DA should have a separate board for gradeschoolers and people who try to be serious We could embark a such a shitstorm for class jumpers it'd not be funny anymore
There should be an 'encouraging deviations' for those who are trying. I don't want to see the 'I tried' work when I want to find things pleasing to my eyes.
Worst thing about DA is when you post critiques and then they're like "hey hey thanks for the comment [because I crave attention and statistics] but I don't think I asked for critiques on this piece!" Yeah well tough luck you need it.
"I don't think I asked for critiques on this piece!" Is the biggest bullshit I'll ever hear on any art piece. If he/she thinks that the art piece is perfect, then he/she is better off dead because in the future he/she can only do as good or worse. Why stay alive and ruin the reputation in the future?
"But I'm juuust making it for fuuuun" Well okay good for you but you're a massive hypocrite for posting on DA in the first place.
Guys I think I'm becoming a bit too interested in minimalist art. The other day I drew a straight line on a piece of paper, stood back and said "yeah, that looks good" I'm serious. It's not even like I think about the meaning behind it, I just genuinely think it looks cool.
DeviantART's daily deviation is making my eyes bleed...
Yer, only complete douches get daily deviations.
As dumb as it sounds, deviantART's problem is that it's too mainstream. Think about it. Where is the first place someone will look to share the random anime picture they drew of themselves? Where does the angsty 13 year old girl go to show off her scribbles of 'hawt em0 guyz'? Where do people who aren't artists go to feel like artists? That's right chaps, deviantART.
Same reason rednecks only drive American cars. It's cultural + marketing.
holy fuck what an awful generalization
You only use one type of pencil?
Nah, I just liked to doodle ideas etc with it. Now it's gone! :(
holy fuck what an awful generalization
That was exactly my point.
"But I'm juuust making it for fuuuun" Well okay good for you but you're a massive hypocrite for posting on DA in the first place.
I am just using it as a gallery space. I can care less about the people there lol...
That was exactly my point.
ah ok
snip [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] Hahaha oh wow did they get a 12 year old to do the concept work for Bioshock? [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/37/Bigdaddy-concepts.jpg[/img_thumb]
whats wrong with it? it looks good to me [editline]17th January 2011[/editline] sometimes you guys just see what you want to see
There's nothing wrong with it. Weird? Yep. Then again what about Bioshock isn't weird?
oh no the posing is stiff save the children
theyre just some character doodles. not all concept art has to be a completed masterpiece with a highly detailed landscape etc etc its a rough sketch considering bioshock had some of the best in-game art, i'd say they choose good artists and whatever helped create the final product i have no complaint with
I broke out my tablet after a year of inactivity and boy howdy do I suck balls. Not really degrading from much though.
Wow guys, even the most basic anatomy is flawed in that Bioshock concept work. Those things wouldn't even be able to stand up. Even if each one of those drawings was knocked up in 15 minutes, you'd think they'd have someone working on the concept who could knock up some decent proportions in 15 minutes.

The flaw with that is that it creates the wrong mood and atmosphere. concept art is sposed to set guidelines for art direction and atmosphere and schit, and I don't remember bioshock being like a bad acid trip. Otterwise it's prcool art, but I don't like it for it's simplicity.
What we name the next general creative shit thread and who makes it? I vote for General Artwork That Don't Deserve A Thread - Extra Long Title Edition.

Where do people who aren't artists go to feel like artists? That's right chaps, deviantART.
this is a huge issue in art these days, it's because of the availability of digital tools. I tell people when I'm teaching them the basics of cameras that digital cameras are both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, you do not have to worry about film, mistakes, getting it right every time. BUT, that is also the downfall, is that it makes you overconfident. "Oh, I'll just rapid-fire and hope one comes out", "Oh, we can fix that up in photoshop" "Oh, we've got 2,000 pictures to go we don't have to worry about anything". On top of that is the deviant art syndrome, where putting out your work is indeed easier than ever before, but getting recognized is becoming more and more difficult as you're overshadowed by thousands of people who's mom told them they were 'good'. As a wise man once said, "and then I realized I was pissing in a sea of piss".
Yeah indeed. IT's just that you have to draw something that a certain group finds intresting to gain fame. My shitty TF2 recolour has more views than everything else combined. I just hate how popularity > skill. And to finish up with a majestic quote: As a wise old man once said "He who go to sleep with itchy butt wakes with smelly finger"
My highest fav'ed work is a stamp I made from FFX lol "'Oh, I see!" Says the blind man with an ax.
my highest faved items are my TF2 recolor at 450-ish (from the same project as 3v's), a naruto related thing made out of two cheap pieces of stock imagery I did as a gag for my ex at 200-ish, a five-year-old bad photomanip of Gir from invader zim digging through my electronics from five years ago at 150-ish, and another piece of the same TF2 repainting at 150-ish. Bleh.
Highest faved eh? Easily my vexel of Haruhi Suzumiya. 130 favs. Good times. At least I did things.
My fav'ed break down... When you're told to draw 300 big daddy variations, it's not about mood or atmosphere, it's about being creative. Mood and atmosphere comes next.
I like the wheelchair one best
