Anyone know any good documentaries on music genres / sub cultures, those are always neat.
A film called Dig! about the 2 bands The Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacre. One goes for commercial success but the other goes for the underground respectability and the 2 become almost against each other and jealous of what the other has. A real insight into a lot of the workings of 'scenes'. I thought it was excellent.
Anyone know any good documentaries on music genres / sub cultures, those are always neat.
Just finished Sound City about the famous studio, that was a really good watch.
I was just about to recommend that one too. For music documentaries: It Might Get Loud and Crossfire Hurricane.
Me and a couple of friends are having a movie night this saturday, I need some good shit-your-pants horror movies. (If these even exists.)
John Carpenter's The Thing The Evil Dead Event Horizon Definitely my favorites.
I need a good TV show to get me through the next week, something like Sherlock or Breaking Bad.
A movie where the main character is bad, or uses some not so ethic means to achieve something? And I mean not just bank robber kind of bad
A movie where the main character is bad, or uses some not so ethic means to achieve something? And I mean not just bank robber kind of bad
Taken, Scarface, Drive. Just from the top of my head at this point. Everyone of them are really good and memorable in my opinion.

Tim Robbins stars in Robert Altman's brilliant satire of Hollywood. A must for film fans that pretty much fits your request. Altman was a great director.

Drive and Taken fall more on the "unethical means" thing but they're still great movies anyway [editline]31st March 2013[/editline]
'The Player'.
A movie where the main character is bad, or uses some not so ethic means to achieve something? And I mean not just bank robber kind of bad
There Will Be Blood.
I need a good TV show to get me through the next week, something like Sherlock or Breaking Bad.
Firefly Spaced
A movie where the main character is bad, or uses some not so ethic means to achieve something? And I mean not just bank robber kind of bad
Pulp Fiction has an entire assortment of bad folks.
I'm searching for nostalgic, melancholic fantasy movies like Return to Oz or Pan's Labyrinth. Preferably no happy end and and a good load of creepy stuff.
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is a close fit.
Good comedy like The Hangover or The heist [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Go
Good comedy like The Hangover or The heist [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Go
Dude, Where's My Car?
Any particularly good movies on the First World War?
Any particularly good movies on the First World War?
All Quiet on the Western Front. IMO, one of the best war movies out there.
Any particularly good movies on the First World War?
Paths of Glory, Lawrence of Arabia. haven't seen All Quiet on the Western Front yet...
Good comedy like The Hangover or The heist [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Go
I don't know about the heist but comedies like the hangover I can think of are Superbad, Hall Pass and Ted
Paths of Glory, Lawrence of Arabia. haven't seen All Quiet on the Western Front yet...
Beat me to it, I was going to dump Paths of Glory as its a great watch. Galipoli is one of Mel Gibson early films and don't let that put you off, I thinks its a fantastic film and so distressing. The life wasted in WW1 when war became mechanised was horrific.
why do people hate mel gibson :( he's a terrific actor imo.
He's an asshole tho
He's an asshole tho
But does that discredit him as an actor or as a director? [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] The answer is no.
He asked why do people hate him I never said he's not a good actor
so roman polanski gets off for rape but mel gibson goes on a drunk binge and he's a bad guy?
Any particularly good movies on the First World War?
Joyeux Noel (2005) About the christmas truce. The movie has armies from 3 different language groups and it tells a story of soldiers getting to know eachother and deciding against the will of the officers to not kill eachother. Deathwatch (2002) God damn rats... oh shit that was disturbing. We need more ww1 horror, it's a good setting. All Quiet on the Western Front (1970s) Classic story of a man driven by national and societal pressure to fight a pointless war. A story of a truly lost generation.
Dear god you guys sure are into this defending Mel Gibson thing I was just stating my opinion on the guy, he's done worse than that as I've heard And what does Polanski have to do with this
Why do people even care about the social lives of celebrities and actors? I only care about their acting ability. I don't care if Mel Gibson is anti-semitic and a terrible husband or if Tom Cruise is a crazy Scientologist. Mel Gibson is a great actor. He isn't amazing, playing similar roles all the time and never developing much character beyond angry badass but that's what he's good at.
It's just that after I hear about it, it's the first thing I think when I see him. Sure, I can judge him as an actor if I watch one of his movies, but if I'm just surfing channels and I see a trailer with him in it it's just a natural reaction that I'm gonna think "oh, it's THAT guy"
