no shit but theres a huge difference between the rounds and the guns that fire them. It's like saying instead of getting a Ruger Mark III, you should just get a AR pistol in 5.56. Same diameter afterall.... [editline]17th January 2015[/editline] tl;dr NFA says that any firearm with a barrel of under 16 inches redesigned to fire from the shoulder is a NFA firearm. By shouldering a firearm with the sigbrace with a barrel of under 16 inches, you are redesigning the firearm into a NFA weapon. tl;dr2: shoestring all over again. Sure as shit glad I didn't buy into the fad.
there's no illegal way to fire a legal weapon. holding a pistol with both hands constitutes a redesign by the logic in that letter.
Except 9mm is faster than .40S&W in everything but the lightest of loads...
a 100-200 fps difference but quite a big weight difference, which is why .40 is superior, and why .357 sig is the best of the bunch. [editline]17th January 2015[/editline]
there's no illegal way to fire a legal weapon. holding a pistol with both hands constitutes a redesign by the logic in that letter.
You're assuming the BATFE runs off logic. Like I said, shoestring all over again.
the shoestring thing makes sense in some way. what would they say about all the people that shoulder the buffer tube then?
Probably "Don't do that *shakes fist angrily*". I've never read into anything about what the BATFE has said about shouldering the buffer tube so I can't really say much about it, other than it's probably a bunch of bullshit thats illogical and contradicts itself.
the shoestring thing makes sense in some way. what would they say about all the people that shoulder the buffer tube then?
Under this ruling, that's redesigning. Funnily enough, it's also breaking the law by using two hands on a pistol now because as the language in that letter states, it's a "redesign" since pistols are "designed" to be shot one-handed. Sucks to be one of the millions of Americans who are apparently manufacturing SBR's by firing a pistol two-handed. Fucking ATF man.

Has the ATF ever made a ruling on making a bumpinator stock for a C96?

I thought the stock was a separate item all together..?
its pretty funny how a lot of people are starting to sell off their AK and AR pistols now that the BATFE slapped that shit down. This is why you don't buy into fads.
Being out of commission fucking sucks. My air rifle broke so I couldn't do any snowshoe hunting, and I'm not going ironsights with my .22LR These guys usually buy each coyote fur for $50 to $100 and snowshoes for $10 to $30. Good money if you have the time and don't give two shits about laying down in snow
This is going to kill the pistol market, and there are a lot of cool subguns and other rifles that were coming out with sig braces.
It's going to kill the retarded not-a-SBR market, not the pistol market. If anything, this is going to give more of a push to get rid of/update NFA laws instead of trying to pussyfoot around them and find loopholes that the BATFE will nullify.
Good thing I shoot handguns better one handed than two

So... is it legal to bumpfire something like a Keltec Sub2k?
Bump firing a Sub2k is kinda pointless. The setup needed to get a bump fire stock on it would be more work than it's worth. The charging handle reciprocates and needs freedom of movement.
It seems sorta worth it, but yeah I get what you mean. Hopefully one of these days we'll be able to register new automatics and things like the American 180 will come back to open market. The idea of being able to own and shoot one of those is sorta a pipe dream, but it'd be so much fun to have. Hell, imagine having a full-auto reproduction of an MP-40 or Thompson. Maybe even the Type 100 SMG.
So I heard the U.S. navy is going to reveal its new railgun system february 4th, can't wait to see what kind of ass kicking devices we will see in the future once they shrink it down enough to carry.
its pretty funny how a lot of people are starting to sell off their AK and AR pistols now that the BATFE slapped that shit down. This is why you don't buy into fads.
There are 4 SB-15 kits on a local gun board for sale. But, now that the ATF has made this ruling, I have a full auto parts kit that I intend to install. I'll just never switch it off semi, thus redesigning the gun into a legal semi automatic firearm.
What is the lowest barrel/gun length you can go to without getting in to the whole reclassification/SBR area? I was just wondering because I'm going to start a AR15 build and I'm deciding if I want to go with a 20 inch (I want to build a M16 style rifle - A2 stock, etc) or if i want to get make something along the lines of a carbine.
Sixteen inches I think.
It's sixteen inches, which is why most carbines are sold with 16 1/2" barrels. It's 18" for shotguns.
By the way, is anyone else on board with a major graphic and information overhaul of the OP? I believe it'd be in our best interest to at least help out people who come in here from around the world to understand firearms a little more easily.

Always go with 1/4 inch longer though, just to be safe. with that said, theres ways you can get around having a shorter barrel but without it being an SBR. For instance, you can have a M4 length (14') barrel and pin/weld a 2 inch long flash hider/faux can to bring the overall length of the barrel to 16'. Thats really popular with guns that are designed to be short, like MP-5 clones, Krink clones, and a lot of sub guns. You know, I've always wondered if anyone has ever tried to challenge the size limit by making a double barrel shotgun with nine inch barrels... :v:
The ATF looks at double barrels as two separate guns as far as I know - two barrels, two hammers, two triggers.
Well, fuck. Shots fired near Biden's home in Delaware, apparently. I wonder if he has his double barreled shotgun at the ready?
