Air Force, In Iraq/Afghanistan, if your on Combat Duty are not going to get shot down in a Jet. Perhaps a helicopter though
Helicopter pilots in the Air Force are a lot more strictly disciplined/trained, and a lot more skilled than helo pilots in the other branches. There aren't a lot of openings for pilots of any kind in the Air Force, which is why they're at the top of the food chain as far as piloting goes. The only Air Force helo pilots that go on combat missions in the Mid East are CSAR guys, and they get in and out so quickly they don't have to worry about getting shot down.
He's not doing anything dangerous you overexcited moron. He's 35G, and, therefore, a pogue. His job involves sitting in a nice comfy chair in an air-conditioned building all day looking at pictures and video taken by UAVs, while people like my brother go out as 11B and get shot at and make sure Afghan citizens are actually safe and secure by putting their lives on the line. OP is hardly some admirable hero. His life isn't on the line in the slightest, as is the case with 99% of fobbits.
[editline]05:02PM[/editline]
Drill sergeants are the guys who train ALL soldiers, no matter their MOS. But he's going to BCT for every MOS other than 11B (baby shit), whereas OSUT (for 11B) is an actually grueling "fuck you"-style of training program that whips soldiers into the best shape they'll ever be in.
lol jesus christ you're retarded. The entry PFT is WAY more lenient for the Marines than it is for the Army, you thick-skulled nitwit. And believe me when I say that the Army has just as many, if not more tech jobs than the Air Force. It's just that the Army has infantry and some real SOFs to boot, whereas the Air Force only has those little SOFs that don't really do much except act as attachments to Army/Marine infantry groups. Really, though, the Air Force has its fair share of shitty jobs for retarded people, even more than the Army depending on your definition of a shitty job. The Navy is just straight-up useless right now, though, all they do is act as support for Marines on occasion.
To be fair, if it wasn't for the guys watching over your brother with the UAV's your brother would have a much harder job, so be a bit more appreciative. Although I get your point about him blowing this out of proportion.

My brother got about jack for UAV support on his last deployment. He went on 148 combat missions and all of his intel was from cav teams and other infantry platoons in neighboring areas. He was in Khost province, though, so it probably would've been really nice if he did have some UAV support.

Well I doubt they have enough UAV's to go around, they still help though when deployed.
You guys are such fuckholes. Seriously. The guy is going into the military. I don't care what role it is, you guys should be appreciative.

He's making it seem likes he's going on a suicide mission to take on the whole Taliban bare chested with dual AKs, but he's just sitting on his ass looking at pictures.
good luck

You might have some reality problems if you think that 35G is an intense, brave, or patriotic MOS. For the amount of drama he's caused, he's really doing jack shit. I'm really sick of every Facepuncher who goes into the military thinking it's necessary to make a thread about their boring pogue job (not to say that there aren't interesting pogue jobs.) Maybe when a Facepuncher, by the grace of god, manages to go into and possibly even complete an SOF training, I'd like to see a thread. Until then you're just one in a hundred thousand other people doing the same boring shit job (even if it is a necessary and useful part to the war machine.)
Cannon Fodder. While I admire your decision to serve, I hope you understand that we're fighting a war not for "our freedom" but for personal interests of those in command.
At least one side of every war is fought for that.

dont lie to me you arent even in the army

There are worse jobs. And the army does have good benefits.

I look forward to joining the Army as well. But I'm going in with ROTC, then imma go Airborne even though I'm scared shitless of heights
I just gotta wait for this year to be over (class of 11)

Quick word of advice: Everyone in your company will hate you and label you as "that kid" because of you coming out of school in a leadership position. And don't start to think you're hard shit for being airborne, you are literally about as useful as regular infantry, especially if you're just in division without having attended school.
The only thing that keeps me from joining is the fact that I'm absent from home for a long while. Miss out on stuff and such.
good luck broseph
