Is it the movie covering the first book, or all three of them?
One thing I didn't really like much was the mentor for district 12 in the beginning. His attitude just took a complete 180, one minute he's pretty much telling them to fuck off the next hes giving them advice.
Yeah, his characterization in the book was much better. I spent the whole series alternating between hating him and thinking he was the best, whereas in the movie he was basically just the always-helpful, slightly sarcastic advisor.

the first one.
are there gonna be any sequels?
[editline]26th March 2012[/editline]
if yes, I hope they fix the camera shake thing, and add better character development
Will be a sequel, same director, new writer (but not sole writer), Academy Award winner Simon Beaufoy. Dunno who will be doing the third, but it will happen.
Huh, apparently the book's author was and will continue to be one of the people working on the screenplays for the movies.
sounds good to me

During the black carpet premiere, many of the actors said that they're half way through filming Catching Fire.
Started the book yesterday, finished it today. I have to say I like both of them (the movie and book) equally, but there's some details from the book that the movie would have done well to include. Next, I just have to borrow Catching Fire from my friend before the sequel comes out.

Don't read the last book if you don't want to be disappointed
Don't read the last book if you don't want to be disappointed
Its really bad
Stop saying the last book is bad without any actual supporting evidence. It's fine. If you were reading the series for the action, and you were disappointed in the third book's twist in direction - that's fine. Just explain why.
Mockingjay is good but ends on a somber tone.
Just came back from seeing this. It was okay, but I feel that they didn't develop [sp]the Capitol, the history of North America and Panem and The Capitol, and the uprising enough, and they didn't develop the other tributes at all. Also, what the hell was that shit with creating fully functional hunting creatures out of thin air?[/sp] Everything just felt rushed and shoved in my face and then it was over.
I guess they explain it all in the book.
I didn't like the final fight scene. [sp]I couldn't tell the difference between Peeta and Kaito(sp?) with all the shaky camera parts. Also, the first fight scene at the Cornucopia was WAY too shaky.[/sp] I did feel a TON of tension at the start of the deathmatch though.
Yeah, that's another thing, I was squinting and trying to focus during those scenes and had to look away because I was getting disoriented. I was up a little closer than I normally sit in the theatre though so I don't know if being so close had anything to do with that.

The writer refused to let go the "arena" setting making [sp]The capitol full of magical traps (which don't make any sense.) which for some reason only target rebels.[/sp] . The characters went downhill ([sp]And many got killed off without a reason[/sp]).The ending was awful
But that's my thoughts about it, sorry for posting it as a fact

They start filming in September this year.
Was anybody else a little disappointed with the Dog Mutants (I refuse to call them mutts)?
I always thought of them sorta looking like Worgen from Warcraft, just tending towards quadrapedal running. Not quite [sp]huge pitbulls with human eyes[/sp].
Haha while reading the books I imagined them literally being little cute puppies with huge teeth. I think I blanked out for a few pages. I caught on at the end I was picturing completely the wrong thing. But the film was a pleasant surprise.
I'm re reading the book because I liked the movie but I remember details that it left out. Has anybody noticed how horrible the editing is? Comma splices everywhere and there are some serious spelling and grammatical fuckups. At one point it says:
"Cinna comes to me before dawn, gives me a simple shift to wear, and guides me to the roof." I believe it's supposed to say shirt. Another is on page 167 where it says "Morning brings distress. My heads throbs with every beat of my heart." Heads throbs? Come on, how did these not get caught in editing?

I am pretty sure there are no such mistakes in my copy

I bought the trilogy over march break because I wanted hardcover ones. They're still in it so I'm pretty sure they'd be in your copy too.
No one I know wants to watch this with me, so I guess I'll just wait for the Blu-ray.
you don't know anyone

I got the digital kindle one
I know everyone is going about the bad camera movements, but i had to watch it from like three feet away right at the front of the cinema, but all in all good movie, slighty annoyed my mates had no idea who Lenny Kravitz is.

I'm actually mad at myself for not realizing who he was. I saw him and I thought "god damn, I know this guy"

I thought that about most of the cast, turns out i knew about 4 people.
Love the fact that Jennifer Lawerence (Katniss) was inspired to act by Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) and now they are side by side!

Actually, I did notice a lot of missing commas and unnecessary commas, and quite a few grammatical errors, but I hadn't caught any spelling mistakes. I thought maybe I was crazy every time I read an error, seeing as there were so many :v:
I read both the book and saw the movie, and I find them way too cliched in the romantic department to have any significant meaning.
The movie was beautiful and the storytelling wasn't bad in the book, but the last half was "Oh I'll fall in love instead of pay attention to this life-or-death scenario" [sp]even if it is supposedly an act which is revealed not to be true by the third book[/sp]
I had the same problem with Twilight, taking a somewhat "realistic" approach to something and then driving it into the ground with over-emphasis on romance instead of a good story.
I really don't get what you're all going about with the romance thing, 70% of the movie was something else than romance, and while they don't make it so explicit in the movie, in the books Katniss is faking it all from beginning to end. IMO romance had a bigger role in the books than in the movie.

wow are you serious? you just spoiled the book for me
if you're gonna give a book spoiler, don't do it right after you talk about the movie

and you didn't even add spoiler tags in the first place
fucking really
this thread is about a movie based on the novel that's been out for a while, what the hell did you expect
thats like going to a harry potter order of the phoenix film thread and then criticizing others for spoiling the fact that Sirius died.
that's been out for a while
only because you read it a while ago, it doesn't mean everyone did
Yeah, I just read the first one recently because I've been hearing a lot of buzz about it because of the movie. I really really enjoyed the book, and when I saw the movie, I was pretty satisfied. The beginning felt rushed, but besides that I didn't have anything to complain about. The camerawork was shaky, but it allowed them to have people get hurt and get killed on-camera but avert the gore. I didn't really mind.
I really loved the character designs for Effie Trinket and Senneca Crane in the movie. Whoever did their costumes and make up really need a huge pat on the back.
In the movie there is a certain part that is in a cave in which I said "SIMBA"
all the bitches loved it
