• Knife holding up or down?

I'd suppose it would depend on the situation and how comfortable you are with your knife. Really I wouldn't advise knife fighting at all if you don't know what you're doing. Interesting story, though... I talked to a veteran of Okinawa at a gun show once. I had gone to his table to purchase a Ka-Bar, of which he had quite a few. As I was paying him, he said if they got into a melee, they'd take their Ka-Bars and place the blade up against their elbows, edge facing outward of course, and elbow their attackers in the upper chest / face area. Nasty shit, especially with that particular knife.

Although you can put them down really fast with it. Elbow to the face, extend knife outwards and retract arm, it's a pretty nasty debilitating gash.
Holding up is for defense as you have more control, can stab and catch fists/arms thrown at you. Down is for assault.
Best knife to have is a Stiletto, just sayin'
yeah, but what he posted was some weird swiveling knife that you squeeze to keep it in place
Holding up is for defense as you have more control, can stab and catch fists/arms thrown at you. Down is for assault.
Problem is, down usually trumps up :( Unless you have three foot arms/blade boots.
Its easier to block a blow from above than below. So stab the intestines.
yeah, but what he posted was some weird swiveling knife that you squeeze to keep it in place
Personally i would'nt trust a knife using such technology. Including switch knifes. But hey, if it's bad ass go to town right? [editline]04:39PM[/editline]
Its easier to block a blow from above than below.
Military tactics  [editline]12:36AM[/editline] Also, if you hold it point down, you can get a lot more power in the stab and a much quicker upwards slash. Theres also less chance of you losing your grip and just somewhat punching the guy, and in a life and death situation, thats a no-no.
However, if you trip and fall with the knife pointing up, you'll be dead.
I think you're looking at this the wrong way :v: If your life is in danger, who the fuck cares about his life? Gotta save your own buddy. And complex systems will only kill you faster.
If I'm in a life or death situation, yes I will go for lethal hits if I absolutely have to, but the average person doesn't know how to handle a knife correctly, but you have to remember that the person that you're attacking isn't a thing, he has a family, friends, girlfriend, wife, etc. If you kill that person you're bound to hurt everyone he's connected to too. I call an ambulance after the fight, tell them what they need to know about the injuries, possible internal injuries from kicks, etc. And it really isn't that complex once you get it down.
I talked to one martial arts expert and he told me that holding the knife upside down is the correct way to hold because this way it's harder to take away your knife and it's easier to take it out after stabing. Also this way it's easier to slit throat that way.
I don't go for possibly lethal hits, as I said earlier, I try to immobilize them, not neutralize them. And I don't count them, I don't take pride in my skill, I resent that I have to use it on someone, but sadly I have to sometimes. I only use weapons when the other person is though, since there's no need for excessive force if the person doesn't have a weapon.
Keep living that fantasy out on a internet forum kid, I'm sure the effort is worth it for the feeling of being a badass you get.
yeah, but what he posted was some weird swiveling knife that you squeeze to keep it in place
Actually it locks in place after it swivels around, you have to squeeze down on the thing at the end of it to open it, and that flips inside and locks so it's impossible for it to move while in its open state. Yes, yes, I'm quite sure he's a reluctant warrior and is on a journey to find his true calling, meeting friends and foes along the way, and vanquishing evil warlords who prey on innocent villagers.
Keep living that fantasy out on a internet forum kid, I'm sure the effort is worth it for the feeling of being a badass you get.
I am clearly not very cool. Can you teach me to be like you? :allears:
Yes, yes, I'm quite sure he's a reluctant warrior and is on a journey to find his true calling, meeting friends and foes along the way, and vanquishing evil warlords who prey on innocent villagers.
Yup you really are. And as I said, I don't do lethal hits with that small of a knife, and it's really sturdy.
... And I don't know what to do if you're fighting someone with a gun. Throw it and run? And pray they're a crap shot?
Knifes are better for close combat, if they have a pistol, and you have a combat knife, and they;re 1 or 2 feet away from you, you'll win. Bring knife to gun fight, kill them while they laugh.
I am clearly not very cool. [editline]05:54PM[/editline]
Yup you really are. "NO YOU ARE CUZ YOU SAID YOU ARE" And as I said, you're corny and full of shit.

Knives are dangerous.
No. What can I say, I have a complex that compels me to call bullshit where I see it.
You must be a really sad person, either not knowing how often this stuff happens in the non snobby areas where you're from, or you just don't want to realize it, staying within you own little bubble. [editline]05:58PM[/editline]
Wow resorting to gradeschool comebacks now are we? "NO YOU ARE CUZ YOU SAID YOU ARE" And as I said, you're corny and full of shit.
Actually that was supposed to be an automerge, not a reply to what I quoted. Try not to think the worst of what people say to you, not to believe everything is bullshit since it hasn't happened to you yet, and I hope it will one day, if only to burst your weak bubble with your ideal world in it.
Knifes are better for close combat, if they have a pistol, and you have a combat knife, and they;re 1 or 2 feet away from you, you'll win. Most people survive stabbings if they seek immediate medical help. If you get a bullet in any of your CV systems, you're pretty much fucked.
And as I said, I don't do lethal hits with that small of a knife, and it's really sturdy.
exactly, because you dont do any hits with it. youre just trying to sound tough
Down works alot better than up in some situations like it you're rubnning away and want to slow your attacker down.
exactly, because you dont do any hits with it. youre just trying to sound tough
Please read what I said before, I use it to immobilize if I need to do so, if I want to do damage I'll just steal whatever weapon is used against me. A wound doesn't need to be deep to cause a lot of pain when that part of the body moves around.
Just throw it.
God i hate MW2, eveyone now thinks using throwing knifes in combat is possible :geno:
