if so i actually agree tbh and i bet the pickups they used were EMGs
that's why i like the first two Megadeth albums so much, even tho they can be called thrash metal they don't have the same overdistorted sound to them like for example the early Slayer, Exodus and Metallica albums do

Been to local thrash shows cause I'm mates with one of the bands (terrible slayer knockoff) and it's just 40 year old skinheads starting fights with some unwashed looking teens for not liking the exact list of bands they have on their smelly as fuck patch jacket.
there's shitloads guilty of it, Power, Speed, doom, modern melodicdeth to some extent even folk metal has a ton of same-y sounding bands.

thrash =/= crossover/thrashcore
all metal within a subgenre sounds the same, that's why it is a subgenre, a classification made using similar traits in sound between artists. how the fuck can you complain about that?
and the fact your friends are dumb nerds does not in any way reflect on the audience of a genre as a whole
