How is it a bad name? It fits in with one of the things that the core gameplay will focus on.

Uhhh since when?
Well, seeing as this is is pretty much gonna be PR but on Unreal 4, I'm interested but not gonna be looking into for a while, because what made PR so great for me was the vast environments on mass scale and the variation in combat, not to mention the gamemodes.
Any corner can be lethal, any building is an obstacle that can be tackled.
But seeing this trailer just seems lackluster, mud huts and flat terrain.
Hopefully it will grow and eventually we'll be seeing mass scale combined operations, which PR really shined at.

Obviously ArmA 2/3 can bring the same package, but it's less 'join and play' and more 'get a group to play with'

No. It always sounds weird when devs try to preview a game by making the guys playing sound like they're in a real army squad or something.

Have you ever played Project Reality? Typically when you spot someone you need to describe where they are based on the degrees on your compass.
What does a real army squad sound like compared to a game army squad anyways? Does the real army have a different way of saying "Contact to the west"?
they canceled it to make this

This is something that so nearly makes me rage, seriously put some effort into reading a little before jumping to conclusions. The similarities end with people shooting one another in a middle-eastern environment, with the game likely not to be constrained to said environment for long.
So what's the difference between this and say, Arma? Not to be ignorant or trying to make a joke, serious question.
This would be sort of half-way between BF4 and ArmA in terms of realism. In ArmA you're pretty much free to do anything the mission maker can make, whether that's coop, altis life, wasteland or whatever. This on the other hand will be mostly focused on PvP with a certain roster of gamemodes. That, and ArmA has so many different mods and addons that to have a consistent gameplay experience you'll pretty much have to play with a group or play the same missions. With PR and this by association, you can join any server and expect it to play virtually the same.

Imagine you are one of the devs at the GDC or gamescom and someone asks you for the game and you have no business cards left or flyers. Then you say it's called "Squad"
Well good luck ever finding it on google trying out "Squad", "Squad the game", "Squad game" or "Squad Arma" in the search.
You simply don't handle game names like that.
You always add something that makes an unique combination if you use commond words like "Payday The Heist", "Project Cars" or "Project Reality"
This is why they renamed "Biohazard" to "Resident Evil" in the international releae.

It's also the second result for "Squad"
People always compare PR to ArmA and Insurgency but they're a lot different I feel. Different enough to warrant a new game by a long shot.
I've always felt that ArmA was clunky as fuck (ArmA 3 only slightly improved it) and really annoying to play. The game mechanics are fairly different too I think, once you get to the meat of things. I just always found PR's more enjoyable than ArmA's, but to be fair, I've never gotten REALLY into ArmA, but that's another thing-- I feel it is a lot easier to get into PR than ArmA, and every ArmA server has a fuck ton of mods, etc. Plus I could actually run PR well.
Comparing PR to Insurgency is pretty fucking dumb. Like, they're totally different games. The weapons handle different, the people handle different, Insurgency has no vehicles of any sort and maps are way smaller and claustrophobic, like, there's way too many differences to even mention. The only similarities is that people both die real quick and they have guns. Insurgency was aimed at infantry only while Project Reality is aimed having vehicles on the land, sea, and air.
Don't get me wrong, I love all these games-- they're all great at different things, but they are by no means the same. The only similarities is that they are all realistic shooters really.
ArmA is fantastic for scale and sandboxyness among other things, Insurgency is great for fast, close-up infantry combat, and PR feels more in the middle. It isn't as fast and fluid as Insurgency, and the maps generally aren't quite as big as ArmA's, but it was a fantastic mix that I felt no other game got right.
I'm not sure to what degree Squad will try to remake Project Reality, for instance the weapon handling seems a good bit different from PR already.

The way I see it they're simply making another PR without the limitations of the Refractor 2 engine. I'm sure if they could've, PR would have had weapon sway instead of the shitty rng deviation system and all the other nice things that UE4 makes possible.

Heh, I actually grew a bit fond of the RNG system they had. It felt kinda dumb at first, but after playing ArmA, I kinda changed my mind about it, since the amount of movement just gave me a headache.

You're one of very, very few in that case. Not to say that deviation didn't serve its purpose, I had a lot more fun in .8 where deviation was ridiculously high compared to 1.0 and beyond where it's a lot tighter.

The game looks great so far, Project Reality seems quite popular so hopefully that helps with the Kickstarter. There's a big jump in those tier prices, though - from $30 to $70, with nothing in between.

Project Reality just has a dedicated community. I've seen people that have been playing on the same servers for a couple years.
It doesn't have a lot of people. I think Squad is a bit ambitious but it won't be able to out-do ArmA. Sad, because everything about PR was way better than ArmA.

That's just simply not true. PR is not like ArmA at all. They're both sort-of military simulators, but everything else about them is completely different.
I wanna see vehicle combat. I loved vehicle combat in earlier versions of PR for BF2. But later in it's life I literally only saw infantry combat.
I just really enjoy having huge battles with more than just infantry. I wanna see a NATO vs Russia or China thing going on.

Vehicle combat has been confirmed and they have shown off 1-2 vehicles, but i really want to see how in-depth it's going to be. I hope there's more to it than vehicles just having health like in BF2, it's been a while since i played Project Reality so i can't quite remember what they were like in that.

The vast majority of PR maps include all kinds of vehicles up to jets and MBTs. Since 1.0 there have been way too many with infantry combat falling by the wayside in a large number of maps.

Pretty much the same as vBF2 but tanks can be tracked and on rare occasions have their turrets disabled. Helicopters can lose power which usually results in a fatal crash.

The one thing i can remember was being able to walk around in the back of some of the Helicopters and i think even drive small vehicles into them, i hope they keep that.
While squad is cool and all, i wish they would have worked together on PR2. It's retarded to have two successors to one game.

Totally wrong game. You're likely thinking of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. Either that or B.R.E.E.D, a game I and probably like 3 other people on the planet have played.

90% certain PR2 is dead.
