and again, that sounds awesome, such a shame that they didn't include it in the movie.
Well, it would be kind of hard to convey. I mean, the guy from District 1 that they end up facing off with at the end got Arrow-proof body armor in the book, but it would be kind of hard to notice in the movie. They had to cut things out that would have required way too much attention to detail, since nobody would have caught it.
[sp]in the books they're mutts created by the capitol to fight rebels fighting in the mountains that surround the capitol (the capitol is located in a valley), but they mutated them in the arena to have the dead tributes' eyes. Although in the books they never narrate the game's director aproving the creatures, so it's implied they had planned it from the beginning, and had time to generate the mutts and put the eyes of the tributes in. Seeing as they have the technology to erase scars from the skin and completely heal deep burns, I see this as plausible in this universe[/sp]
I didn't say it wasn't plausable, I actually thought it was really cool, I was just explaining what happening in the books as opposed to what happened in the movies.

Half the damn posts in here are referencing the books. If you don't want stuff spoiled, don't read about it at all.

Why did I think to myself that the last part wasn't going to be so... bloody?
I don't know what's more hilarious, the Coke parody itself or the fact that the parody is more graphically violent than the entire 2 1/2 hour movie was.
I didn't mind it very much. The camera style was similar to Batman Begins, or POV films. It seems like it's a pretty even split between people who hated it and people who didn't mind it. We'll see what happens with the sequels, though.
Are you joking? The camera work in Batman Begins wasn't even remotely as shaky as The Hunger Games. The only part that I can think of that comes close is the end fight between Batman and Ras al Ghul but even then it wasn't as bad and a lot of the shots were limited due to it taking place on a train.
yeah batman begins is an example of shaky cam done right

I didn't say it was the same, I said it was similar.

it had some awful fight scenes though
Just finished Mockingjay. I really don't know how they will manage to make it into a good movie AND keep it PG-13, what with [sp]all the gory scenes.[/sp]

In the book, the final tribute that Peeta and Katniss have to fight literally has his arms and legs eaten off and his entrails torn from his body while he's still alive, and then hear and see it all.
They can change gory scenes.

It just doesn't have the same effect though. In the movie, it was, "Oh look, he's getting pretty... killed down there, let's kill him sooner." But in the book, Peeta [sp]is literally trying to outlast him, making it a lot more tense[/sp].

I get that it was more tense in the book, but they had like, twenty minutes left in the movie, and it was a two and a half hour movie. I can understand why they chopped that scene down, because otherwise it would have been Katniss and Peeta just sitting there while that guy is telling them to kill him.
I saw it today. What an incredibly mediocre film. Gotta love the shaky cam and Prim's unibrow.
Just saw this, I quite enjoyed it. Going to read the books soon. I have two questions: [sp]What happens if everyone still alive refuses to fight(could be the last 2 like we saw, or if all 24 decided to rebel)? And at the end, the main host or whatever locked himself in a room and looked down into a cup full of berries. What was the signiificance of that? I'm assuming the girl found the berries in a bush not knowing they were poisonous. I'm also assuming they made that rule change before un-doing it because they expected the beasts they spawned to kill one or both of them. Which is why they changed them back after, am I correct?[/sp]
And why do they all look like Dr. Seuss characters(besides the district people)?

[sp]It's unknown what would happen if none of the tributes decided not to fight. It's really unlikely to happen though, because Districts 1 and 2 specifically train and condition tributes for the games. The Gamemakers would probably force them to fight though, under the threat of killing them all, or punishing their families/loved ones. Seneca Crane (the head gamemaker) got locked in the room with a bowl of the poisoned berries as punishment for his failure to yield only one winner. Early in the film, President Snow stressed that there can only be one winner, otherwise people will think the Capitol is weak, and merciful. So, as a sort of irony, President Snow demanded that Seneca kill himself by eating the poison berries that almost killed the two winners.
The girl, Foxface, stole them from Peeta's pile of berries. Neither of them knew they were poison until Katniss said so, and by then it was too late. Fox Face had eaten them and was dead, counted as a kill for Peeta.
They un-did the rule because President Snow was really pissed at Seneca for allowing there to be two winners, so to curry favor with Snow, Seneca yanked the rule at the last minute and expected them to kill each other. It didn't work.[/sp]
The people in the Capitol just have really weird senses of fashion, and it's used as a device to highlight the differences between those from the Districts like Peeta and Katniss, and those from the Capitol, like Effie Trinket or Seneca Crane.
I hope that clears it up.

