I'm really loving movies that don't treat any character as special, death scenes have zero dramatization, etc. So far Immortals really lived up to that and Django. I wonder if there are other good examples.
So out of these movies which one would you recommend the most? cloud atlas django hobbit wreck-it ralph
I would personally go for Django, not only does it have an awesome cast, brilliant acting, direction by QT and the kind of gripping and emotional writing i haven't seen since District 9. Hobbit, sure its good, but Django just has something that i didn't see in The Hobbit. Not saying The Hobbit hasn't got those things, it has them for definite, but The Hobbit has been watched by half of the worlds population by this point and you know most of the story if you just watch the LotR films. TL:DR Django is my choice.

I haven't seen Wreck-it Ralph, so I dunno where to place it. [editline]20th January 2013[/editline] Cloud Atlas is worth your money.

I need a good war movie that has been released on Blu-Ray, with 5.1 to 7.1 audio. I need to see how awesome it would sound in my family's theatre room.
I need a good war movie that has been released on Blu-Ray, with 5.1 to 7.1 audio. I need to see how awesome it would sound in my family's theatre room.
apocalypse now do it, the remastered audio is.. amazing.

Also you could go with Black Hawk Down. I'm pretty sure that would sound awesome (it does have 5.1) on a good setup.

Anyone know any good films about the protagonist going insane? Not like American Psycho insane, or like Fight Club where it's a twist, like a film where the central character progressively loses it and has insights into how messed up his mind is getting

[editline]20th January 2013[/editline] A Beautiful Mind too
Can anyone recommend me movies like Office Space or Accepted? I love dialog humor.
@hammerbrute Aviator [editline]20th January 2013[/editline] The Tenant with Roman Polanski is really good.

Except it's not just one person going insane. You should watch it!
Recently I've been watching a few movies with kid protagonists. It's just something enterely different, their whole characters are way more interesting than those of adults. Like Pan's Labyrinth, loved that one. So, any cool movies with kid protagonists/movies which are similiar to Pan's Laybrinth?
I just saw Super 8 and it was p. good in my opinion
Can anyone recommend me movies like Office Space or Accepted? I love dialog humor.
Pretty much anything by Monty Python is dialogue based humor. [editline]20th January 2013[/editline] For something more in the vein of Office Space, Extract might suit you.
Movies like Donnie Darko(Not Butterfly or S Darko) Cheers
Anyone have any horror movie suggestions for movies that actually scared them? It's been years since I've been truly scared by a horror movie.
Twilight. It's got spooky vampires.
Anyone have any horror movie suggestions for movies that actually scared them? It's been years since I've been truly scared by a horror movie.
Not big into horror because I'm always aware I'm just watching a film but the original Ring film creeped me right out.
insidious
lol 2mainstream to be scary?
lol 2mainstream to be scary?
Insidious seems like to me, yet another horror that relys on jump scares instead of a good atmosphere. And to me, atmosphere is one of the key elements to making a horror film truly scary. [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] Also, how is Drive? I've seen reviews from both sides of the spectrum, either hating or loving it. The trailer seems fairly misleading from what I have read about it.
I actually liked Insidious more than I should have. I still wouldn't say that it scared me, though. It just had a nice atmosphere at times, I guess. It was decent, but nothing too special. Part of my opinion is due to the fact that I saw it with a bunch of really fun people, but watching it alone is kind of lame.
That's true with most movies. If I get my friends together we actively search for the shittiest sci-fi originals and other crap like that just to see how entertaining we can make it. We actually did that with Insidious too, because there is so much stupid shit to make fun of in it.
movies that are like oldboy in an atmospheric sense
I actually liked Insidious more than I should have. I still wouldn't say that it scared me, though. It just had a nice atmosphere at times, I guess. That had a really cool atmosphere. The ending cheapened the whole movie though.
Also, how is Drive? I've seen reviews from both sides of the spectrum, either hating or loving it. The trailer seems fairly misleading from what I have read about it.
I'd say it was good. It's a bit slow-moving and very atmospheric, feels like a '70s or '80s movie with the lighting, pacing, and synth soundtrack. There are punches of driving and violence that are quick, brutal and effective. The cast does well, especially Gosling, Cranston, and Perlman. If you've got ten minutes or so, give a watch to the Half in the Bag review of it. It's largely spoiler-free and explains a lot better than I do. The trailer is very badly made. The heist that is played up as the focus of the movie doesn't happen until around 3/4 of the way through the film and is supposed to be a plot twist. There are really only two chase scenes - very intense, but not Fast-and-the-Furious-styled gear-grinding skid-fests.
Also, how is Drive? I've seen reviews from both sides of the spectrum, either hating or loving it. The trailer seems fairly misleading from what I have read about it.
Drive is my favorite movie I have seen. The trailer is quite misleading, but for me that just enhanced my experience. I went in expecting The Fast and the Furious and my mind was blown. I think it is best to go in blind, but I can't honestly expect you to just go see a movie because I say so. If you are going to see it, read no further. No spoilers in this post or anything, it's just my opinion that the less you know the better. If you still need convincing, read on. The violence in the movie is sparse but brutal and effective. Same with dialogue. The soundtrack builds an atmosphere like very few I have ever heard. The acting is top notch without being overly hammy. Overall, it's a very believable movie. I recommend it. Unless you want another Fast and Furious movie. [editline]21st January 2013[/editline]
The trailer is very badly made.
While I'll agree that the trailer is misleading as hell, it did not in any way detract from my experience with the movie.
I'm not sure how to do describe the movie I remember seeing But it was a .. I think it was a hitman, I'm not sure, but there is a scene where he is being mugged, I think? He pulls out his gun and rapid fires them down in an alleyway.. I think In the end he ends up dying on a subway train I remember him saying during the movie; "Someone died on a subway train, and he sat there for(I forget the exact number) of days/weeks before anyone noticed" help?
