Bought a brass SMLE buttplate from Liberty Tree Collectors to replace the aftermarket plastic (though shaped just like the original brass) buttplate. It was only US$12 plus US$7 shipping to Australia.

There's a WMA right next to it too for anything non-waterfowl. It's a bit of a trek for a Jacksonville drive, but it is an awesome place I have gone to a few times living in Tallahassee.

Shoving $500+ onto a $100 rifle is dumb IMO. Just buy a $600 rifle and it'll be infinitely better. Same goes for the SKS. If you want a compact platform rifle use that $500 to get a carbine like a sub2000, or splurge on that new scorpion from cz it's pretty awesome.

I've been to Austria, and that's exactly the only thing I could think during the bus drive from Prague to Vienna was how gorgeous it'd be to hunt in their mountains. My God, they make everything in the U.S. so bland.