Nr 2: [sp]President Snow didn't like how he handled the game, especially not 2 tributes winning, so he made Seneca commit suicide in the movie. Think they just killed him in the book.[/sp]

Presumably if all 24 decided to rebel (this isn't a spoiler, just conjecture), the Capitol would kill them all.
[sp]He was locked in by President Snow, and forced to kill himself by eating the berries that Katniss and Peeta were going to eat (nightlock) to kill themselves. Katniss knew they were fatal, but the other girl didn't. They changed the rules because it would fuck themselves over, as the entire nation had fallen in love with the concept of the Starcrossed Lovers, and nobody wanted to watch them both die. Normally, one tribute is to survive, but Katniss and Peeta screwed that idea over completely.[/sp]

Here's some explanation for your questions:
1. The [sp]berries[/sp]: [sp]The Game Maker is the guy that got locked in the room at the end of the movie. In the scenes when he was talking to President Snow, the President stated that he "did not like underdogs" and that acts of rebellion (Katniss is a huge symbol of rebellion, as seen in the end with one of the districts going nuts) will not be tolerated. The Game Maker made the mistake of including the nightlock (berries) in the arena, because Peeta and Katniss, using the strategy of killing themselves at the same time and rendering no winner of the Games, would have given the Capitol horrible ratings and views from its citizens. Remember, after all, the Games are also to entertain the Capitol's population. If there was no winner and they both died, the citizens would go nuts and topple the government. That's why the President had him killed, but in the special way that the Game Maker must eat the berries to kill himself (such like Katniss and Peeta were going to do).[/sp]
2. The [sp]Rule-Change[/sp]: [sp]It's more pronounced in the book, but Peeta and Katniss developed a loving relationship which the population of the Capitol liked a lot. Because of this, at the point in the game where they and not too many other tributes remained, the Capitol decided it would boost their ratings to allow both Peeta and Katniss to survive, if they were the remaining two. However, by the end when they were the only two remaining, the Capitol (the Game Maker and his team, really), as well as President Snow decided they were being rebellious troublemakers, and having both of them survive would likely incite huge revolts across the districts, so they rescinded the earlier rule so only one could survive.[/sp]
Hopefully that helps, ZF911.
EDIT: The post above me explained things well too.
what they did with the host was pretty damn genius
The movie was okay but the camerawork was awful (l33t shaky distRiCt tWelVe cAmeRa even though they just show a hobo eating)
The acting was mediocre
The movie was probably hard to understand for people who didn't read the book, they don't explaining anything. I was watching the movie with my dad and he didn't understand the whole backstory
Battle scenes were toned down way too much. I mean clove died by slightly hitting a wall with her back
I really like the way they presented gamemaker
And I really dislike cinna in the movie
i wanted to see thresh absolutely fucking destroy clove. that was my FAVORITE part of the book when i read it.

also i loved the game-maker's beard. and the game control room, that was done extremely well, i thought.

to answer your first question, please read the rest of the books, they really explain everything well. to answer your second, it was ironic punishment. to answer your third, they didn't want people getting angry
I loved the arena, it was exactly as I imagined it
Especially the river and the cave, those were EXACTLY like I imagined those, I feel like my mind have been read
Probably the best adaptation they could have done with the book given the M rating.
I didn't mind the camera shakiness, the only really bad part was how bad it was right at the start. But it was fitting for the fight scenes.
Wish they made 2 versions of the film. It's been done before with bruno (all be it thats only language, not visuals as such). I liked the film but would have found it alot lot better if it was more visual.
