What the hell happened to Aliens: Colonial Marines?
Wtf I just bought this, knowing it wasn't going to be a great game, but because I was looking forward to the awesome graphics.
I'm seriously just installing it now, will let you know if it's really this f'd up on highest settings.
Got two 6950's in CrossfireX
I'm so sorry.
Since when are E3 demos representative of the final product?
When a developer shows off a "gameplay demonstration" many people assume that the purpose behind this is to demonstrate the gameplay.
Obviously anybody who believes this is tragically mistaken.
This is how the industry works at this point in time. Most publishers will basically order the devs to spend unbelievable amounts of time and money on an incredible looking to demo, to the point where the final product suffers. Same thing happened with Homefront
The thing is, people only really care about this stuff with the lower budget games, cause the bigger budget games like Uncharted 3 can still afford to put out a great product, even if it does look slightly worse than the demo.
Also remember this? "These NPC's are not scripted"

I feel pretty bad now, I asked for this for my birthday.
I know my Dag got it because I helped him out and all, but now it just looks really... disappointing.
I feel bad knowing I made them pay for it.
That really sucks. I don't even know how that's possible.
It's sad this game didn't turn out to be as good as everyone hoped. The videogame world needs some valid predator and alien games goddamnit.
The only thing I really saw different with the Far Cry 3 tech demo and final game comparison was that the tech demo had more foliage and scenery, other than that the rest of the game looked exactly the same. This on the other hand is something on a completely different level.
it was pretty different

That's different though.
Isn't the top screen there from a trailer, whereas the earlier Aliens footage was being boasted as playable?
it was pretty different
At least those aren't major differences. They still put a lot of effort into the game.
In the Aliens video, the fucking differences are impossible to miss.

Wow the demonstration looks way better. The lighting is amazing. What the crap changed?
the problem is that even IF it was a pre rendered trailer and was advertised as such, they didn't even attempt to recreate the feeling, look, or ambiance of it. Even if they were trying to get it to run on shitbox hardware, they could still get the fucking colors right.
If AVP2 could get the look of Aliens right then there's no excuse for this game getting it wrong.
I mean just lower the fucking contrast, jesus

They really need to make a Predator game similar in style to Assassin's Creed.

"FUCK IT" -gearbox
I like how the view model clips through the camera at 3:57
I don't understand why they even had to downgrade view model animations, it changes nothing at all.
I feel bad for Gearbox on this one. Everybody is looking down on them for this.
For everyone who is too lazy, long story short is that Gearbox had outsourced the game for some time, and in that time the game became ruined. It was to the point that Gearbox didn't even want it back; instead they scrapped everything they'd done and tried the best they could to recreate what they had in the alotted time. SEGA had been pressuring them heavily, and since they already requested the game be put in development enough times already, they had to bite the bullet big time and with the very unfinished product they knew it would be a failure.
Consider this a 2013 Sonic '06. SEGA still involved.

This being said, I think many will look at the publishers/devs and call them lazy or greedy because it's the easy thing to do. Unfortunately, events like this are an unavoidable evil in the system.
A game goes over budget or beyond deadline because it's unfinished, and who is unhappy as a result? Shareholders. Why is it important to please shareholders? Because they are the ones allowing you to make the games in the first place. How can you appease the shareholders? Releasing something to get them money. What do you release? An unpolished piece of shit.
In short, don't blame the developers, publishers, executives, or even the shareholders. Blame the system.
Should be illegal to do this, the ol' Bait and Switch. Basically what they've done is the equivalent of applying ENB, getting footage, and selling you the game on that footage but not including ENB, only the differences don't apply to JUST the visuals, so it's worse.
This is the second time that Randy Pitchford has done this now, Fuck that guy and I hope he gets pushed out of Gearbox

Didn't stop them from falsely advertising. Still guilty!
This is why I'm so excited for the new Xbox
It is so fucking old and useless right now, its such a outdated piece of shit
You know what happened?
A guy in a suit in the behalf of the publisher came to the studio one day and said "You know what this needs? This needs EDGE"
And lo' and behold, the game got it's edge. The publisher saw it, and thought it was good.
And onn the 7th day the publishers rested ontop of a pile of crushed hopes.
I feel sorry for SEGA, even though they should have pressed Gearbox more and not been so lenient
I hope after this everyone realises that Gearbox are over hyped to hell. I wouldn't be surprised if Gearbox spent some of SEGA's budget on Borderlands 2
While the video may not have been labelled "WIP" the entire fact that it isn't going to release for nearly a year lets one know it's still in development.
Plus, if you buy games based off year old E3 videos, you are pretty fucking stupid...
And the fact that the gameplay trailers were mostly showing ingame cutscenes and second long flashes of actual gameplay should have rung some bells.
Now if they were using the E3 demo as a actual "buy me now" trailer for the game then false advertising might be considered, but it would be like calling the Overstrike trailer at E3 false advertising because the game took a radically different art direction in the final version.
THings are supposed to get BETTEr from WIP not worse, what the fuck is your point?

I think you should get your priorities straight because right now you sound like a really fucking spoiled first-world rich kid that can't appreciate what it has.
Jup I installed it, and it looks like poop.
Great. I could've bought a nice bottle of whiskey with that money.
Sonic 06 had kind of the same shit changes too, but it wasn't like this, no way. The game was terrible the first time it was shown.

I'm not going to insult anyone for enjoying the game, but I'm still a bit pissed that people are happy to buy games this sloppy and think they're masterpieces.
is sega such a shitty publisher that they cant learn from the disaster that was sonic 06
yeah lets rush development thats never bitten us in the ass before
The PC version of Driver: San Francisco has an HDR file missing, but turn up the brightness on your monitor and it arguably looks better than the console versions.
This looks like a proper bait and switch though.
the most i can hope for is that there were some missing files to be added in that add more atmospheric effects and dynamic lighting. i mean they already forgot the exe. it's possible they forgot a few more things too. maybe they even forget higher res textures. i mean, it's a huge stretch and insanely wishful thinking. but they very clearly HAVE those assets from the demo. they exist in some form. maybe they just completely botched the launch
but i doubt it

Giving Gearbox 7 years to complete a game, all the while investing their money on it, is plenty of time.
I'm not sure why a lot of you are supporting Gearbox on this either; it took them years to even begin development on it and when they did they abandoned it to work on Borderlands 2. Instead of giving the project to someone else much earlier which they should have done, so we could have gotten a decent game instead of a pile of crap, they gave it to a subpar developer very much later and gave them a short deadline.
After receiving the horrible outsourced campaign, Gearbox willingly released what they knew was shit so they wouldn't face legal trouble from Sega.
So yes, this is almost entirely Gearbox's fault and anyone who says different is just supporting Gearbox for unrelated reasons, probably fanboyism.
