i actually really like Turisas even though i'm generally not fussed about the cheesy power-ish folk metal.
Speaking of folk metal Moonsorrow (finnish) and Primordial (Irish) are deffo worth a look, they're definitely at the black metal end of the folk pantheon. Taake also gets pretty folky, actually.

Ok, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer are all pretty damn awesome in my eyes. While folk can meld well with rock/punk, apparently it is shit when you through it in a blender with metal. Oh well.
Listening to Cannibal Corpse's new album at the moment. So far, it's damn good. Probably the best material I've heard from them in fucking ages.

On a serious note, they sound pretty alright for a retro-thrash band considering that I don't generally like those from that variety and listened to only a few songs by them so far. The Kreator,early works of Slayer,Sodom and Sadus influence is notable.
tbh I honestly kinda like metal throwbacks. I can see why someone wouldn't like it because this sound has basically already been explored and it's nothing new or original, but it's kinda aimed at a specific audience.

I can only assume that the target audience are people who find anything more extreme than thrash "not even music"
