I found some good torrents for classical music. They're on The Pirate Bay, but it's obviously not warez. Sometimes if I'm in the mood I love it. Other times... well it's just too boring.
I always love it! My favourite (classical [ok, fine, romantic]) piece would have to be Symphony No.6, Op.29 "Pathétique" by Tchaikovsky. Every movement is so well composed, everything about it is perfect. It's the type of piece that after you've heard it you just sit back and smile. I also play the piano and especially love Rachmaninoff, Beethoven and Bach. Does anyone here know the piece 'Elegie' by Rachmaninoff? Absolutly fantastic - Dan the Man, I suggest you grab it from http://www2.free-scores.com/PUBLIC/divers/rachman_op3_1.pdf You'll need to get a Steinway to play those fff's on though! I'm also playing 'Rhapsody in Blue' by George Gershwin, (I'm on piano) with an orchestra - It's tremendous fun! Good to see I'm not the only person here with classical tastes! George
Some orchestral and classical I like, but a lot of stuff I prefer is actually more modern music simply played on orchestral instruments, like apocalyptica and the halo soundtrack as have been mentioned. I also quite like singers who have an operatic voice, hence my like of nightwish. A lot of classical is crap, but then a lot of music is crap period, but there are some gems in there that are superb.
I like Classical music, though I have to say I only listen to it occasionally. Although I personally prefer Baroque.
I only like Electric Light Orchestra :v:

George
I agree, I thought I was the only one. Elegie sounds nice, my piano is unfortunately not a steinway, it's just an upright, but a pretty good Kawai one. Anyhow, I really want to learn Prelude in G Minor and Prelude in C# Minor by Rach, they're awesome, what sort of pieces do you play? The Elegie reminds me of the mid section of Prelude in G minor.
I like orchestral music, but very few types of classic appeal to me. I really only like a few pieces by Beethoven, some Mozart, others Tchaikovsky, and a very small amount of Haydn. I more enjoy Wagner, Dvorak, Paganini and Rimsky-Korsakov, however. Yes, I am an orchestra geek.
Dan: I play all sort of music - Bach, Mozart (though I'm not a fan), through to Beethoven, on to Chopin, Rach, Schumann, Ravel, Debussy ('General Lavine' is always popular) and also more modern ones such as Granados, Poulenc, Milhaud (I've played one of his duets - Scahamouche), even Bartok. From Rach, I am also learning (abeit slowly) the preludes from Opus 32. Now days, I'm more into romantic music & Beethoven. (and jazz, but lets not get started!) I see you're learning the C# minor prelude. I guess it is one of those pieces that you should just know (even if I don't) along with Fantasy impromptu, Moonlight, etc. I'm lucky enought to have a 'Rich. Lipp & Sohn' baby grand to practice on out my place. It's got a really nice sound and (heavy) mechanism. SealHammer: You're an orchestra geek too? Good stuff. I also play percussion, and so I'm also in a couple of oechestras. One of them is current'y playing the Tchaik 6th, and while there's little percussion in it, I enjoy sitting back and listening. chris0132: I wouldn't say that a lot of classical is crap, I think that the ratio of 'crap' vs 'non crap' for classical music is a lot better than for modern music, and most of the crap orchestra stuff has disappeared over the years. Wow. I like writing long posts! George
Any one remember Total Annihilation? They had some GREAT orchestra music with it. I ripped the music from it the other day and no I play it from my car while riding down the getto :3:
Mozart Requiem - Dies Irae POST APOCALYPTIC THOUGHTS COME TO MIND
Wasn't even written by Mozart I don't think, Verdi or summat.
well it's the MOZART REQUIEM SO IT MUST BE BY MOZART RIGHT DAN THE MAN nah, it's just a hymn made by a latin dude put into musical setting by mozart, gud stuff.
Wasn't even written by Mozart I don't think, Verdi or summat.
Verdi's requiem sounds nothing like that. It's Mozart's. It's not a very good recording though in my opinion.
"Roar (Cloverfield Overture)" apparantly hit iTunes today.
Verdi's requiem sounds nothing like that. It's Mozart's. It's not a very good recording though in my opinion.
Alright, fair enough.
I'm more of a fan of theatrical music, which is kind of a mix between orchestral and modern used in movies and television shows. i.e.
Mussorgsky - Pictures at an exhibition. Imo a MUST HEAR. http://www.seeqpod.net/search/?plid=76cde34b55 attention. it may gives you a "wtf" moment! Mussorgsky describes his life moments and his feelings on an exhibition of his dead friend's art. it isn't also complete... but the best ones are in this list. ;)
I don't think this is exactly "Classical" nor "Orchestra", however it sounds like something close to that... Could anyone explain what kind of music style this is? I love this music style, I am particularly fond of piano music. Especially the kind of dark themed piano music such as this. Edit:
I'm more of a fan of theatrical music, which is kind of a mix between orchestral and modern used in movies and television shows. i.e.
Oh, I guess I got my answer there :uhoh:... Edit: I really love Dexter. Such an excellent show, and the music is pure beauty.
Dream Theater has some good orchestral music in it, like the song "Overture 1928". Also yeah I love classical music, it's so amazingly well written, every note makes a huge difference.
Pictures at an exhibition is fantastic. Do I play any of those 'must play' pieces? not really. I know the first 16 bars of Fantasy Impromptu and about the same of the Presto of the Moonlight (the movement that starts with arpeggios), but I can play all of the first movement (of course!). Really, I only know enough to pretent I know all of it. I aggree with Buckpick - every note is there for a reason. I guess that's what happened when you couldn't just Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V in Sibelius. George
First bar of the impromptu is just as good as the entire piece, as the majority of the piece is fairly easy. (mid section)
I've fallen in love with classical atmospheric music now, this song: If someone has more of this stuff to recommend, please, do so!
if you have enough patience to listen, it gets legendary at about 3 minutes in [editline]10:29AM[/editline] i'm also partial to the works of Bloch and Nielsen.
Very nice, I love it, thank you!
I really like Igor Stravinsky and Gustav Mahler, the beautiful use of dissonance and many layers make them unique. Edit: I'm learning to play Bouree by Bach on guitar now, seems pretty easy. :v:
Needs more Alkan
Orchestral music is like a genre nobody can hate. I love it.
I like my bit of Chopin.
