oh hey metal megathread, oh how i missed you...
You're missing out on a lot of fun.
I've seen them all before, and I'll probably catch Whitechapel again, but it's not really my type of music anymore. Whitechapel's new release was extremely disappointing, plus the crowd at these shows puts me off.
New song from Ghost!

Just bought Kalmahs discography, I've listened to most of their songs in bits and pieces, but took the plunge and bought em. Amazing.

not too bad IMO, the intro reminds me of Motörhead, much thanks to the guitar tone i guess
Teaser for Devourment's new album

I heard that earlier it sounds brutal as fuck seriously looking forward to it. should own. they've always been one of the best slam bands and it seems they're keeping that name.
[editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
it doesn't sound very slam though tbh, production isn't muddy enough+where are the trash can snares?? those riffs are also too elaborate-- are they going the way of THE ABOMINABLE PUTRIDITIES?? cos they sure failed to deliver slam jamz via good production, increased technical skill and severe lack of genuine pit riffment. devourment I don't think are quite there but they are dangerously close....
[editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
srs on that w abominable putridity, they proper went downhill last year.
what happened to the ignorant brutal slamz like THIS??

this isn't nearly as good

it starts off good but then comes in a techy riff that loves to appear throughout the album and just take away all slam potential. most of the riffs are still good but the wankery does not belong. the album feels like a compromise. while its still overall a slam album I think its their last and they'll probably move onto more tech death/bdm stuff which is a far worse type of metal :(
[editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
similar problems with disfiguring the goddess. sleeper is good but its mixed funny. too clean. circle of nine was overproduced (srs) the self titled was muddy and messy and fantastic.

Kraanium's new album is pretty sick as is Provocation's. ugly retard slamz ect ect.
Coprophiliac's new album is probably also worth checking out
you don't know how fucking happy i am to log onto fp to see slam being seriously discussed in the metal thread
Suffocation are releasing a new album February of next year, I'm excited as fuck. Seems like they're going for a bit more of a melodic sound, less slammy chugginess, still good shit though.

maybe we'll actually have a whole page dedicated to discussing metal that came out after 2000 that isn't re-thrash or sterile groove garbage

Not topical to this particular year but I found one of my fav brutal DM albums quite recently. It's called A Prelate's Attrition, it's the 2008 album of a band called Orchidectomy and it fucking slays. It sounds like it was recorded in a tar pit and i'm fairly sure that they've tuned down so low that only whales can hear them but jesus god the songwriting is actually spot on. Probs one of the nastiest-sounding DM bands even i've heard but the drumming especially is super-interesting.

A must get for me. Still sucks Frank won't be touring with them full time, I'm wondering who will be doing the vocals, since they said Bill from Decrepit Birth won't be doing it, he'd be a good fit since he's played with them before and doesn't have to worry about a job or bills since he's homeless.

1:27 to 1:37 sounds like boiling water. Awesome!
Why I haven't bothered to listen to Back Through Time yet is beyond me.
Death Throes of the Terrorsquid is fucking amazing
