Getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled - anything I should know?

Waking up under anesthesia is the weirdest shit ever. I had to have 2 people walk me out to the car.
My dad's a dentist, he's done this before, and gonna do it for my only 2 upper wisdom teeth. The anesthesia isn't even always necessary. Stay calm, just go through with it. You might have an odd, empty feeling in your mouth for a few days, but that will fade. Eat soft foods, and you'll be fine.
Ask for medium term hypnotic drugs, you get to stay home and makes the first few days of serious pain almost disappear as you can't remember much of them.
Awwwww shit I'm starting to feel those holes in my lower jaw. I'm guessing inc. pain?
I was in the same situation as you except all of mine were impacted. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I was barely in any pain once the novocain wore off which surprised me. I didn't need to use any pain medicine and I barely swelled up. There's nothing to worry about.
I'm getting all of my wisdom teeth pulled in August :frown:
Anyone know what kind of drugs I'd get to relieve the pain? And I hear that you have to be really careful with eating after the first 24 hours or you could risk destroying the clotting and bleed. Is this true?
The drugs they put you on are AWESOME
I had it done when I was 4, woke up and saw someone playing tetris.
Exactly how I got into gaming.
Double waffle toast pizza pancake breakfast

This story inspired me to have kids who will have their teeth pulled at 4.
Thank you.
I wasn't born with the ability to make wisdom teeth so i don't really know.
I had to get this done.
Couple of things to remember for after the surgery:
Make sure you get drugged up on painkillers, because shit will hurt for a couple of days.
If you can, buy some yoghurts that come in a squeezable bag, you wanna keep ANYTHING solid out of your mouth.
Your mouth is likely to start leaking blood, this is normal.
If you can, stay in bed, you do not want to be standing up much.
Also after the actual surgery takes place, be ready to throw up.
your life will be a living hell from the pain for the next week
Completely false, at least for me. I barely had to take the pain killers after the first few days. Hell, I was able to go white water rafting 4 days after I got mine pulled.
Some thing you should know is that you need to rinse after you eat ANYTHING, and brush your teeth three times a day. You won't be able to open your mouth more than about a centimeter for a week or so, but it gets better.
I got X-rayed, and it revealed I only had 1. My Dentist doesn't think I need it out (yet).
Good luck mate, and by the way, it is fun as hell going out.
Lucky, mine are going on the 7th. =(
i only had 1 wisdom and it came in correctly, and i got bridges on the rest.
I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled and one twelve year molar, all at the same time. It never really hurt, so I never took my pain pills.
Just remember, don't drink through a straw (as your doctors probably told you already) or you'll get a dry socket which apparently hurt like a mother fucker.
Also, stock up on pudding. I lived off of pudding for the longest time after my surgery :buddy:
Tell the doctor it hurts really bad. Save the medication you get prescribed, and take it later. You'll get like Valiums or something, profit. My sister got 4 of hers taken out, they damaged a nerve in her ear, and she has permanent hearing loss. The bad thing is, it happens quite often.
Valium is a nerve pill.
What the fuck is that going to do for pain?
My friend got, i think it was wisdom or one of the molars, pulled and it made a hole into his sinus cavity.. was not good. Moral of the story is to go to a dentist that has good reviews and is not in the slum of your town...
Ask for Oxycodone instead of Hydro, Hydro is mostly just asprin
I'm a pretty rare case I think, I didn't need to get mine pulled apparently. I asked my dad about my wisdom teeth when I was 18 and he just told me "You would have already had them pulled by now if you needed them to be pulled".
When I last went to a dentist. I was 12, did not see any teeth growing yet.
When do they start growing ?
I had 2 teeth pulled out years ago, all I got was a shot to numb the area. It didn't hurt, just heard all the ripping noises and I laughed, it did not hurt afterward, only when I put my tongue on them.
It hurts
If the Lortab doesn't work ask them for percocet. It's stronger and more effective. Other than that, it's generally a piece of cake getting them out [compared to what it was in the olden days]. Varies by individual, if the roots go through your nasal cavities might be bad but that's very very rare. Mine were reaaaal easy and I ate through a bottle of percocet (being allergic to everything else is great). Dry sockets can be unpleasant, don't suck on anything. Drink with a spoon. You'll have little clove bandage thingies (probably) packed into your sockets where the teeth were, if I remember correctly, and those will have to be changed periodically by an oral hygienist. That's an in-and-out thing at the doc's and only mild discomfort.
The pain meds will make you happy throughout, so no worries, really. Ice cream and pretty colors.
It's different for everyone. For some, its nothing. For others, its a living hell.
I got the 4 of mine out back in October. I also opted for IV. Walked in, sat down in the chair. They hooked me up to some vitals, then put the IV in(Just had fluids). They got ready, then injected the knockout into the IV. My reaction "Oh hey IV is in I wonder when I'l-(snore)". Completely out. I woke up once during the procedure, and was out again before I could blink. Next thing I remembered was being groggy as all hell and couldnt see straight. They had injected the wakeup. They unhooked everything, and pulled up a wheelchair which they helped me into. I was still groggy for at least the next 3 hours. Just crawled up on the couch when I got home.
I just kinda stayed there the rest of the day, having to keep those damn cotton wads on the holes. Damn near choked on my own spit, so I had to limp over to the bathroom and spit(yeah, I know they tell you not to do that, but I'll be damned if I choked to death and my obituary read "died from his own spit)....which didnt exactly go well since my jaw was still numb. Plan on having nothing but soft foods for at least a week.
Just used some advil constantly for the next few days, which was fine for the pain, but I was still fucking sore. But the next day, I was pretty much in good shape. Even managed to get to the HS Football game that night too.
Really, don't panic over it. Gonna be annoying, but once its over with ya don't have to worry about it again.
...Goddamn, I think I just rambled again. TIme to go to bed.
I don't know about wisdom teeth, but i've had two teeth pulled and it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. The bleeding was very annoying from what I remember, but I don't remember pain being an issue at all.
However, my best friend and my brother had horrible times with their wisdom teeth coming out. I'm hoping i'll be a lucky one.
Still scared to death for that time to come when I have to get mine out though.
After waking up from the Anesthesia, they put me in a recovery room.
There was a phone in there with a blinking light.
That blinking light was mother fucking interesting.
In other words drugs help.
You might feel a lilttle..Pain.
the only thing you will be able to eat for a week will be warm soup, and mac and cheese.
i actually wouldn't wish what you are about to go through on my worst enemy.
