A science fiction film with an interesting (non Earth) setting, alien megastructres are a plus? Preferably not Aliens, Star Treks, Space Odysseys or Star Wars.
Screamers.
A science fiction film with an interesting (non Earth) setting, alien megastructres are a plus? Preferably not Aliens, Star Treks, Space Odysseys or Star Wars. Edit: Dark City is a great film but I guess I'm looking more for something tonally similar to Sunshine, Moon, Event Horizon, Pitch Black, Dune, Pandorum, Solaris, Supernova, or Cargo where the science fiction setting is slightly more integral to the film. Sorry for the big list.
Silent Running is worth giving a shot. Also one third of The Fountain kind of falls under that category. It's weird, but I like it a lot.
I'm not sure how people around here feel about it, but I feel that Sons of Anarchy is one of the best shows around right now. It's essentially a show about a biker gang, and while there are sometimes short term problems, most of them are dealt with over multiple episodes. Anything similar to Trainspotting in terms of drug related plot-lines?
Fear and lothing in las vegas. The film is like a trip, a bit wacky. My pot head friends worship it but I hate it because I hate hard drugs.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
sucked ultra uninteresting
sucked ultra uninteresting
but...... FUCKING HD SUSHI!
I need a really bad movie, one that is so bad that it's actually good.
I need a really bad movie, one that is so bad that it's actually good.
Sci Fi originals, again. They are all awful. Try watching any bad movie with friends and it can automatically become good.
Probably should have seen that one coming. I heard the movie wasn't worth watching in comparison to the show.
The movie is a bit weak, but it is still worth watching if you're a Twilight Zone fan, or for seeing how they modernized it and given it their own style. That or Dan Aykroyd cameos.
I need a really bad movie, one that is so bad that it's actually good.
Life of David Gale
I need a really bad movie, one that is so bad that it's actually good.
Street Fighter: The Movie
A movie to watch with my gf. She likes: The hunger games, Avatar, Red riding hood, Snow white and the huntsman, Lord of the rings.
Brothers Grimm
Can someone recommend some good documentaries? Preferably not about politics or nature.
Eyes of the Mothman is good if you're interested in that kind of stuff. It talk about the Mothman stuff that happened in Pennsylvania. Dark Days is a really interesting one. It follows the lives of a group of people that live in a section of an abandoned underground railway. The People vs. George Lucas is another good one. It talks a lot about Star Wars and Lucas, and about the kind of "hateful fan" culture that's been caused by the prequels and Lucas' editing of the original trilogy.
Recommend some good docummentary movies or series, simmilar to bbc's life, human planet...through the wormhole and so on. I'm especially interested in documentaries about the computer and all that's related to the era of information, electricity and energy.

I really loved The Bank Job and Inside Man, is there any movies like these?
I really loved The Bank Job and Inside Man, is there anyway movies like these?
The Score. [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] haven't seen The Bank Job, but The Score is a good heist film.
sucked ultra uninteresting
I enjoyed Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
A science fiction film with an interesting (non Earth) setting, alien megastructres are a plus, something along the Lines of Outland is perfect? Preferably not Aliens, Star Treks, Space Odysseys or Star Wars.
The Score. [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] haven't seen The Bank Job, but The Score is a good heist film.
I am currently watching it and it has some hilarious techno-babbel "I got hacked, now I have to install a COMPLETELY new firewall!" "Can you explain that so I can understand something?"
Is it alright to ask about TV shows in this thread? I'll go ahead and do it anyway. Can anyone recommend something that can compete with The Wire, Breaking Bad or Oz in quality? It needs to have an overarching plot-line and not just a problem of the week sort of thing. I don't really mind the theme but something crime/mystery based would be nice.
Watch Treme (2010-2012, 3 seasons so far; 1h episodes) if you're fan of The Wire's realism and so on. Made by the same people [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] Boardwalk Empire is comparable as well, imo [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] and Sopranos

I would watch The Sopranos but Italian Mafia shit is one of my least favourite themes so I don't know if I would enjoy it. I'm about 1/3rd of the way through Twin Peaks at the moment. I'll probably give Treme another shot after that.
Give Treme a try again. I saw the first two episodes and thought it was absolutely the most boring shit I've ever seen. Then after a year I picked it up again and couldn't stop watching. it certainly grows on you [editline]31st January 2013[/editline] oh you said in your post you'll give it another shot. well yeah, do it :) Watch to at least the fourth of fifth episode, if you can bear with it. [editline]31st January 2013[/editline]
I watched some of the first episode of Treme but it didn't really interest me, same with Boardwalk Empire. Most of the time it's about the decline of the mafia organization but circulating around the sopranos' life, with conflicts regarding teenage angst, drugs, marriage problems, etc etc
Can someone reccomend me a movie like 12 monkeys? Or any good movies with bruce willis or brad pitt :v:
Can someone reccomend me a movie like 12 monkeys? Or any good movies with bruce willis or brad pitt :v:
Not necessarily what you asked for, but 12 Monkeys is an adaption of a French film called La Jetée.
