I liked the jokes in Mastermauls OP thou :(
Ohwell.
Retoasting this because interesting.

Bought an Enfield No.2 Mk I ** Service Revolver, got it on the 5th of this month for 350.
It's a really nice gun and it's a blast to shoot. All the smoke it produces it awesome. :v:
However, it has a insanely long trigger pull. I had a picture of it around here somewhere, but I've misplaced it.
Which thread do I use, so confused.

This thread has more posts at the moment, but we are sorta unable to edit the OP if we want to add some more information and such so uh... Yeah.

The M9A3 actually sounded like a decent solution. Odd that they didn't even take one for evaluation.
Some people on the Military.com comment section made a good point by saying that for the moment it seems that this is more-or-less change for the sake of change. The US Army probably wants a handgun that is equally intimidating as it is worth the price tag.
[editline]14th January 2015[/editline]
Another thing is that some people are stating that they might just go back to the 1911... :v:
A .45 would be a good choice, I think, but definitely not the 1911.
The Army isn't going to swap away from 9mm now, though, not while they have so much sitting around.
My dad has recently gotten into guns, and I want to learn a bit more than knowing where the trigger is and which end bullets come out of. I've gone to the range with him a few times, but aside from knowing how to safely shoot, my dad hasn't taught me much of anything else. Any youtube videos that can help a beginner learn more about the different types and classifications of guns? I see all the model names and numbers in here, and I usually have no idea what they mean. Learning a bit of history on how and why different guns were developed would be pretty cool too.

The main reason they haven't upgraded yet is because most of whats been trialed is only marginal upgrades, and considering the cost, it's not really worth it. When the new space-age tech comes out and it's trialed proven and tested, then the military will probably buy into it. But if "the next big thing" is just a gas system swap, it's not worth spending a few billion to re-arm and re-train everyone.

They really should go with the M9A3, at least they can slowly replace the M9s and M9A1s with it while not changing everything drastically. Not to mention, they want a new caliber, so it's going to cost more than just a pistol swap.
I hate the M9 (it's not a terrible gun, though it has a few bad features), but I realize the ridiculousness of this new pistol program.
If anything, that M9A3 needs a frame mounted safety/de cocker like the Taurus clones, and some serious trigger work.
Frankly, there is no reason a 9mm handgun that size can't have a larger mag capacity, look at the CZ P09, 19+1, and it still has a slim, if a bit long grip and polymer frame, DA/SA with safety or de cocker.
Why is the military looking to change pistol calibers? It's not like they're used that extensively in combat, the 9mm is reasonably effective, and they have a shit tonne of it stored already. Seems to make sense to stay 9mm and not retool.
The 5.56, I understand, though. As combat distances grow, they need to go back to the older mentality of arms and less of the modern battle rifles.

They don't like the lack of effectiveness of 9mm ball; that being said, going to .40 or .45 ball wouldn't really increase effectiveness all that much either.
I feel like they should take a look at russian 7N21 and 7N31 AP bullets:
"The 7N21 (Cyrillic: 7Н21) 9×19 mm overpressure variant features an armour piercing bullet and generates a peak pressure of 280 MPa (41,000 psi).[31] The 7N21 bullet features a hardened (sub-caliber) steel penetrator core, enclosed by a bimetal jacket. The space between the core and jacket is filled with polyethylene, and the tip of the penetrator is exposed at the front of the bullet, to achieve better penetration. The penetration range for body armor is specified at up to 40 m. The MP-443 Grach and GSh-18 pistols and PP-19-01, PP-90M1 and PP-2000 submachine guns were designed for usage with this overpressure cartridge. Jane's Infantry Weapons stated in 2003 that the 7N21 cartridge combines the 9×19mm Parabellum dimensions with a 9×21mm Gyurza bullet design and was developed specifically for the penetration of body armor and for the MP-443 Grach pistol, the latest Russian service pistol.[33]
The 7N31 (Cyrillic: 7Н31) / PBP 9×19mm overpressure variant uses the same concept with a similar but lighter bullet that achieves higher muzzle velocity. The penetration of an 8 mm thick steel plate is specified at up to 10 m. The 7N31 cartridge was developed in the late 1990s for the GSh-18 pistol. The 7N31 was adopted for the PP-90M1 and PP-2000 submachine guns. Its maximum service pressure remains unclear.
The method of construction of the two rounds allows them to be effective against both unarmored and armored targets. If the bullet strikes an unarmored target, it holds together to produce a wide wound channel. If the bullet strikes an armored target, the sleeve is stripped away and the core penetrates alone. The disadvantage of the rounds is that high impact velocities are needed for them to work effectively, so the bullets are relatively light to maximize their muzzle velocity. This means they will lose velocity relatively quickly, limiting their effective range."
So instead of arming the guys with 9mm ball, arm them with 9mm AP. Problem solved...
No, wait...
Speaking of russian things...
Magpul came out with new AK goodies.
Steel reinforced AK Pmags are $27

Also new folding stock that looks like a little robo boot:

The new promo is kind of funny:

The question is though, buy AK Pmags at $27 a piece or get smexy, collectable bakelite mags for $34 a piece...
Bakelite, don't ask again or I'm going to pull your AK license.
It feels weird being really liberal in almost every way, except I want relaxed gun laws.

I promise, nothing magpul will ever touch my AKs :P
Ugh, I wish AK74 bakelites weren't $50 a pop... I bought a lonely 1 that was quite minty looking.
I also need to take some Afghan war AKS-74 pics with it.

relaxed gun laws is a liberal concept, just american liberals aren't liberal.

Hey, us liberals are liberal. I just can't help it Faux and the Dems don't know what liberalism means.
relaxed gun laws is a liberal concept, just american liberals aren't liberal.
It could be argued that the current "Liberal" party is more/mostly Progressive than liberal.
We could argue the point but it has nothing to do with gorgeous bakelit magazines and glorious Kalash.
progressive is too nice a word, I'm going with statist
It feels weird being really liberal in almost every way, except I want relaxed gun laws.
If it makes you feel better, I'm sure your definition of relaxed isn't anywhere near mine.

Dat muzzle report, doe.
I'm willing to bet its the single chamber brake that makes that awesome "308 battle rifle" sound. Much deeper and awesome-r than the M16A2 in Fun-Switch-Mode.
progressive is too nice a word, I'm going with statist
Well, technically statism is polar opposite on the political spectrum from liberalism. Atleast, according to the classical French-based system which pretty much may as well be forgotten about.
It is funny listening to Facebook threads of people arguing that Liberalism is statism and conservitism is freedom from government, though.

probably because you're not an actual liberal.
