My local pawnshop has a Mosin M44 that by appearance looks in good condition. It's 250$ and has an aftermarket 3 point leather strap and no other accessories as far as I know. I know I can always haggle down.
Anything to look for on it besides bore?
Is it worth it?

Unless its a 100% condition with a shiny bore and you can get it for $200, then no.

Those long thick legs and that short squishy face..... I better stop typing.
In other news took friends AR to the range and sighted in the rifle. Blew threw 200rounds because fuck w.e I'm bored.

Not bad for alittle 9x scope @ 100 yards. As close to sighted in as I wanted to do on this 30*F snowing fucking day. And only thing he's gonna do is shoot at a hog using M855's.... what could go wrong.

$250 for an M44 is sort of steep. TBH I'd rather just get a beat to shit type 53 and spend the rest on ammo and a triangle hat.

Actually, it isn't; M44s have usually cost more than 91/30s, and it was for the longest time sitting around $200, now it seems they average $230+
http://www.slickguns.com/search/apachesolr_search/M44?op=
Most M44's go around the 200.00 mark from what I've seen.
Considering how cheap they are anyway I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for one I know is going to be nice. I'd have paid $250 for my 91/30 if it hadn't come in cosmoline and I could have seen from the start it was as nice as it was.

The only other Mosins I would pay more than $100 for, besides an M44 is a Finn M39 or a US made Mosin.
Every full-length Mosin I've seen in person has been $170-200 and then carbines are anywhere from $200-300. I'd happily pay $250 for a carbine in very good condition, maybe haggle a bit lower if it's just alright. I'm sure you can find a Chinese beater for $100-150, but I don't see the point, why not spend a little more and get something in better condition and of better manufacture?
unless you bought it out of a crate it may not have been the soviets who refurbed it. A guy could have had a sporter nugget that he restored back to original-ish condition with parts bought online
I got it out of a crate. All serials match, just the one thing I noticed was the one barrel band was different and the stock. It had been cleaned by the gunshop before they sold it to me though, most of the cosmoline was already gone. They took it out, cleaned it, put it back in.

If you're going to spend that much and want a better condition Mosin, find a Finn M39; you'll pay $400-500 for one, but you won't regret it.
I can't believe that 91/30s are up so much in price, I paid $125 a piece for pre war parts matching Tula and Izhevsk back in 2008, when most were $80 for your run of the mill wartime refurb.

I totally want an M39 as soon as I can find one, but it's not a carbine, which is what he was asking about. If you want a full-length rifle then even at gun show prices you can get a good condition 91/30 for $200, and if it does the same thing as a $400-500 M39 then I wouldn't jump straight to the M39. For a carbine, spending $100-150 on a Chinese T53 in poor shape just seems like a waste of money to me when just a hundred bucks more would get you a much better rifle. I suppose if I ran across a T53 that was mechanically sound with a good bore at that price then I'd consider it, but I've personally never seen or handled one that didn't feel like rusted junk.
The days of $80 Mosins seem to be long gone and I doubt they'll be returning so we have to work with what we've got. On the bright side it makes guns a hell of an investment scheme- a 150% increase in value over half a decade is nothing to sneeze at.

If you put in some effort you can fix up a Type 53 to look just as nice as the majority of your M44s, I'd understand if you wanted a Russian made one for the historic value but saying the two are far apart in manufactured quality is just not true. Honestly I feel the reason most people have a bias against the gun is their own personal prejudices towards anything Chinese made. If you want to spend 100 extra dollars for some Russian hallmarks that's your prerogative but it seems wasteful to me.
You can find good condition Type 53's, its just you have to find them in pawn shops and gun stores. The majority of them were stored at the bottom of a lake in Vietnam for 50 years before making their way to the US. A lot of them are beaters but you CAN find ones that have shiny bores and working bolts.
get a m44, saw the barrel off and stock off and duct-tape the grip
and bam you got an obrez machinegun

OH my God, please tell me how you got the awesome decals on the back? Where can I get them, and can I get one with the Black Mesa logo?
What do you guys think is a good selling price for a used but great condition Ruger 10/22? I'm selling mine but I think I set the price too low. I know the guy I'm selling it to, so i cut him a deal and he's giving me $200 for it.

On a Glock, it's probably a replacement plate.

You can buy a 10/22 brand new for around $200. Sounds more like this guy is cutting you a deal and giving you MSRP for a used rifle.

They're replacement back plates, you can find them all over the place, every site makes them differently. This is one site that i used http://www.ndzperformance.com. I also used ebay.
Went to the range today to try out some Liberty Civil Defense ammo. Stuff was really snappy for a .45 round. Even though it says it has "reduced recoil" compared to a traditional load.
Also met this really cool older gentleman. He talked about his gun collection and I mostly listened.

Ruger website puts the 10/22 carbine (my rifle) at $290, so i think i'm being relatively fair, considering that i'm also giving him two aftermarket 30rnd magazines with it.

i would very much like a solar powered optic that does not require batteries
