What mount do you use on that sight? I have a flattop without any irons/MBUS on it, so I just want to make sure I don't get some mount that is a skyscraper.
I use an actual Aimpoint QRP1 mount. You can get used QRPs on ebay for decent prices sometimes. I think I paid around $30 for mine. It's a self torquing mount that keeps your zero if you take it off and put it back on. Here is a QRP2 that only has 21 hours left, and no bids: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aimpoint-QRP2-Mount-30mm-With-Removable-Spacer-/261827604853?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf6243175. Anything under $60 is a good price for the QRP2. It's an expensive mount normally.
Oh, I didn't know they're owned by a different company. How can I contact them to see if they'll fix my rifle?
What's up with that giant ass knob on the side? Does that come off, or get in the way at all?
Oh, I didn't know they're owned by a different company. How can I contact them to see if they'll fix my rifle?
I'd give them a call and ask about warrantied repair of a Waffen Werks.
ADs and NDs aren't the same thing, though? [editline]2nd April 2015[/editline] i mean, i know what you mean and i agree (people pulling the trigger on a not cleared gun isn't an accident, but negligence, as the person should have been aborted), but i think we should differentiate between the two terms
The idea is that accidental discharges don't exist because to have a gun go off when it's not supposed to is caused by negligence.
It just takes a little foresight, some discipline, and knowing your firearm to not accidentally shoot yourself or someone else.
The idea is that accidental discharges don't exist because to have a gun go off when it's not supposed to is caused by negligence.
From a purely mechanical standpoint though it's useful to describe the difference between 'I accidentally pulled the trigger and shot myself' and 'I flipped the safety and the worn decocker allowed the hammer to hit the primer and I shot myself'. If you're treating a gun properly then an accidental discharge shouldn't be harmful, but accidental discharges can happen for reasons other than negligence, especially with older designs.
I had my AR go off in my lap while I was clearing it. The extractor didn't grab the chambered round when I cycled it, and like an idiot I assumed that meant the chamber was clear and pulled the trigger to drop the hammer. It was pointed in a safe direction (the brick wall), but it broke one of my favorite records. Taught me a really important lesson though: always double check. My fault.
So may buy a 140 year old pistol 450$ and its in working condition only downside is the scarcity of ammo which would necessitate loading my own cartridges. [editline]2nd April 2015[/editline] Should I go for it or wait for a cap and ball to pop up?
What kind? I wouldn't hesitate, personally, lead bullets are easy to cast, and remember you can always sell it or offer it as a trade later. Antique guns only accumulate value.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/8Jyw0v1.jpg?1[/t] Made a project of refinishing the stock my 1912 Austrian K98. Coming along nicely so far, about 4 more coats to go and she'll be perfect. [editline]3rd April 2015[/editline] oh ja ze austreich ja. [editline]3rd April 2015[/editline] Also, anyone got any strong opinions on the Zastava M77, the 308 RPK they sell? I'm seriously considering one as soon as I sell off my Bushwacker M17.
Anyone know of any decent/reputable red dot (or similar) sights that I could slap on an AR-15 and not have to dish out too much cash for (~$150)?
if a used bushnell holosight pops up on armslist or whatever pick that up. it shoudl fall right into your price range. if you can't find one or don't want to buy used, go for a bushnell trs-25, or anything by primary arms. My fault.
magazine out, chamber check, and never drop the hammer on a fully closed bolt if you're not trying to shoot the gun. that was completely your fault. [editline]3rd April 2015[/editline] You also probably shouldn't have had a round chambered to begin with.
Yep, I fully agree that it was my fault. Even the failure to extract was on me because the magazine misfed when I loaded it and when I cleared it I just allowed the loose cartridge to slide into the chamber and then closed the bolt on it slowly by hand. I just didn't remember that when I went to clear it the next day, and stupidly assumed that I hadn't chambered one at all. It was an opportunity to learn some gun safety hows and whys that I otherwise would probably have neglected out of ignorance. I had a round chambered because at the time my mom's friend who was staying in the house had a psycho ex death-threat situation and he had showed up drunk & armed before. I was disarming after he had calmed down, I don't normally keep my guns loaded except the .45.
I keep wanting to just buy a Vortex or PA red dot for my AUG but I can't shake the feeling of just spending more and getting an Aimpoint with Troy BUIS. I feel as though I shouldn't skimp on a $1500 gun. But if those sights work just as well, why not? People can never really prove why an aimpoint is better, they just say it is
If you feel like you're going to want the more expensive one in the future, just drop the ball on it first and be done with it. Otherwise you're going to spend more money coming to the same conclusion.

Welp, I stripped the clamp on my TRS 25. Time to go to ACE tomorrow and get a nut to go on the screw and hold the thing in place,
Welp, I stripped the clamp on my TRS 25. Time to go to ACE tomorrow and get a nut to go on the screw and hold the thing in place,
get timeserts if you have the tooling to use them. just need a drill and tap, and a bit of red loctite.
i lost the other half of my gun guys what do i do
Time for a new short stroke piston upper upgrade! Yaaaaaay! Direct impingement? More like direct to the garbage.
I think the nut with blue loctite will be better. The aluminum for the clamp is ultra soft. I would do this if it was like an aimpoint or something a little more valuable. This is a $100 RDS and I can't justify spending 50-120 bucks on a kit to fix it. The piece that wedges into the rails is going to act like a washer instead whenIi crank down on the nut, so not a terrible loss. Now spending a few hundred to get a pre WWI Colt into working order, even if the barrel is a little pitted ,is something I would drop cash on.
I use threaded inserts on things much softer than aluminum. if you do it right it'll never strip out.

Sent it back and they adjusted the headspacing and mag catch, and then it worked great. WW is gone now, another shop sells their guns and maintains them, including older WW branded ones.
Can anyone help me find a Rolling Block receiver or similar single shot receiver for cheap? I'd like to build a .357 single shot pistol or rifle, whatever the receiver is. I'd like a rolling or falling block if I can, I don't care what the caliber is. Do they sell geissele triggers for flintlocks? :v
Do you have a raging hard on for that style or are you looking for a good single shot system? I just would prefer an older one because I'd like to take a "junk" one and give it new life, as well as having a firearm I made/modified be something so pass down to my kids some day.
