Obama mentioned gun control again... I hope prices don't shoot up again.

Yep, be ready..
Not only will people panic again, but we'll have to defend why we have the hobby we do.
Man, right after we finally started getting .22 back in up here, now you all are going to devour it in a paranoid frenzy again.
.22 is still almost mythical in Denver.
So C-42 passed, which means that I no longer need a permission slip to go to the range with my pistols.
The problem? That part of the legislation doesn't come into force until 9 months from now, and there's an election in the meantime that could very well see the next government undo this before I even get a chance to use it.
What the fuck is .22?
Really? What is this madness?
I got my Model 10 back finally, and it's now in good working order! Only problem is after shooting CLP into it and running the action a couple times I noticed a hairline crack in the wrist when the CLP soaked through it from the inside. I don't think it's serious right now but I don't know how to stop it from getting worse.

Remington Model 10, so the wrist of the stock, right? Best thing I've found for fixing hairline cracks in wood is to apply a bit of pressure to open the crack a bit, then fill it with wood epoxy with a painter's spatula, wipe off the excess, and let it dry. Probably best not to shoot until you've reinforced it, because recoil will make it worse.
Yeah, it's a Remington M10. It's on the left side, not very long and it's completely invisible without the CLP showing it. You can't widen it enough with pressure to apply epoxy or anything, so I guess all I can do is keep an eye on it and deal with it when it's large enough to work with.

AK 74M soon stalker. I'm so excited

If it's possible, I'd pull the stock off and do a little more drastic fix. Drill a hole starting from where the stock would mount on the receiver into the area with crack. Then fill it with some epoxy and shove a threaded 1/4"-3/8" rod into the hole and let it set.
If it's a small crack or too far out from center, the putty method works just fin.
This was one of the fixes that has been used for bolt action rifles that are prone to cracking at the wrist.
Tomorrow I'm calling around to see if the pawn shops the store has on file want <35 for a transfer. The closest LGS wants 35, and one further away wants 45 (whaaat). What happened to the industry standard of $20.00 for an ffl transfer?

It went to the same place as all the $99 mosins and $50 spam cans of 54r. Which is just down the road from $500 PSL's and $60 SKS', which is just across the street from 10c a round 7.62x39.
Apparently, my Grandpa who was in the 70th Tank Battalion in WWII brought back something a little on the rare side that I never knew about. A Pre-war, Belgian made Hi-power, at least that's what it sounds like from the description my father gave me and the pictures I showed him. I'm not sure how much they're worth, but it seems like it's pretty rare(Not that I'd sell it, it'd be worth 100x that to me in sentimental value if I did have it). Nevertheless, it's not in my immediate families possession either way, my uncle got my grandfathers guns when he passed since he was the only one in the family who had any interest at the time. Me and my father are going to go visit him this weekend, hopefully I can get to see it.
My dad made my ears perk up when he said it was a browning automatic and made me think "BAR IN THE CLOSET AT GRAMMIES", but my dong was made slightly less stiff when he described it as a 9mm pistol of Belgian make. Still, a nice little legacy piece from my Grandpa's march through Europe, hopefully I'll get to see that and some of the other goodies he has stashed away.
Guys, I'm confused. My AR sat over in storage without a cleaning after only 150 rounds or so at the range for 2 weeks. I've done it before, but now the flash hider is coated in rust on the inside, there appears to be corrosive salts on the tip of the actual barrel, and the latter half of the barrel's rifling is no longer shiny and chrome like it should be.
I used Silver Bear .223 through it and while a dirty round, it shouldn't be corrosive like that. I'm more leaning towards humidity, as it's been raining pretty much every day for 2 months here, and another gun with a wooden stock was covered in mold.
I know how to get rid of the rust, but what's going on? I've never heard of humidity causing rust only on the inside of the barrel and flash hider, just causing patches over the entire gun. My other guns have sat in roughly the same conditions for YEARS and have little to no rust. I should also note that the 7-8" of barrel coming from the receiver is clean and shiny, as well as the BCG being sooty but not rusted.
The reason corrosive ammo is damaging is not because it's corrosive, but because the corrosive salts attract water and that causes the rust. Even non-corrosive ammo is hydrophilic too, but to a smaller degree, so if you have relatively clean ammo it doesn't leave a lot of it in your barrel and people don't worry about it. However, even if the ammo's non-corrosive, if it's dirty stuff it'll leave a lot of residue, and then if it's humid then it'll attract a lot of water and you get corrosion.
If it's really humid out and you're shooting ammo that isn't quite squeaky-clean I'd say you should do a light cleaning before you put the gun away.
I just have a bucket of loose .22 that someone offered me $200 for at the range one day.
I've got about 1400 rounds of .22 still.

