I think he's supposedly really egotistical and arrogant or something. I dunno really.
Why do you hate him?
He's utterly disrespectful to the rest of the graffiti community (i.e. he's sprayed over some of the oldest graffiti in London. Look up King Robbo), He only does it for the money, Stencils require almost no effort, he makes generic anti-government statements and everyone treats him like the cleverest motherfucker in the world, he's 100% mainstream, from what I've heard he's a cocky obnoxious bastard in person and seems to think he's better than everyone else when in reality the only thing he's done that other graff artists haven't is sold out.
I don't wanna sound like a dick but... banksy does not deserve to be called a graffiti artist.
I hate the messages he puts in his work. It's like Muse. It's such vague, light-weight anti-establishment shit that only the "anarchist" retards on 4chan should enjoy.
Stencils take a lot of effort. Just cause you have only cut out some simple shit you found on the internets doesn't mean the whole medium is effortless and piss easy.

And muses songmeanings suck but music is good.

So... what's so hard about it then? What I'm trying to say is, other graff artists work for years on style and spraycan control, whereas stencils require none of that, you take as long as you want at home cutting out the stencil, then it takes like 20 seconds to spray it up once you're there.
It takes years to learn how to draw properly. Thinking with bridges, tenfold if you need to do multible-layered one.
So what it takes so little time? It's just a plus.
You can't just go around calling a whole genre inferior to other.
You can't rate art on how hard it was to make in my opinion. Objective criteria work so infrequently. I prefer to base my opinions on all artist works of all mediums first and foremost on the subjective emotional response I get and then worry about how it was made later.

How much time it take doesn't matter at all, what matters is the outcome. Good art is good art, be it a 2 minute stencil or a multiple hour painting.
Can't remember what thread it was, but this reminds me of that guy who said "if you can talk about it for longer than it took to make it then it is art". Lol what bullshit. So if it takes 6 or more hours to paint the perfect portrait, but the only thing you can about it is "it's a portrait"... then that's not art? Haha what.

I suppose that's true. But I admit that it's hard to see something relatively quick to do get a lot more appreciation than something you've worked hours on. And I think that's the way a lot of graff artists feel. It's quite an immature way of thinking but that's the way it is.
I dunno. Depends on the circumstances. Like, when they used digital colour correction for the first time in O Brother Where Art Thou it wouldn't make sense for cinematographers to be like "omg how unfair is that? He's not even spending as much time as us doing the post-processing. He's cheating by using a computer. Our way takes longer so it must be better".
As in value of art(in my opinion)

this stands on a higher place than some nametag that took hours to make with colours and shit.

Because it makes a simple question that you can apply to everything in the world and drag out long essays of jumble mumble about?
:what:
Sorry?
i can see both sides of this argument and neither of them are completely right or wrong so please STOP TEARING US APART
To something completely unrelated
I made the first payment to charity now with the money earned from the album, 300 SEK (which roughly equates to the $50 that the album has earned).
Edit : I also posted this in the collab thread but thought I'd post it here too because it wouldn't have been possible without you guys :) We've made some difference now in the world with our music, and I think everyone involved should feel pride, because I know I do.

No I understand what you mean, it makes it more impressive if hours of effort has went into a single piece of art than if someone made it in a short notice.

Why are you questioning a question?

Tearing us apart? I'm having fun.

Indeed. 'Tis but a healthy discussion.
Why are you questioning a question?
It's incredibly difficult to decypher what point you were trying to make with your question, hence our confusion.
I think it's the syntax.

Original question:
Because it makes a simple question that you can apply to everything in the world and drag out long essays of jumble mumble about?
Babelfish translated:
Is it because the question is so simple and can be applied to anything and cause endless discussions?
I love the feeling of getting over artist's block.
AS with making children it's the same with art:
The progress is what's enjoyable, end result will only annoy you.

I find holding it the correct way works best.
And I didn't find the smiley hilarious.

Same. All my intestines came flowing out of me.
I wish more people would contribute short stories, and that once they do they would actually take the time to review other peoples' submissions. You get folks who put in the effort to write something, but as soon as they're asked to read somebody else's work they're like, "Woah, hey! Let's not be hasty!"
