What's so "Black Swan" about it? That just looks like smudged black, like a drunk chick trying to do a smoky eye.
Hey is it odd that I was surprised that the music section of the Art and Shit like That has more posts and nearly as many threads as Creative?
I need someone that is good at making movies or has some knowledge about it's techinical side. I'm making a movie with friends and I want it to turn out acceptable.

NEvermind I just finished the script and found someone to help.
Oh shiiiiiiit drawspace is down. This does not bode well for me.
Oh shiiiiiiit drawspace is down. This does not bode well for me.
No worries, you can always find some great tutorials on deviantart. I'll link you some. [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] Sorry DA must be down as well I found nothing helpful....
I'm trying to get a grasp on anatomy so at the moment I am drawing Arnold Schwarzenegger. The great thing about that is that I can always go in front of the mirror if I am unsure about certain muscles etc.
Oh yeah? Well, whenever I'm trying to draw a thousand dollar bill I can just go into my wallet if I'm unsure about the thickness of a stack of them etc. Edited: god that was retarded.
Whenever I need to draw a horse cock I just drop my pants.
I'm listening through some old recordings of mine and wow, I should've used a metronome.
Did you guys always like art? What exactly first inspired you to draw? I was always made to draw by my dad, I guess he saw something in me and decided to nurture it eve if I was unwilling. I wasn't until I was 13, bored and in my cousins house that I actually started liking it: after seeing her artwork. That was when I joined Deviantart, and surprisingly- even though its a bit of a shithole in places now it's the place that nurtured my interest in art. I don't think I would be here drawing today if it weren't for that furry infested site. I never thought art could be interesting before then... old paintings didn't and still don't really capture my imagination as much as the digital art I lurk at on the internet.

That's the beauty of being involved in contemporary art. It's more reflective of the artist because it's coming from their 'existence' (im having a hard time wording this), rather than someone trying to replicate works of old. I went on a tangent a few pages back about 'fine arts', and that sums up how I feel about that - 'art' that's made to look like art. A middle aged man working a 9-5 in an office living in the suburbs trying to emulate old Italian paintings will not evoke any emotion. If that same man pursued something that related to his actual lifestyle (think Adult Swim bumps, etc), it will be worlds more 'artistic'. And I'm not talking about the quality of the art or that it even exists, but the vision that motivates it. Well I kinda lost my train of thought, so I don't really have a conclusion for this, and I know it sounded cheesy/angsty as shit, but that's really the only way to word something like that.
I wrote some huge essay about how art has been with me throughout my life but I just deleted it all because I didn't want to post a huge essay. But basically I've always enjoyed art, but now is when I'm really taking it upon myself to get better and learn and progress independently. I wasn't very good at it until not long ago, but that's more because I was a huge stoner throughout my 2 years of GCSEs. I did fuck all back in those glory days. Also does anyone here do any kind of graffiti?
I never liked to draw when I was little. Then all of a sudden I got interested in drawing in middle school. And that's it really, my interest for graphical design came when I made Gmod comics with Jasc Paint Shop Pro and learned (Thanks to Gogi) to use Photoshop CS2 to make them. Fiddeling around with Photoshop and eventually learning things on my own I just got an interest for all forms of media, but especially graphical design.

All too often I see boring, bland and mild paintings that are supposed to be masterpieces. That's why History of art or any element of that in university fineart courses turns me off immensely, I don't want to learn about other artists that they have chosen for the course for me to "discover", analyse and memorise their work when I could be making my own. be making my own. Eh... I need to plow round more university courses...
I don't even want to go to uni, but i've got nothing better to do :saddowns:
I'm wasting away in community college. I'm dying to get out to LA.
I don't even want to go to uni, but i've got nothing better to do :saddowns:
Pretty much sums up 90% of people who go to university. Only I used to draw a shit load when I was younger. Once I got to secondary school though I pretty much stopped. Started with Gmod in October 2008, started editing those with Photoshop in late Spring 2009, started digital painting some time last year but it was so sporadic and hit-and-miss I couldn't pinpoint where exactly. I've only really started drawing again in the past 6 or 7 months-ish. But then again, that in itself is very sporadic. I really need to sort out my work ethic.
But then again, that in itself is very sporadic. I really need to sort out my work ethic.
You have work ethics?

Look at it as a challenge, try to understand why so many people like it and how they compose the colours and use of the humans/animals and nature in the picture.

The idea of being able to take those dreams and turn them into something corporeal has always fascinated me. Just shitting you, I liked to doodle on the back of my math homework. [editline]24th January 2011[/editline]
You have work ethics?
I get this really bad twitch in my eye if I don't draw often enough, does that count? Yeah, sure, come out here. It's important that you're in a shitty overpriced one room apartment while you work over the internet for people out of state. And not only that, but if you're here, you have an even larger chance of working for someone who's going to shaft you and not pay up, and how can you call yourself an artist if that doesn't happen to you at least once a month? Come on down bro. [editline]24th January 2011[/editline]
I don't even want to go to uni, but i've got nothing better to do :saddowns:
Like anybody in this generation fucking does.
I didn't really give a toss about drawing. I just was that kid in the previous school - real unpopular and always bullied. When I switched schools it was pmuch the same. But something 3 years ago I did my first drawing. IN an estonian lesson my friend took it. I was like "oh fuck what yo gon do with me only notebook!" and she showed it to the whole class. Teatcher was impressed and so were most of the class. I was in the middle of the attention for a second. Then I started drawing porn for myself.

Since this shouldn't have been posted in the 'Creative work that doesn't deserve a thread' thread, and also since I want to post about this everywhere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmbW6WXLeW4 I can't wait for this movie, every single picture was hand-drawn and the art style is pretty cool.

It's been released. I saw it last month. AND IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME.
My dad tells me the same thing and I do go through those motions, but I still don't want to study the life of an artist and write countless essays about them and their paintings.
Yes you usually hate studying and writing about them when you do it, I'm confident you'll look back at it in a couple of years (or even months) though and think about how it helped you become an artist. ...Which really isn't that comforting :v: My collab-thread is doing great, half the time has gone (6 out of 12 weeks) and 13 tracks has already been done. 3 more and it's finished and a thread in GD will be posted. So uh, you think we could get a sticky (for a day or two) on that thread, daijitsu?
I'm sure all of you are in an engaging discussion right now, and I don't wish to intrude, but I feel like I have to ask something. I feel like the only thing that keeps me motivated to pick up my tablet and pen is to draw porn. I can't seem to get interested in drawing anything other than nude girls. I don't necessarily draw them having sex, just in the nude. Most of the time I don't finish my drawings, leaving them at the chest area after spending a good few minutes trying to get the breasts at the right angle and size. ANYWAY, most of that last part is not important, but I was wondering, is this normal?

You'll never be an artist and you should prepare yourself for a lifetime of disappointment and failed aspirations. Go find Ryu-gi, I'm sure you two will get along perfectly.
