because being groove is the only way of carrying energy
Wasn't talking about bands like Atheist or Death. If that's how technical as it gets, I'm ok with it. Seen atheist live and I hated it because the vocalist is a fucking idiot. However that sound of perseverance is something. I've got that album right here. And to say Death's technical skills are just show off for the sake of it, its just wrong. Death had lots of skills but Death was Death and had a consistent melody. Something people could relate with. Death wasn't something just for the technical junkies, it was a band for everyone in the spectre of metal and even beyound metal. That was amazing! What I was talking about was bands, in general, specially some amateur new ones, who just content themselves about being like band X and Y instead of doing something with a nice melody or rhythm, something original and theirs. Instead they just bomb us with boring technical shit that has already been done a million times before. There are lots of guys out there who thinks metal is just about guitar skills and cool technicool crap when it was never about that. That's pure showoff and nothing more.
Have you heard anything by Vektor?

So, I recently came across a band from my country, Sweden, called Beyond All Recognition. They apparantly are the "pioneers" of the Dubcore genre (even right here all credibility falls apart) and are a "beasts" in the Metalcore scene. I decide to take a listen, just for the fact that a friend of mine apparantly likes them and shared a link on facebook. And holy shit. I want to find where they live and break down their door. Now, I'm gonna link you guys two songs. Two songs from two different bands from two different countries. One is new, one is a veteran. Lets start with BAR: Keep the entire intro in mind. Everything. Remember it. Now listen to this. Emmure's Demons With Ryu: Just. Listen. I'm gonna go on a search for BAR in the mean while.
Have you heard anything by Vektor?
No, but who cares? This topic's nothing more than exhibitionism of own musical tastes. I come here and all I see is youtube videos and no discussion whatsoever. The title says Metal Megathread but all there is here is "My youtube video is the metalest of them all"
and like half the videos are incredibly boring thrash revival bands
That implying that your musical tastes are any better. It's not about that. This topic has reduced itself to guys posting for people who aren't even going to bother to listen. Guys who don't know shit about Metal. And when I mean shit, I mean something to actually talk about, like concerts, news, etc etc... And please when you do talk about concerts don't talk about you hair or your backpatch. Damn.
because if you want to find out about metal and know what's current you totally want a thread where a good portion of the music is re-hashing a style that peaked in the mid-late eighties? otherwise I pretty much agree that no-one seems in the slightest bit interested in actually discussing the music but hell, that goes for almost the entire section.
Nobody is talking about the 80s or whatever genre there is. I already said it wasn't about that. Why are you putting words in my mouth?
tbh i was just using this as an opportunity to bitch about retro thrash
I think you'll find it's called Re-Thrash [editline]7th August 2012[/editline] :v:
Since we've broken out of the vicious circle of youtube videos, who here follows the download/other blog SVN OKKLT for their underground metal needs? Not much of a scene here in Hull so I'm reduced to scouring blogs for a taster of what's going on in metal's dark and blasphemous underbelly
Never heard of that blog. What types are you into?

But difference between the 2 is Straps is for older unknown stuff while that site looks like it's for new stuff. Anyone know of a blog that has unknown heavy metal new stuff, that would be pretty awesome. Took a listen to that Din of Awakening demo on there though, it was pretty cool and dark, not for me though I guess. In other news I'm waiting for the new Pagan Altar album to come out which I feel is going to come out soon and waiting to see what Quartz are going to do now that they reformed.

There is also Pure Stench forums which is also good for Raw Black Metal as well as a bit more.
I am in love with this song. This is pretty much the first time I've listened to power metal and I don't know how I lived without it.

It should be an awesome thing - it can be an awesome thing, but oh so much of it is composed of bands recycling old At The Gates and Dark Tranquility riffs and putting a bagpipe interlude in every song. It's like rather than actually thinking about how to incorporate folk structures/sounds into the music they just play the same old melodeath/power metal then slap a few cheesy keyboards and token folk instruments on it. obviously there are exceptions - I'd call at least some of Primordial's stufff folk metal and there is not a single cringeworthy mandolin solo, and Taake incorporate loads of folky stuff, but by and large a lot of folk metal seems to be another novelty offshoot of standard melodeath/power metal.

Absu, fuck yeah! Those riffs! That intro!
