Uhh, 1911's are among the most reliable design. Anything based off the 1991 model is both safe and extremely reliable. 1911's are mechanically simple and feed from ultra reliable single stack magazines. I have no idea where you got the idea that they aren't.
The it's been 100 years since the 1911 was invented. Gun design has come a long way. I personally wouldn't consider the 1911 to be any more than a range toy when compared to more modern guns that are far more mechanically simple than the 1911, handle abuse better and handle girt and grime better.
My FNX is a 15 round doublestack of .45 and it is remarkably reasonable in size. Similar to a duty glock. Recoil is also really minor. Gun is amazeballs. When I get home I'll try and take some pictures of my 1911 next to my FNX.
I own a 1911. A series 70s that can't go through a 50 round box w/o jamming at least twice. I have owned another one that was a little better, but jammed once every 50 rounds. The entire gun is a gunsmith pistol by today's standards. It can't even come close to today's modern polymer wonder 9's. On top of that, even 1911's that cost an arm and a leg choke straight from factory. It wasn't until the gun was sent back a second time that it finally functioned properly. TTAG reviewed the same exact premium 1911 3 times. It took 2 trips back to the factory and a personal visit before it was fixed. Part 1 http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/12/daniel-zimmerman/gun-review-cabot-guns-black-diamond/ Part 2 http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/12/jon-wayne-taylor/gun-review-cabot-guns-black-diamond-update/ Part 3 http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/02/jon-wayne-taylor/cabot-black-diamond-exonerated/ It can be made very accurate, but by the time you do that, you need a tool to disassemble the gun for basic maintenance. BTW, Series 70's do not have firing pin blocks, Series 80's and newer do.
In my experience 1911s have only jammed due to feed (magazine) issues. I've never had one not work with a decent magazine. I'm not trying to restart this fire but I was just curious about the actual reason since every time I've seen it brought up in this thread it goes "I'm going to CC my 1911!" followed by 3 pages of "DON'T CC A 1911 U IDIOT GET A GLOCK" seemingly without much explanation. I'd prefer to carry my 1911 over my revolver, but my revolver is a big .357 single action army clone with a timing issue. Ultimately I plan on getting a Witness Hunter since I know I can conceal one under my coat without it printing.
Because Glock is the official gat of Cops and Gangbangers alike!

My Auto-Ordnance 1911A1 has issues with Hornady Z-Max because of the taper of the bullet, but it feeds Gold Dot, XTPs, and Golden Sabers just fine.
I only feed mine ball so that's probably got something to do with it.
I like having guns in mutiple calibers to spice it up. My CZ 75 is like the ultimate 9mm but I really want a USP but I can't decide on 9mm or 45
45
Got the dogleg installed on the AK, but the rear sight has serious wobble, so I'm waiting to hear back from TWS on that... [editline]30th March 2015[/editline] And FP was on phpBB for a minute there...
They gave me a call this afternoon and told me to just crank down on the rear sight, which I did, and now it's locked down tight. Also traded up to a CTR stock instead of a MOE, which doesn't rattle thanks to the locking lever.
i dunno why i cant find this shit online but its not that bad
Its sold only at Academy and its made by Privi Partizan. [editline]31st March 2015[/editline] So much want. The YOV-10D is the coolest version of the awesome OV-10 Bronco ever. Check out that dropping turret with a 25mm rotary cannon!
So during a debate about a bill that would make it so I don't need to ask permission to take my handgun to the gun range, NDP MP Marc-Andre Morin said "Nobody would hunt moose with an AK-47 because it'd tear the moose in half." A gun dealer, CTC Supplies, posted this online in response:

Also whatever ball ammo is cheap. I've never had a malfunction in probably 1200 rounds now. Also because I said I'd post pictures comparing them: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/XjlhZXd.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/LW6O9cs.jpg[/img_thumb] Impressive that one is a 15 round doublestack of .45 and the other is a single stack.

You can just see the poor bastards arm loosing the fight to the weight of a Mosin an an AK combined.
Guys, look how big my dick is now. Bit of an early birthday present to myself.

They're as big as Desert Eagles.
Holy hell, never realized how fuckhuge those mark 23's are
Compared to normal full-sized guns like Glocks, XDs, 1911s, etc, it is large in comparison. Honestly though, side-by-side, it isn't much larger than the standard USP and USP Tactical. Definitely has more "meat" to it though compared to the standard ones.

Anyone know of any decent/reputable red dot (or similar) sights that I could slap on an AR-15 and not have to dish out too much cash for (~$150)?
How good of a brand is Waffen Werks? I saw one of their AK74s and I really want to get it.
Anyone know of any decent/reputable red dot (or similar) sights that I could slap on an AR-15 and not have to dish out too much cash for (~$150)?
I have no experience with it, but i've heard good things about the Bushnell TRS-25.
Something just popped up in my youtube subscriptions and I'm curious to hear opinions of what was said
Something just popped up in my youtube subscriptions and I'm curious to hear opinions of what was said
There's nothing really controversial about what he said. There's a reason the gun community stresses discipline so much in firearms safety, because that's what it all boils down to. Muzzle discipline. Trigger discipline. The discipline to make sure the chamber is cleared when it should be. The discipline to make sure that your gear is kept in working order. Discipline to make sure your firearms are secured and that those around you know how to handle them properly. It's all your responsibility, there are no accidents. We've moved from using the term 'accidental discharge' (AD) to 'negligent discharge' (ND), because again, there are no accidents, just negligence. Even if someone who wasn't aware (like a child, who couldn't be blamed if he were not aware) got a hold of your firearm and fired it, the fault boils down to your lack of discipline in storing it. Even if there were some critical flaw in the engineering of a particular firearm (in some AK derivatives you can drop the hammer by lifting the safety lever past the dust cover) where you tap it lightly on the receiver and the hammer drops, it should be within your discipline to know this and not to use that weapon. The man in the video is largely correct. Firearms "just go off" when discipline fails.
Anyone know of any decent/reputable red dot (or similar) sights that I could slap on an AR-15 and not have to dish out too much cash for (~$150)?
You can not even come close to beating the Primary Arms Red Dots for their price: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_s/586.htm I've used them on ARs for thousands and thousands of rounds, and they continue to work without issue. They get excellent reviews all over the web. I've used this particular one for several years now on my Colt: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_30mm_Red_Dot_GEN_II_p/pa30mmrdgenii.htm
ADs and NDs aren't the same thing, though? [editline]2nd April 2015[/editline] i mean, i know what you mean and i agree (people pulling the trigger on a not cleared gun isn't an accident, but negligence, as the person should have been aborted), but i think we should differentiate between the two terms
Well, in my experience we (as in the firearms community at large) previously used the term AD for what was really an ND.
how have they not been sued by aimpoint yet? wtf
Other than the outward appearance, they are not even remotely similar (I have a CompM3 as well). Dimensions are different in almost every aspect, as well as internals obviously. Also, none of Aimpoint's branding is used. Aimpoint wouldn't have a case.
How good of a brand is Waffen Werks? Now owned by DDI, who also will fix your Waffen Werks AK if it is messed up.

I have a flattop without any irons/MBUS on it, so I just want to make sure I don't get some mount that is a skyscraper.