The thing is, there's only rust on the muzzle end of the gun, not in the action, which was left open and was dirtier than the barrel. It's not serious, as it's fairly light rust and I've removed most with some fine steel wool, I was just puzzled as to how it would rust like that without putting corrosive ammo through it.
Also quick question, I've always wanted a piston AR for cleanliness purposes, would it be worthwhile to just build my own upper and buy the right buffer?
The gravity-fed M10 does not like extracting unfired shells, or being cycled upside down or vertically. :v: Works fine when cycled level and extracting empty shells, so it should be fine on the range, but this is possibly the most finicky gun I've ever dealt with. It's no wonder these were not real popular.

Hmm, I don't have a good answer. If you oil your gun properly, perhaps the oil in the action provided a protective barrier, while the oil in the barrel got blasted out? Either way I'm guessing dirty ammo + humidity but you're right, that's weird that it would only be on part of the gun.
MEET AK15 (code name) - Straight from Kalashnikov ( Концерн Калашников ), this is formerly known as Saiga MK107. The whole top cover opens with hinge. It has left side charging handle and fire control on both sides. Chambered in .223 and ready for US market...oh wait, scrap that last sentence...

I don't have any 22 but I put all of my 308 into a pile to see where I was at for supply.

Generally, it's hit or miss, they could be confiscated by customs, or they won't be.
I've narrowed the M10's cycling issues down to hi-brass/low-brass shells. It always seems to jam on the low brass shells, but feeds the high brass shells fine. Is there a reason for this?
e: Looks like Winchester Super X is just shit, I'm seeing a lot of people having trouble using it in their pump shotguns. I recall this ammo sticking in my SxS as well.
So had an awesome day today, full of awesome gun related shit. My friend wanted to build a cheap target stand for his father (who is aging and just wants a target to plink on outside his house without having to haul out targets), so I drew up some blueprints and we tossed some ideas around and went to home depot and a fabrication shop to get the supplies. Just used some galvanized plumbing pipe for the frame and a 3/4' thick piece of square steel with a whole cut out of the top for the target. Spray painted black with some rustoleum in hopes it won't rust too bad. When we went to the fabrication shop, made small talk with the owner about what we were doing with the steel, and the topic of 7.62x51 came up, and he talked about him training in basic on M-14's. He was of the classic old-man opinion that the M-14 was a superior rifle. The way he sneered when he said "I trained on the M-14 in basic, a hell of a lot better rifle than the 'M-16'..." was like it was out of a movie.

Took like 3 hours total to gather parts, eat breakfast, and assemble. Ghetto as hell but it worked great. When shooting it with my SVT-40 though (steel core), had a piece of debris fly back at me and knock me right in the eye. I'm not blind and my cornea isn't shattered so I assume that it was probably a piece of dirt or something. Learnt the hardway that you need to chain the steel back and build a burm in front of it to catch shrapnel. the SVT made some awesome looking gouges in it though.

As a thank you, my friends dad gave me a USMC Sniper manual, AKM receiver blank, AKM bolt carrier, AKM trigger group, and a machine-gun catalog from the 90's. He also let me finger his Daewoo some, as well as his BM59 that was built off an M1 parts kit. All around awesome guy. I can post some pictures of the catalog and manual if you guys want.
This is why we wear eyepro....
Other than that, sounds awesome.
Ordered a CS 75 BD (I was too slow to act on the police version and won't let another deal pass me by). Ordered two mags as well, it's unclear if the gun itself comes with one. Here's to hoping it'll travel the 112 miles within 2 weeks.
