No I'm not, but I'm saying that an average atheist is smarter than an average Christian. Obama being smart contributes to the fact that he's most likely an atheist.

you're skewing "average" dramatically
if you think that the "average" religious importance in America is 100% you're fucking daft
it's about ~40% which isn't statistically different
Really?

May I have the list of countries listed in that? Until then, I'm going to assume most of the ones towards 100% Religion Important are sub-par countries that where most of the population does not get an extensive education anyway.
Why was this thread even created? Who gives a flying fuck if Obama is Atheist?
What the fuck is happening in here. Usually we see a shit storm against religion.
Especially when it has to do with politics. It should stay like that, religion and politics doesn't belong together.
wouldnt it be great if that were actually something that was happening in our country? level headed decisions being made logically instead of being based on human beliefs and emotions etc.
itll never happen until we evolve a little more and get through our technological adolescence
fucks sake only 40% of americans even go to church at least once a month
Polls like that also aren't incredibly accurate most of the time.
hahahahaha no
Atheists believe they're smarter and more logical than Christians, but that's because the majority of us are angsty 15 year olds that already think we know everything about the world. The Atheist trend is one of Generation X and the Net Generation - people that have hardly even gotten out of fucking college or haven't even been in it. With age comes experience, those with experience are often far more intelligent.
In fact, most Christians are extremely logical outside of their Christian beliefs. They believe in a God. So what? Most blueblooded small-time businessmen are pretty devoutly Christian and holy shit I'm willing to bet they're smarter than you. I, as an Atheist, have worked with Christians in businesses. 90% of them are fucking business masterminds. Superb at accounting, working a market, and social networking with other businessmen to combine efforts.
Your religious belief has nothing to do with your intelligence. If you think it does, you're ridiculously pretentious and need to grow up significantly.
I agree with this so much, I don't mind Atheist's but I can't stand the general amount on the Internet as it tends to be 15 year olds trying to fit it and usually coming up with something stupid or unneeded to a chat.
And another thing is we are all human, having a faith doesn't suddenly make you have less IQ and you have to be pretty stupid yourself to think such a thing.
fucks sake only 40% of americans even go to church at least once a month
Most Christians I know at my place of work and when I was in highschool and college didn't even read most of the Bible.
When angsty teenage Atheists look at religious nut-jobs like some of the Tea-party protesters, they often don't realize that's the very small minority.
fucks sake only 40% of americans even go to church at least once a month
Knowing that most of the Christians usually accept what they're told, it is logical to assume that most of them are far easier to brainwash and use propaganda on, which at least makes them appear more stupid.

another foolish assumption
i wonder, do you ever watch TELEVISION
fucks sake only 40% of americans even go to church at least once a month
That has bearing on how important people think religion is?

Where are you getting a list of the countries on that chart?
Funny Christian bandwagon here

No, I never do
Most Christians I know at my place of work and when I was in highschool and college didn't even most of the Bible.
exactly
I mean shit don't people understand the actual purpose of an IQ test is to center 100 as average? That average is comprised from entire populaces - most of which, are Christians. Atheists would've been taken into account, sure, but they'd be a minority.
Funny Christian bandwagon here
If you read our posts, you'd know some of us are Atheists.
If you read our posts, you'd know a lot of us are Atheists.
id be surprised if he isnt getting someone to dictate and read aloud for him
thread is pointless, PEACE
I couldn't care less, as long as he doesn't fill his speeches with religious propaganda or let his religion or lack thereof affect his political decisions.

the willingness to accept propaganda is more a factor of how desperate you are
for instance if you'd notice in the 2008 elections the liberals (historically, religiously unimportant) fell behind Obama with a huge fucking torrent of force dude to hype, propaganda and the simple fact that they were desperate for a way out of what the reps put us through
it goes both ways
I know, why are you telling me this though?
Trying to call a christian bandwagon on a bunch of atheists makes you look like an idiot.
Again, your age?
I thought Obama was a muslim...
Or it would get him nearly impeached and hated by a good 60-70% of the nation. You underestimate how distrusted atheists are. If you thought talk of him being a muslim was inflammatory, just wait till he mentions being an atheist.
I'm not saying that it would be smart, but it would be honest. If he secretly is an atheist right now and wont admit it he is lying to everyone. No matter why, he is deceiving us for popularity.
I'm not saying that it would be smart, but it would be honest. If he secretly is an atheist right now and wont admit it he is lying to everyone. No matter why, he is deceiving us for popularity.
A politician lying to the public for popularity? Never have I seen such an act!
bush did better with katrina then obama did with the oil spill, see news section.
Why does everybody who opposes government intervention bash Obama for not intervening enough with the spill.
I'm not saying that it would be smart, but it would be honest. If he secretly is an atheist right now and wont admit it he is lying to everyone. No matter why, he is deceiving us for popularity.
Oh come off it already, politics is hardly ever a game filled with honesty. Had he said said he was an atheist at the start of the campaign he would have never made it. Most politicians lie, most decieve the public for popularity. The few that are completely honest often have a hard time getting to a strong position.
Agnostics are the smartest because we don't spend out time thinking about god or god not existing, we don't care, we get on with out lives.
All arguments about god are pointless as it doesn't matter.
That has bearing on how important people think religion is?
I'm sorry it seems pretty fucking logical to me.
If religion is important to you, you engage in it and go to your religious communal, aka "Church". If it's unimportant, well, you'd be less likely to make the decision to get off your ass on sunday morning to get to the damn building.
Where are you getting a list of the countries on that chart?
I'm not, I'm using America as an example because we've got a higher religious importance than pretty much every other 1st world nation
we're labeled the "nation of believers" for fucks sake. A bit of a misnomer - just because you believe in something hardly means it's the forefront of your life.
This is something that Facepunchers honestly generalize way too much. It's like none of you have experienced a normal christian in your fucking lives. The average person doesn't run their fucking lives based around religion, that's dumb. There are devout people who do, sure, but I guarantee if you ask any run of the mill Christian to identify themselves in one word they'd probably state their nationality, political affiliation or ethnicity first because it's more important in our lives (ie, they'd say "I'm an American" or "I'm a black man" or "I'm a democrat" before saying "I'm a Christian")
the willingness to accept propaganda is more a factor of how desperate you are

Propaganda doesn't matter much when it comes to American democracy (a meaningless choice).
