If you have a midi keyboard, then yes install it and get VST's for synths. If that's waht you mean by jamming
This mixerboard is impossible to learn gah :v:

Yes, and you might be able to play on your computer keyboard as well. Just make sure you either have speakers that can get to a loud volume or an amp.
A good place to find new instruments is kvraudio.com
Computer Music did a review of a song me, Rotti and VinC made called Roots! (huge image)

I don't know what the topic in this thread is, but I know what it's going to be: taiko drums.

Ignore the advertisement. Listen to the drums.
Also, some live playing.

I'll just leave this here. We were supposed to have a recording day with the jazz-band, but the sax-guy was busy, so we brought in a guitarist and made this tune. Vacuum cleaner blues. A tune about a man with a transvestite wife, who left him for a vacuum-cleaner, because it was better than him in bed.
Yes, it's me singing, because I was the only one who dared :v: I can't sing I know, but it's a satirical tune. Anyway, enough bickering, hope you like it Mr. Jazzy.

See, you're hitting blues spot on! Blues isn't really about being sad, it's more about letting yourself go and express yourself in whatever dirty or clean way it may be. It's great, it's got feeling, it's hilarious and it sounds great, I applaud you!
Your singing was really the best part of it.

Thanks man! I was really pleased with the feel we got out of it.
I followed in the footsteps of John Popper and purchased for my self a Honer Special 20 Harmonica.
When used right, the 3xOsc plugin for FL Studio can be very powerful.
When used right, the 3xOsc plugin for FL Studio can be very powerful.
You can get electro basses and simple chord things out of it, but I really wouldn't say very powerful.
-snips- I'm tired yo
Is there any sort of name for the synthesis that goes into creating basslines like:
Preferably with FL Studio in mind, or any external VST that can be utilized within FL Studio.

I can manage to make some decent basses with massive alone, but I figure there needs to be something more to it than that, my basses always sound weak, for example, what external plugins/effects, etc.
Tl;dr: How to make big, fat, thick bass, I'd appreciate any links to tutorials or even just a term I could google and research.
The bass in those examples has a lot in the low mids and some overtones in the mid-high range. Makes sense because that type of music doesn't have a lot going on, meaning that applying a typical bass sound would be boring. Also, whenever a bass is acting as a lead they have to bring up the mid range to make it stand out. Also, they don't have as much bass in there because they clearly wanted the kick win the battle.
Just started learning the solo for "Time". It's not that good yet, but I'd like if you'd tell me what I should do differently. :v:

Something that I find helps is to improvise your own solo over the track trying to get the feel of the solo being actually learning the solo.
Spot on advice.
Basses
The one where there are a lot of synths going? .These are quite commonly called complextro, it would be a sub genre of electro house which is completely retarded but whatever.
There are really fucking hard to make, if you want them, I recommend limiting yourself to like 3 notes from a scale, and making a melody with a single synth first, and then making different synths for all the notes.
As for mixing, make sure they are all at roughly the same volume, buscompress and distort them slightly. Some panning can make a world of difference. Pitchbend sounds really good in phrases like that.
To get the fatness, just experiment. A lot of it has to do with the stereo field
[editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
And yeah, like Pepin said, EQ out some low end and boost the mids isntead.
Does anyone know what guitar Chris Martin is playing in:

I'm looking to buy a steel string acoustic, one that sounds like that would be absolutely brilliant.
Well I just 'acquired' guitar rig 4, had a look around and I'm amazed, there's so much stuff to play with here
I got a $15 audio interface heading down in the mail, just to see if it works with the program. My family seems pretty hell bent on buying me this

"The US-100 records in stereo at CD-quality 48kHz/16-bit resolution and includes a free copy of Audacity software to get you started. An XLR or 1/4" microphone input is provided, as well as unbalanced stereo line ins and outs. Step up to TASCAM quality without breaking the bank with the US-100."
I didn't want anything for my 18th which is next week, got offered new guitars, amps, just something landmark and I didn't want anything (let alone hosting a party ohgod) and I'm being told that I don't really have much of a choice in the matter, and since this is on sale for $60 I guess I'll be getting this, normally at $150
Today was a good day, maybe I'll have something to record soon
[editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
I would like to learn how to write some post rock
It comes with a free copy of Audacity?
