i actually really like Turisas even though i'm generally not fussed about the cheesy power-ish folk metal. Speaking of folk metal Moonsorrow (finnish) and Primordial (Irish) are deffo worth a look, they're definitely at the black metal end of the folk pantheon. Taake also gets pretty folky, actually.

whyyyyyyyyyy
And so it begins. Metallica's earlier stuff is thrash metal. Load/Reload is more hard rock. If you like thrash, then Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer are a must. Other bands of note are Sodom, Kreator, Overkill, Testament, Vio-Lence, Dark Angel, and Death Angel. I don't know about Folk-punk metal, but you'll probably be interested in folk metal. Check out Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, and Tyr.
Ok, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are all pretty damn awesome in my eyes. While folk can meld well with rock/punk, apparently it is shit when you through it in a blender with metal. Oh well.
again, Moonsorrow and Primordial

Listening to Cannibal Corpse's new album at the moment. So far, it's damn good. Probably the best material I've heard from them in fucking ages.
Fuck, can't believe I almost forgot about this thread. Recently I've gotten in to Trepalium and Turbid North. Both of which I enjoy thoroughly. This song is by far my favorite. Fuck I love every single second of it.

because the world obviously needs another band who sound like they're from 1987
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzPHSkAyl_E&feature=related
It sounds like their vocalist is Chris Farley.
because the world obviously needs another band who sound like they're from 1987
Yup they do [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] On a serious note, they sound pretty alright for a retro-thrash band considering that I don't generally like those from that variety and listened to only a few songs by them so far. The Kreator, early works of Slayer,Sodom and Sadus influence is notable.
tbh I honestly kinda like metal throwbacks. I can see why someone wouldn't like it because this sound has basically already been explored and it's nothing new or original, but it's kinda aimed at a specific audience.
because the world obviously needs another band who sound like they're from 1987
bwu bwu bwu if you don't sound like sunn o))) fuck you
bwu bwu bwu if you don't sound like sunn o))) fuck you
bwuh bwuh sunn 0))) are almost as bad as you enjoy your dad metal
because the world obviously needs another band who sound like they're from 1987
But bands that sound like they're from 1987 sound good. [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] Also :
