Hah, I know. I've got relatives up in north minnesota, that place is all over. They love hockey definitely, but also dress like they're from texas, have plains-states farms, and talk like canadians. It's so awkward :v:

also, the reason the mosquito has no shadow is because lots of macro photographers tend to use a diffuse box right above their subject, to evenly light things, since a normal flash would cause some pretty heavy shadows at that range... or potentially fry the bug to a crisp if it's too close.

It's always annoying that people's views of Minnesota are purely based on the northern region of the state, but it's to be expected as that's where your relatives live. If you come visit around the state capitol in Minnesota it's fairly similar to New York, it's just that the buildings are smaller. :v:
Also it appears that practically everyone around here likes every sport, not just hockey.
But I agree that the residents around the region of Fargo are rather special.

These are all screenshots from GIMP, but the same concepts apply and you will find similar functions in Photoshop.
To start with, that white box around your trollface looks horrible. We will be using the fuzzy select/magic wand tool to clear it out:

I don't want to mess with the rest of the image while cleaning up the trollface, so I made the face into its own layer:

Since the face has a very well defined border, the fuzzy select tool does an excellent job of selecting the area we don't want:

Uh oh, there's still some black lines coming out of the bottom of the trollface! We will use the color-picker and paintbrush tools to match the pink shade of the background:

Now that the face has been cleaned up, we're ready to re-combine it with the original image. In GIMP, this is readily accomplished with the Merge Down option:

I've actually spent a bit of time in minneapolis, feels like chicago.
and yeah, I actually refer to my relatives' accents as "Fargonadian", as well as their ways of... being themselves. :v:
