I'm looking for wall street and/or political dramas/thrillers. I've seen Wall Street and its sequel, along with Margin Call, Casino Jack, all of House of Cards. (You may notice I like Kevin Spacey a lot). Suggestions?
While it isn't coming out until the 25th, there's The Wolf of Wall Street, which is supposed to be like Goodfellas and Wall Street combined. I don't know if that sounds appealing to you, but there it is. For Political dramas, try The Ides of March.

Thanks, that list will keep me happy for quite a few weeks
Alright, so I've watched the first two Alien movies. Are the next two even worth it?
Alright, so I've watched the first two Alien movies. Are the next two even worth it?
No. I've seen both cuts of Alien 3 and the whatever bluray one of Ressurection and they're not comparable.
Alright, so I've watched the first two Alien movies. Are the next two even worth it?
nah, A3 was okay but I'd skip ahead for Prometheus.
nah, A3 was okay but I'd skip ahead for Prometheus.
Nah, the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 was still pretty good. I'd say watch that one and then go for Prometheus. Alien: Resurrection should be avoided at all cost.
Did someone mention prometheus? Awaits carniage. The nice thing about the Alien films is they are all quite different kinds of films. You got the classic sci-fi horror of Alien, the guns and action of Camerons Aliens and the moody A3. A4 resurection, I suppose we could pretend that didn't happen. Prometheus was good, did I get away with that?
Prometheus was good, did I get away with that?
I saw it again last week, couldn't give a toss about the supposed "plot-holes", they really didn't bother me whatever they were. I'm not saying it's a truly great film, but I have a good admiration for it and it's so recognisably Ridley Scott after knowing how he approached his original. What seems to bother folk is how ambiguous it is, but if they closed the film off which made it impossible to continue and expand, I would understand. But it couldn't be more open-ended at all. They could take the series off into a whole new direction and potentially have almost nothing to do with Alien in the end.

Some people don't like Prometheus and thats alright too, I just happened to like it because all that origin of man crap got my mind spinning
What makes the first two aliens so amazing?
some heart racing action movies in the vain of Die Hard and Speed?
What makes the first two aliens so amazing?
Atmosphere and damn good directing I'd say.
some heart racing action movies in the vain of Die Hard and Speed?
Crank and Crank II are pretty literal in heart racing action.
What makes the first two aliens so amazing?
Have you not watched them? or do you not get it?
haven't watched them
haven't watched them
Yeah, no point taking down people's opinions tbh, they're just incredibly significant to the genre, esp the first.. Aliens is definitely easier to digest if I was young and first getting into the films but the first Alien film really got me going. I rarely watch Aliens actually, but if I saw that as a kid it'd be addictive as heck. Ridley likes his organic film methods and takes his time to immerse you and unfold the setting, where as James Cameron is a more hands on action, get there quick, "look at me" kind of dude. [editline]15th December 2013[/editline] you must've seen Terminator so I dunno why I'm telling you that. :v:
yes I have seen every terminator
All the Presidents men Tinker Tailor Syriana The constant gardener (top film) Three days of the condor Salvador Year of living dangerously Bader Meinhof complex Lives of others Margin call was fantastic btw.
After some checking, most of these films aren't on Netflix :(
While Aliens is just a fun action movie with a lot of great dialogue and cool effects, it doesn't even compare to Alien imo. Alien is a slow-moving, expertly crafted horror film in space. Every aspect of it is perfect. The writing is perfect, the set designs are OUTSTANDING and inspirational even today, the direction is superb, the characters are unforgettable, the special effects look more organic and alive than most effects do today and the scares are actually scary. I'll never forget watching it for the first time during that vent scene. Still one of the few horror scenes that shakes me to the core, and it all ends on a fucking jump scare, but it's the best jump scare I've ever seen, because it gets scarier on rewatches. The whole concept is that they've lost the alien on the ship somewhere and they pick up a reading that it's in the vents. It could easily sneak up on the crew and kill them one by one. One of the crew members volunteers to go through the vents to look for it, and as he searches, the tension just builds and builds. There's little to no music the whole time, so you get really immersed. But before the alien is finally shown, if you watch closely, the crew member has a small source of light on him so he can see. Just seconds before the alien kills him, look closely in the background. You can see it waiting for him to turn around. Excellent stuff. I've already given away too much, but that's just ONE reason to watch it if you haven't. It's seriously a flawless movie.
While I agree with your points of Alien being a great movie, I can't say I think that Aliens as just a 'fun action movie', making it vastly inferior to Alien. Its approach is different but it is in no way, somewhat more seriously flawed or lacking to Ridley's approach for Alien. [editline]16th December 2013[/editline] The only 'Alien' character that remains unforgettable to me is Ash.
While a lot of the writing in Prometheus was dumb and not thought out, I think a lot of it can be explained through a sequel, which I'd totally be okay with.
Can anyone recommend a good fantasy movie, like usual tolkien inspired stuff.
Conan the Barbarian Excalibur Willow LadyHawke Now, I've not seen the latter two, but they're out there.
Thanks, all this hobbit hype made we want to watch some decent fantasy movies. Unfortunately there aren't many good ones.
