate the 10/22.
Its too heavy for a .22lr, it has no last shot hold open, its fat as fuck and the magazines are way too big.

But it is so damn reliable. I had one that easily had not been cleaner for at least 2 years and it probably had close to 300-500 rounds through it in that time, and it never jammed but maybe 2 or 3 times.

So what do you feel is a good alternative?

I haven't cleaned my Remmy 597 in 3 years, 3000 rounds, and it still shoots reliably and accurately. It also has a last-shot hold-open.
Lever .22s are my favorite. My grandpa had a Browning BL-22 that I would shoot for hours and hours, going through brick after brick of ammo (back when .22 was dirt cheap and not fudd currency).
So what do you feel is a good alternative?
I like mossberg 702s. the only drawback is that there aren't any reasonably high capacity mags available other than some unreliable 25 rounders that are meant to make the gun look like it takes much bigger bullets than it really does
mine weighs next to nothing and is pretty damn accurate. I've got it sighted in at 100 yards and it'll shoot around 2 moa at that range
canik just cerakotes all their metal bits. cerakote is normally good but they just do a shitty job at it
So what do you feel is a good alternative?
The marlin 795 or a henry lever action .22
I vote the Marlin. I got one and it is a value 22. Has smaller magazine than a Ruger and a LBHO, something that Ruger doesn't have. It's a little pricey on the mags though, $15-$20 each, and shitty aftermarket hi cap mags. The 2 big issues with the 795 is the aftermarket support and the sights from factory. Mine had the rear sight leaf wiggle itself out from shooting, Locktight fixed that. An upgrade to the sights are the Tech Sights. For around $70 you get an adjustable rear peep sight and new front sight post.
The Henry is nice if you love lever-actions but it may need some smithing. They have some issues feeding reliably out of box. The rounds are pushed up a ramp in to the chamber, then the extractor snaps onto it. The design is no Winchester where the round is set into the bolt and control fed into the chamber.

At the current cost and availability of .22lr, might as well get a 17HMR

In my area, 5.7x28 is cheaper than 45acp. I've been looking for an excuse for a PS90.
I don't even know where to find 5.7 in my area, hell I only know of like 2 places in the country that have had it, and it sure as shit wasn't cheaper than .45.
some of the gun shows ive been to had guys with tables that were just trying to sucker dumbasses in for cash desperately
this guy had a WASR-10 with rails and a red dot on a table for 1,550

.17hmr costs about the same as 7.62x39 here :/
"A WASR22 in 22LR with custom work to fit PSL parts.
It started life as a WASR22 barreled receiver and an old PSL barrel and furniture kit. I turned brass sleeves for the barrel so that the larger ID PSL barrel parts would fit on the smaller OD 22 barrel. I then had to cut down and re-weld the gas tube to a shorter length and trim the stock to fit the WASR2 back end of the receiver. I then took the innards of the WASR22 mag and installed them in a crappy working x39 mag."

I'm still trying to find the appropriate point in my life for when I'm going to justify buying a gold tiger striped Deagle brand deagle in .50 AE.
[editline]5th February 2015[/editline]
It's going to happen, I just don't know when
Been seriously looking into the idea of getting a .22LR suppressor. Problem is, I'm not 21 yet. But according to some of those suppressor companies, I'm legally able to create a gun trust and buy a suppressor through it while not being 21. I was wondering if there's any truth to that.
I don't have the money at the moment, but I'm thinking about getting a bolt-action with a threaded barrel and a decent scope, but with a 1:9 twist barrel so I can shoot heavier rounds out of it (Aguila SSS 60gr comes to mind).
[editline]no[/editline] Did some poking around, and getting a 1:9 twist .22 barrel is possible, but as expensive as the rifle that I want to put it in, even without threading. So I suppose I will stick with standard match bullets.
This has to be the softest sounding and shooting subgun I've ever seen:
