So do you guys get a chance to let others borrow your guns at the range? I had an opportunity to let somebody use my CZ today and he liked it. It felt really good be able to show someone else other weapons without having them buy it or if they're at a range where they can't rent it.
Never done that before.

They usually let me try one of theirs too.
What is a good Ak option that's not a WASR, Saiga, or VEPR? I'm leaning towards the C39V2 or RAS47 with Magpul furniture.

Except my C96. Everything else is fair game, though. People always enjoy the 109 year old double barrel.

DDI is good, new WASRs are good, Atlantics builds are good, the C39V2 is a good milled option, as are the DDI milled guns. Yugos are good, but they don't take standard furniture and neither do the milled AKs. My only gripe with the Century C39V2 or the RAS47 is the lack of bayonet lug/cleaning rod loops, it just makes the front end look funny.
How does this even happen... Not my gun.

Always a necessary back up plan to keep one more just encase you get surrounded.

With the budget I'm looking at, the RAS47 in Magpul looks like my best bet or with wood. The cleaning rod and lug don't bother me. I already have a C93 to fill that role of poking things with pointy instuments.
You got a good gunsmith around who can take a parts kit and put it together on a good brand receiver? I'd say purchase one of those Hungarian AK kits with barrels installed from AK builder and either a NoDak receiver, or a childers guns receiver, then have the gunshop finish it with drilling and pressing the rivets, and pressing the barrel in finally. We were at the range practicing for our shooting qual and one of the guys M16A4 triple fed, and somehow one of the rounds managed to flip itself completely around jamming the bullet into the locking lugs of the bolt and ramming the case between the two other rounds that were sitting half way into the chamber. Wish I would have got a picture of that. [editline]11th October 2015[/editline]
To someone whose not exactly familiar with the AK platform... I'm looking at the fire control group, right? I can make out a hammer, and a cartridge tucked up next to it... How?
The only thing I can think of is the feed lips on the mag were fucked and somehow the bolt carrier pulled the round backwards out of the magazine and while going forward lodged the bullet into the trigger spring.
No "local" AK builders in my area. Closest thing is a guy in another forum is going to run an AK build party. Bring your own kits, flats/receivers, barrels, and ammo. A company he's partnered with is loaning the tools and space to test it. I don't have the time or patience for building an AK right now. I do plan on building one in the future. What I would really like to get a few years from now is a Rifle Dynamics Ak with a triangle folding stock.
Anyone know any clever ways to display a cartridge collection? I want to get rid of this giant storage box I have and put them on display but I have no idea how to do that and make it look halfway decent.
Define how many? I would say do the whole mounting the cartridges to a felt covered board going in a spiral pattern of smallest in the center and radiating out to the largest cartridge. Each cartridge would have a number next to it and a plaque that identifies what each number is. Frame it and put glass over it. But if you literally have a rubbermaid bin full of them, think about shelving.
Lots. [t]https://i.gyazo.com/2d06330d6d41da3e06f9e9e0b906f70a.jpg[/t]
I'd OCD out on that and put all like ammo together in order from smallest to largest.

Do spirals. Make them look like ammonites in the ocean. Use extra cartridges to make other sea creatures.
Weld them in the shape of a cube and proceed to worship it.
Weld them in the shape of a cube and proceed to worship it.
Would it be called the Son of Mudercube?
I bought a case to put them in until I figure out something else to do. I figure I'll do the OCD thing and line them up from smallest to biggest, measure how big a display frame would need to be, laser-cut it out of wood or acryllic and than mount it behind plexiglass and hang it on my wall I guess.
The carbon steel is coated with a powder coating that serves as a patina. The vinegar, over time, eats it. You might get some rudimentary layer of oxidization by leaving it in vinegar, but the powder coating is far superior. It should have been oiled, not placed in acid. For guns, white vinegar is used to strip bluing, not create it.
I just remembered this stupid conversation the two of us had so I decided to post my EDC knife which I used boiling white vinegar to give a black oxide coating 3 years ago. not sure what you mean by "rudimentary layer of oxidation" either it's either FeO or it isn't, there's no in between. Kershaw's Blackwash coating (which is well known to be incredibly durable) is just plain old iron(II) oxide, the same thing that I've put on countless carbon steel knives that are all holding up even years later.

I went to my local gun store today and they have pretty much the best prices I have seen anywhere is $659 for a S&W M&P 15 Sport a good price I would like to get into a good entry level AR?

They love recommending the M&P, definitely a good value.
Ar's have dropped to below $600 in my area. If you live in a shitty state like the the ones on the coasts or Illinois, maybe an alright deal.

I'm thinking very seriously about buying a Scorpion Evo this month, with the intention of SBRing it...

They have it for like, $550 on Grabagun.
