I am friendly.
Just I am not very often.
You're always friendly. Being harsh and honest has nothing to do with wheter you are friendly or not.
If anything it is mean to tell people that what they made is good when you don't actually think so.
dgg, i was just wondering, have you ever been a mod before?
Harsh advice is the best advice in my opinon. Also, some drawings should be incoming tomorrow.

Nope. Unless internal buddy forum counts.

Frank advice is the best.
Harsh is second best. The problem with harsh advice is that most "normal people" doesn't really get it before a long time or has to re-read it 2-7 times before the actually see the advice part in it because they get hung up in the harsh negative parts of it.

I agree with you slightly. However, I'd say clear advice is the best advice, as long as the person gets the criticism, it shouldn't really matter how you say it.
Nope. Unless internal buddy forum counts.
That's quite surprising to me.

How so?

i can vouch for this

Apart from the join date and post count, you just seem reserved enough to be a moderator.

Reserved? Me? How/what/why?
Tbh i prefer advice that's like, not rude, but not nice either
i like the neutral way of explaining things, pointing out the good and the bad, saying what can be added and taken away, but not pampering people into a sense that they did excellent
Reserved? Me? How/what/why?
haha, maybe reserved is the wrong word to use; but you just seem to give off a moderator vibe.

I thought me and Rusty were best of buds, guess not :(
I can give harsh criticism just as much but it takes so much time to do. I could slam everyone on this forum and they could slam me too.
Kind of branching off here, is Pling's name pronounced 'Pee-Ling' or 'Pling'?
Personally, I like the harsh criticism because it scares you into shaping up faster. sitting there and saying
"Oh this is good, but..." and "wow you're really talented maybe you can improve by..." is nice, but too passive, and it doesn't sink in as well that you SHOULD improve so much as "it's good, this will make you better if you feel the need"
and clear neutral stuff is stale and feels more harsh than it really is, I think it's because it feels nonchalant and "I couldn't care less, do this better" half the time.
Also, DGG would be good mod material, as would several other art section regulars. Should the need arise for new mods, I have my list. On that note, don't turn this into an "i wanna be a mod" discussion.
i wanna be a mod
seconding that, in class everyone hated me and loved me at the same time
I was the only person brave enough to say how shit a drawing was regardless of how pretty it may look. People would come to me for criticisms out of class too. People would call my phone and ask me to come upstairs (I live in a dorm) and critique their work.

I also need a new avatar, maybe I'll bust out my tablet later.

moar mod than u.
But yeah I get what you all are saying about needing the harsh criticism, but I think it needs to be used with discretion. For example: if you tell someone that they are doing everything wrong the first time they pick up a camera/pencil/guitar, they aren't exactly going to feel good about the experience, much less think to themselves about how they can improve. It can be harsh but it needs to be tactful, without being passive. Beating on someone's self-perception will confuse them, coddling it will cloud them with the ego.
I do agree 100% with not being afraid to tell someone their work is shit, but at the same time you need to be careful about how you say it. And I don't mean passive agressive. I'll give an example.
Bad: "Your work is shit."
Passable: "You're work is shit mate, it's filter raped."
Contructive: "Honestly, your work is rather dull, the overuse of filters kills it for me because it cheapens the look and is overall just lazy. There's no talent in filter rape. Work on some real stuff."
Vagina: "I love your picture but I think it needs to be less processed. It's great though, it really is. :downs:"
(sorry for jumping in like that)
I think I mentioned before, but one of my friends from college does nothing but take ipod camera shots with the hipstermatic app and posts them to facebook constantly. Every comment is "OMG SO GOOD" "WOW I WISH I WAS ARTISTIC LIKE U!!!!" "DUDE THATS SICK", and then he PMs me, because he knows I'm "good at art and stuff" to ask what I think about it. I don't have the heart to say stop spamming the crap (literally, there's several pictures of his toilet) and to learn X and Y and Z since he's coming to me for just more ego-boosting about his pictures.
:sigh:
Give me his contact information

Then start criticizing his work, going from "it's good, but..." to straight up "this is terrible, you need to...", working from passive to aggressive over time. It'll either get him to stop or to improve.

Tell him.
Just be friendly and tell him what he should improve on.
Either he will be arrogant and just stop asking you (luck you)
or he will say "hey, thanks! I'll try that out" or something similar to that and maybe improve (lucky you).
Either way you won't lose.
Or just wait when he goes to sleep and put your balls in his mouth.
Yeah, teabag him.
Yes.
And remember to post pictures.
Do it.
On another note, am I more a lurker than a regular in this part of FP?
lurker
Lurker in CC perhaps, your post status (and just in one year) says otherwise though.
I shitpost a fair amount in PW (As everyone does there :v:) and lurk all the other art forums.
I would say you are a lurker.
People I can name off the top of my head who are regulars:
ChestyMcGee
Dgg
K00lwhip (sorta)
