Also, TH is a pal of mine and I send him my conspiracy theories in PMs.

uh no
white pride tries to lump all white people together and i refuse to be lumped into the same racial group as europeans and white australians
I think that if race didn't matter, we wouldn't have black history month, college grants for asian kids, etc etc.
It's until we get rid of that stuff and treat everyone as equals that racism will still exist.
Same with "gay pride", the irony in it is that if you stand out from society, of course some people aren't going to accept you into it.
People just need to be the same and acknowledge their differences.

the whole thing is that it's inequal for other races so these things are used to equalize shit.

Brilliant. Great. I wonder why nobody thought of that before!

Asian kids don't get any extra benefits for getting into colleges. Being asian is generally a bad thing for college applications, at least into engineering schools, because of the amount that are already accepted anyway.
Gay Pride is needed because gays are denied fundamental rights.
I agreed with you right up to the bits in bold because, at those points, instead of presenting an objective argument, you've created a horrible us and them complex that assumes all of the people reading your comment are white Americans.
A late response but thats not what i meant by "they". They meaning people who do that. I'm not saying "WE" are any better than them. And i'm not assuming the person reading that is white either, as white people do it too. They just refers to anyone and everyone who does it, regardless of race. I'm not affiliating myself to any group in the argument other than the one saying people who do this shit are stupid. I treat people like people. The only people i treat differently are my friends, because i obviously like them better.
It was a terrible case of anaphora but i couldn't think of a better way to describe it.
People think their race is better than all others. This is not at all to say EVERYONE feels this way. You can't control how a person thinks. And you can't get everyone to agree on one thing. It is a generalization, but it's true. It's just that racism is going the other way at the same time. Now instead of being held back for being a certain race, people are now being pushed forward for being a certain race. It goes both ways. White kid being beaten up by black kids for being white and vice versa. Hispanic getting a job over a white guy based on race and vice versa.
I actually posted the exact same essay as a thread in General Discussion a while ago, and it got buried in a mountain of dumbs
No it's not. This is a convenient fantasy that lets you avoid feeling guilty about benefiting from systemic racism.

Except the overwhelming, vast majority of these incidents of discrimination favor white people, because the people in the position of power are white. Most of them go completely unnoticed--if a well-qualified black kid goes for a job interview and they say "don't call us, we'll call you" and never call, and an equally-qualified white kid goes for a job interview at the same company and is immediately hired, who is ever going to know? As far as the black kid knows he just didn't get the job.
The only way to measure this kind of discrimination is in controlled studies, which--as shown in the essay posted earlier--generally show white people are the prime beneficiaries from discrimination in the workplace, real estate, and finance.
The sad part is minorities (including homosexuals and women) who experience this kind of thing every day are simply accused of "being too sensitive" and "pulling the (something) card" if they complain about it, and it takes white activists like Tim Wise to get people to actually listen credulously.
White privilege is pretty awesome if you're a straight white male, I'm not sure I'd want to give it up.
offensive thread
Facepunch seems to really dislike white guilt, it sucks to feel it but it is important to have it or else nothing will change.

97% of blacks voted for Obama
That's 34.92 million people that have my back when it comes to any kind of position of power that could "get us our revenge"
Though I won't be getting revenge.
If I was the next Zuckerberg. (which I plan to be) I'd have a lot of black supporters.
Which means a lot of users of my service, which then bleeds into other demographics.
I can't say I have a billion dollar idea. I definitely feel I have a 10 million dollar idea though. And that's enough to bring me to phase 3 of my agenda... but I digress.

So my point is... I'm glad I'm black.
Because being a white prodigy isn't as special anymore.

Huuuuge leap of logic here.

Good luck, though.

