Having a bit of a mess with the some old recordings of my band (Me on bass, My brother on Drums) to try out some of the vintage stuff on the Focusrite LiquidMix (This thing has BAGS of character, I love it!)

All mixed with liquidmix models apart from the odd thing (Like surgically bringing the snare ring back a bit)
Just thought it better dumped here than anywhere else, not bothered about it getting attention :v: I don't have my room fully moved yet so I only have one set of speakers to check the tonality with so it may be a bit off in the low end.
All sampling is illegal.
If you replay a short part of a song, instead of sampling, it is sorta legal.
If you alter or cut up the sample enough you can try to make it unnoticeable.
But essentially, yeah, sampling something is illegal, and you can get sued

You can ofc ask for permissions but you will probably have to pay royalties
100% correct. Note no matter how unnoticeable you try to make it or how much you alter it in general, it's still illegal
unless the song is released under the GPL (or compatible) but that's like 4 songs total and none of them are any good
[editline]22nd October 2011[/editline]
it's really a grey area because so many artists have been getting away with sampling for so long that nobody really realizes that it's technically a crime.
it's generally easier to sample indie bands or older songs because the labels don't care about that shit
sample marvin gaye all day
can I post some rough recordings in here or

Yes, that is the standard greeting here in Finland.

Or just a sound of a bear beating beaten to death.
Anyone have any tips for writing for sax quartet?
Anyone have any tips for writing for sax quartet?
Depends what combination of saxes you are using (I would gues AAAT?) and in what style. I've played in a few (mostly jazzy stuff) and written for them sometimes and it's normally set up so that the first alto takes a melody line, second takes a slightly less embellished version of the melody but provides harmony. Third either adds another degree of harmony with mostly the same rhythm as the second, or provides a countermelody depending on what you want. Tenor is almost exclusively on bassline and as such it is also used to plug any gaps to avoid silences.
Obviously you can throw around the parts within the altos as much as you like and give solos to any of the altos and the tenor (in which case I find it's quite cool to have the altos doing staccato chords over the top). The dynamic range in a sax quartet can be massive so be sure to utilise them as much as possible, same with articulation. Also it's probably best not too have too many rhythmic ideas going on at the same time, or to delve into polyphony as the saxes are all in the same range and timbre and it could produce a very messy and muddled sound. Obviously if you're playing SAAT, SATB or AATB then that is slightly different.
Those are just some things I've noticed from the quartets I've played in but by no means is it a list of rules or must-haves. Just have fun with it!
Thanks for the advice. I'm writing for AATB.
I'm planning on writing something following a more contemporary song structure, with a lot of syncopated staccato in the background, a solo or two and a very active bassline. Think ska for sax quartet. Simple harmonies, tuneful melodies and some fun in-between. Alto 1 for melody, Alto 2 mostly for harmonizing the melody (with the same rhythm), baritone for bass, and tenor for some backbone.
I'm realizing how rich the sax harmonics are, and I'm going to have to make sure to space my notes out. I was thinking of keeping the second alto about a third above the other, but that's probably too close.

Ok so I know about the hot hand and guitar effects and shit right
But why the hell is Nathan Navarro (bassist) using a glove for his bass? Do any of you know?
either to avoid getting blisters or so he can move around the neck faster and not worry about sweaty fingers slowing him down. really stupid imo lol
probably has a blister or something, I've worn a leather glove to protect my fingers before
When's the next Facepunch Collab coming? I haven't been keeping up on it (or anything in this section tbh), so I sorta missed the chance to get a song in on the last one.

I've used a wollen glove on my picking hand before for a more rounded tone with less attack, but the fretting hand? Never done that :o

I'm taking a stab in the dark and guessing it's to reduce squeaking when he slides his hand. That bass is put through so many effects that it would probably be really noisy.
maybe he's just a huge michael jackson fan but can't afford the sparkles.
Hey guys, I made a new song:
