I never understood why people think electronic music alll sounds the same, but then again I listen to IDM mainly not the bullshit music that artists like deadmau5 and skrillex churn out. While we're talking about Aphex twin, check out this awesome jazz-cover of flim.
not actually electronic then, is it
Okay, everyone has their own opinion. Some people like italo house, some people like Dubstep. Some people like rock. Some people like punk. Hey what the fuck some people even manage to like breakcore and harsh noise so I guess it's all up to ones individual self.
some people even manage to honestly like dubstep it's crazy how the world works
Yeah totally crazy man
the convert people to genres they dislike thread
hey guys check out this jazz noise quartet [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] it's really good people say there is not a lot of variety in jazz noise quartets but they aren't looking hard enough!
i hate electronic music but thanks for the suggestion
I felt the same until I bothered to listen to it.
by electronic I mean programmed music. any music that is actually being played by a musician as opposed to played by a media player on said musician's computer is okay by me. You can't express yourself if you're not actually doing anything. This is why I can listen to electronic music like Freezepop and so on. The drums are pre-written of course, but they are actually playing all of the keyboard parts, live and in studio.
Are you telling me that if you found out that your favourite song was actually produced electronically ('programmed') that you would hate it? Even if it sounded exactly the same. Would you really hate it just because someone isn't playing an instrument live?
I never understood why people think electronic music alll sounds the same, but then again I listen to IDM mainly not the bullshit music that artists like deadmau5 and skrillex churn out.
Really? I agree some of his tech house is pretty boring, but...
Electronic music is hard to make and there is just too much stuff you can do, so many effects and shit.
not actually electronic then, is it
Venetian Snares is, but that video was for CheeserCrice.
ok let's settle this now everyone likes that
Yes.
I downloaded a game called "Extreme roadtrip" on my ipod and played it and noticed that the soundtrack sounds kinda familiar (and awesome). I did a little research and found it that it's made by souleye (the guy who made soundtrack for VVVVVV). It's fucking awesome! http://souleyedigitalmusic.bandcamp.com/track/extreme-road-trip-ingame [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] Just came to mind when Yurko posted that song

I think you guys are looking for the music forum. Also I have such a hard time deciding whether I like m1dy or not
no that song would just simply not be my favorite song in the first place because I can pretty much immediately tell if something was actually played or not. If there happens to be a song I like a lot that is a electronic I'm not going to not listen to it just because. It's a subconscious thing at this point. [editline]24th August 2011[/editline]
Venetian Snares is, but that video was for CheeserCrice.
no idea what either of those things are
If there happens to be a song I like a lot that is a electronic I'm not going to not listen to it just because. It's a subconscious thing at this point.
If you like it, why on earth would you avoid it?
i'm not avoiding it? I don't think you get it. I simply don't like music made purely electronically naturally, not because of some weird bias or something, but because subconsciously I don't enjoy it, the conclusion I came to as to why this is using deductive reasoning is stated above. I don't avoid it but I certainly have no reason to waste my time searching for it when I know I dislike the majority of it already on a simple, broad fundamental basis

Simplicity isn't always bad you know.

He doesn't like it. That's okay. As long as he doesn't try to say electronic music is universally shit on some shitty basis and that no one should like it, I'm okay with it. Pushing your tastes on other people is stupid and rarely works.

Pushing your tastes on other people is stupid and rarely works.
True. I admit myself I feel the same way about metal music as he does for electronic, I don't think that can be changed. Still I find electronic music a far broader term. All music is electronic these days if you think about it, unless its some kind of live orchestral perfomance. Why is a guitar recorded into a mic, into a computer and then compressed into an mp3 file more 'real' than a synthesizer? But lets not have a big discussion about it because I understand what he means.
But electronic music is easier to make for an average person, which is why there is so much of it. Play an instrument, start a band, write songs and perform them. It's very hard and not many can do it. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] I personally like acoustic music because I like rock, blues, jazz, gospel, folk and that kinda stuff. You can't do that electronically, as in programming it.

And electronic music is harder to make since the person who sequences and programs it usually mxies and possibly masters it too. Also getting your stuff to sound human and stuff is incredibly hard, as you mentioned It's not inferior musically, it's just as hard to make as acoustic music.
And electronic music is harder to make since the person who sequences and programs it usually mxies and possibly masters it too. Also getting your stuff to sound human and stuff is incredibly hard, as you mentioned.
Same goes for someone who produces their own acoustic tracks. Electronic musicians are lucky in that they have to do less mixing in that their sound choice usually fits together pretty well.
Same goes for someone who produces their own acoustic tracks. Electronic musicians are lucky in that they have to do less mixing in that their sound choice usually fits together pretty well.
True but mixing is less important in acoustic music. In electronic mixing is like more than half the track Yes I realise it is really important for acoustic music too. I'm just saying, electronic music is not played live, it usually consists of more repetitive patterns, and relies more heavily on effects usage and a clean mix.
True but mixing is less important in acoustic music.
ahahaha what
Same goes for someone who produces their own acoustic tracks. Electronic musicians are lucky in that they have to do less mixing in that their sound choice usually fits together pretty well.
not really lol, half of the demos i hear on fp are poorly mixed down. it takes days on end to get everything to come together perfectly. producing accoustic tracks requires mixing yes, but you cannot compare the mixing of both because a track on either side can be so complex it will require hours of mixdown
True but mixing is less important in acoustic music. In electronic mixing is like more than half the track
Ehhh, no. Mixing and mastering is really important for acoustic tracks. It seems that most people disregard this and have their tracks sounding like it was recorded inside a sock.
Well, usually the bad acoustic music gets filtered out because it doesn't require you to just be musical.