Every time I see a successful non-rapping black person I see so many blacks get behind that person.
It is a personal observation. I feel it is very real though.
If Zuckerberg was black his ethnicity would be a topic.
Blacks wanted to see a black president.
They want to see a black bill gates too.

no der is no racism!
if people were so racist den why don't the coloured people just get jobs n start working!?!?
tell me dat!!?
(your average youtube comment)
I agree completely. I'm in opposition to racism, I'm an advocate of equality and tolerance and love and whatnot, but black-specific holidays are just another white mans way of looking down on them, more of a feel-good thing than an actual step toward advocating actual equality.

Yes... I said "Racial Equalization"
This is what I see.
People say: "Asian, Black, White, Hispanic and Brown People should not have their intellect, character or background prejudged based on their race...AKA race should not be recognized, only people"
But at the same time we have black history month and this McDonalds-365black-thing which is recognizing a particular race.
Does anyone agree that the channel title "Black Entertainment Television" implies "this is content that entertains black people, as opposed to non-blacks, and that Black's should mimic to some level the content on such channel"?
Please post thoughts.
Its equity vs. equivalence. If the BET advocated both then that would be kind of weird since one realizes that due to the system, races are now unequal and they try to make up for that with social programs such as affirmative action while the other just completely cancels out race as a factor for anything and puts everyone at an equal playing field. Now if BET just supports one, then its fine because their message is not in conflict with their actions. And since BET wasn't founded on government funding for a "all black channel" but rather a businessman, it makes sense for them to have this opinion.
In my opinion, a system using both equity and equivalence would be the most useful. Right now we need programs to combat institutionalized racism like affirmative action, and when/if other races ever get on an equal playing field then we could end equity and aim for equivalence, which is everyone is equal regardless of race.
Also I like how everyone is like "why can't we have a white history month" Every month is a goddamn white history month. There aren't any "history months" in nations of say, a black majority because they are in a majority, why would they need a history month? While I understand why these history months were created; to celebrate the culture of a minority people, I wouldn't want a history month for my race because, like Morgan Freeman said, I don't want my race's history in the US to be marginalized.
Its shit like affirmative action. They dont want races to be EQUAL. They want their race to have more opportunities, and rise above the others, because they think they deserve it.
Because uh, races are unequal. You really sound like the typical white person who doesn't understand they have privileges in a majority white society (and most non-white societies as well.) Despite there being like no biological differences between races because of European imperialism and white beliefs of superiority they have become a very important factor. Skin color can determine where you live, who you interact with, and what people believe you are. Affirmative action and other programs was made as a way to combat it. How many people from underprivileged areas do you think could get into high tier schools when they don't have the money or opportunities to get that shot? Do you want all the Ivy league schools to stay upper class whitebread? Because Yale and Princeton uphold that standard.
Yes, they do want more opportunities, but they want them so they can get to equal footing as the "white master race." While some people abuse that, that's what it was originally meant to do.
Shit it seems like facepunch is suffering from white middle-class teen male syndrome.

Pretty shocking, right?
In order to achieve equality of opportunity first there needs to be equality of outcome so that the former is even possible.
White privilege is pretty awesome if you're a straight white male, I'm not sure I'd want to give it up.
Also why many white people want to keep the status quo. They get undeniable advantages over other races in most countries (maybe except for some in the Middle East.)
[editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
Ah crap Th89 already cited the study.
I don't suppose this would be a good time to mention I didn't actually write that essay :v:
:saddowns:
That was a let down
This is the most progressive race discussion Ive ever seem on FP
Maybe banning everyone isn't the way
Many white people are so used to being catered to that the second they see something that doesn't target their own interests, taste and likeness first and foremost, they want to act as though some reverse discrimination is going on. Are you serious?
You can actually look at network television and dare complain about BET being for black people? Really?! You don't need a WET because the vast majority of every television network features programs/commercials with people who look like you. You don't need a white history month when general history that's drummed into everyone's head day in and day out features predominately white figures.
It bugs me to no end when after all that catering to, some people still have the audacity to complain when a few measly things like BET/Black History Month are set aside to affirm people who aren't the [white] status quo.
