Yea the reason people buy those overpriced bullpups IS BECAUSE THERE IS LITERALLY NO ALTERNATIVE. Everyone is smart enough to know that an SKS in a bullpup config is shit and that a baseline AKM in a bullpup config is shit. Literally, the only other option is to pay $1600 for a Tavor, $1,200 for a shit tier aug, $1,600 for a Aug, or 30,000 for a discontinued FS2000. If there were a $800 alternative, most people would buy said alternative rather than spending twice that amount for a marginal increase in quality. What is even your point dood.
I'm talking about the US market exclusively, not the CAD market. That was my entire point, it isn't in the $2K + market, so people who would spend $800-1K on an AR but don't want an AR or Mini-14 would buy it. It isn't in the same price bracket and it isn't in the same class as most, if not all other purpose built bullpups. All I'm saying is, it wouldn't necessarily poach buyers from the US bullpup market, but I'm not saying that bullpup enthusiasts wouldn't buy one in addition to other bullpups just to round out the collection. Are we talking guns or business market analysis now? I'm confused...
And that's why it would have a larger market, is because people who want a bullpup but don't want to spend $2k+ would buy it. It would also poach from that market because with the railed full-top upper, you can mount whatever optic you want on it, just like the Tavor, so people would wonder "Why am I saving up this immense amount of cash when China makes what I want for much less money?" China doesn't need to make a gun that costs $2K+, the whole point is they make one similar for less money to pull people out of that market. That, and most people wouldn't want to spend $2K+ on something made in China. Hell, some people here don't want to spend the $1K on the T97, despite everyone who owns one raving about it.
How can it not compete? It's a bullpup based on an AK platform and it runs. And it's around half the cost of any overpriced bullpup we get out of Belgium or Israel. It's based on one of the PLA's main infantry weapons and I've never heard of them or anyone else having issues with it. It has an aftermarket as well. You're figuratively shoving your fingers in your ears and going "La la la can't hear you". call the cops
I wasn't debating reliability, I based my market assessment of it on it's features compared to western bullpups. I forgot one actually, this could compete quite well with the M17S (the older ones, but not so much the K&M version), but I don't see those taking the bullpup market by storm. And no, I won't SWAT you, that's just rude (among many other things). [editline]6th April 2015[/editline]
people who want a bullpup but don't want to spend $2k+ would buy it.
Isn't that what I said? Some people didn't want to spend $250 on AKs from China either. Bullpups are more popular and more plentiful now, but the US shooter has always been a choosy one. Considering we're awaiting three more bullpups in the $2K+ range, I'd say people are willing to pay it here at least. Bullpups just haven't achieved AR-15 status and still occupy a small percentage of the market, smaller than AKs, and they're pretty mainstream. Frankly, I can't speculate anymore than that, as I've never polled gun owners on their thoughts about bullpups; any conclusions I've drawn were based on product comparisons and apparent sales. What was my point? I was arguing against your exaggerated, exasperated and/or heavily biased statements. There was no "point".
Said goodbye to my Enfield today and traded it for a good-condition MAB D and $50. Maybe not the best decision, but I have lots of rifles and all my pistols are either impractically gigantic or delicate antiques. The MAB is actually chambered in an affordable caliber and thanks to the thumb ridge my mother can use this gun since she's got nerve damage in her hands from a car accident that has made it difficult for her to maintain a grip on other guns. Still, it wasn't easy letting go of the Enfield. He's a collector at least so I know he'll take care of it; and he told me if I didn't like the MAB after shooting it he'd swap me back. About as reliable as a gen one M-16 covered in mud, and won't reliably feed off a mag with more than 20 rounds in it.
I'd rather have the Type 97 over a M17. It actually has useable sights over the M17's pistol sights.
I'd rather have the Type 97 over a M17. It actually has useable sights over the M17's pistol sights.
If I could trade my piece of shit M17 for a Type 97, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I just want a bullpup rifle that is under $1k and is not a normal rifle shoved into an aftermarket stock.

Does anyone have the Makarov dick picture from /k/?

I don't know. They might catch onto its not an L85 since it will be the only one still cycling after a day at the range.
Just here to tell you all to buy an AUG and never look back

The Aussies here may find this interesting: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/buyback-has-no-effect-on-murder-rate/2006/10/23/1161455665717.html
As always, some people will never understand, guns don't kill people, people kill people, even if you give them evidence and studies. Banning, restricting, or taking guns from law abiding citizens just doesn't make sense. Even if you completely remove ALL firearms from said country or state, criminals will either import their firearms, illegally, as always, or resort to some other tool. Like the good 'ol UK with their knife related murders. "Dr Baker said many more lives would have been saved had the Government spent the $500 million on mental health or other programs rather than on destroying semi-automatic weapons." That is something more countries should focus on, that and poverty rates.
Camwi, how about a Mandalorian color scheme on your 1911? That looks worse than a bubba-rattle-can-special paint job.

Can we talk about equipment here?
Am jelly of that setup.
I know everyone's moved to modular rails and handstops and UBR stocks and magnified EOTechs but I've always really liked the look I got down. Haven't had a chance to weigh the thing though.
I'm thinking about buying my first firearm, an antique rifle. Can anyone vouch for the validity of gunbroker.com? Thinking about buying this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=476467310 Also if anyone here is from Maryland, I was doing research and I don't think I'd need any special permission to get this delivered to my door but if anyone knows otherwise please let me know. Boy was my perception of Maryland gun laws skewed since I've always been a handgun fan.

If you want an old rifle, go for a Mosin Nagant PU Sniper. They are rare now, but I found this one on Gun Broker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=477369624#PIC

I'm not really buying this to shoot, it's probably my favorite rifle aesthetically and I'd love to just have it as a mantlepiece. I also found out the dealer actually sells reproduction firing pins for the model so if I ever get into making cartridges for it I wouldn't have to worry about damaging the gun. Also my family has Prussian lineage so I'd love to have the gun of my ancestry.

Go ahead if you just want a mantle piece, it is a nice rifle.

I like eotechs, never had the money to afford one, let alone a decent AR-15, but it's something I would want. The dual tone looks nice, especially with the way you have the rails done. Gursh it so purty.
