Because I don't have a lot of better things to do with my spare time.
Has anyone gotten any tracks professionally mastered before? I'm tempted when my EP is ready, but I don't really know what I'd send them. It sounds stupid but just the mixdown? does it have to be mixed in a certain way? All that sort of stuff. And is it worth it?

And if it sounds bad before mastering it won't sound any better. In other words don't expect a professional mastering to polish a turd, the mix should be close to perfect.
Wrong, it is very much possible to make things that sounds bad to sound better ; It's just going to take a lot more time to mix though. It's definietly worth it, but it is going to cost you a lot of money, so be prepared to make an investment that might not repay itself. [editline]30th October 2011[/editline] I'd also like to try and master a track of yours, I'm always trying to master new things (for instance, I'm currently working on Pepins track "Painted Outside") and I'd be honoured to work on a track by another talented artist like yourself, chaz13. =)
yeah you can make bad things sound good, all it takes is getting somebody to redo it
What I meant was, If your mix has a positively shite guitar tone or overpowering vocal and you have only gave the mastering engineer a Stereo mix (Not Stems) it's still going to be a shit guitar tone and overpowering vocal at the end unless you want the engineer to carve massive sonic holes into your "masterpiece" to fix the mess you gave him/her. Give the engineer a turd and you get a turd back with a fresh pine scent and some clearcoat gloss applied to it to make it bearable, give the best you can get out of your mix and you'll get back a hit.
Used this whole day sitting behind logic, fixing unfinished tracks and making some new ones. Finally feel a bit productive. Problem is that time flies and my weekend is over..

(and i sometimes get lazy and mix it with it on, resulting in a horrific mix when it's off).

Man, I've been stuck inside not doing anything since I came back off tour mid October. I can't wait to get back out this month. I'm playing a club were Nirvana played exactly 20 years ago :D
hmm, I'm sitting and drooling over Omnisphere videos on the net. Anyone use it? Is it that great, and is there a lot of processor usage?
hmm, I'm sitting and drooling over Omnisphere videos on the net. Anyone use it? Is it that great, and is there a lot of processor usage?
I use Omnisphere almost exclusively. Check out my soundcloud for stuff I've done with it. It's a great software for sure!
i NEVER ask for freebies but i need $10 to cash out on this website, if people could go on and maybe buy it (i get 10 more cents if you buy it on this website rather than iTunes, but if you're willing to search it on iTunes you can do that too) then that would make a fantastic christmas present <3 http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/zackmurray [editline]1st November 2011[/editline] i've already got $5.70 in sales, for reference
I use Omnisphere almost exclusively. Check out my soundcloud for stuff I've done with it. It's a great software for sure!
Yea, I remember you mentioning it. It's quite expensive though. Same price as Logic Pro 9. The 1.5 Omnisphere has like 8000 sounds, which is quite insane.
So now that I have an interface what do you guys do? Do you write drum tracks before you record guitar or do you do the opposite?
So now that I have an interface what do you guys do? Do you write drum tracks before you record guitar or do you do the opposite?
Do the drums first, then guitar. But thats how I always record. Do whatevers best for you.
Talking about drums, is there any good drum set vst plugins out there?
Ezdrummer, Superior Drummer 2.0 if you're feelin' expensive.
What I've been doing is just taking my riffs and counting the beats on them Then I put whichever cymbal or drum on that note and then I see if I can develop a pattern, paste it and then play against it Time consuming though
Got my new keyboard/e.piano today, it's awesome, got it for a little less than 7000 kr (650 euros)
Having a really strange problem with massive. It's been fine, but now in a couple of my projects there's mysterious sounds being created by it for absolutely no discernable reason. Mostly "knocking" sounds, and occasionally random notes and things. This is in a heavily modulated reece bass patch, by the way. I don't mean like it's creating extra notes that shouldn't be there, more like there's some setting or something screwing up my patch somehow. Any ideas?
So now that I have an interface what do you guys do? Do you write drum tracks before you record guitar or do you do the opposite?
drums first always
i'll just leave this here... http://ollilaine.bandcamp.com/
I would buy it but I have no idea of what it is and I don't know what it'll sound like so I'll be a cheap bastard and download and if I like I'll see if I can buy it or atleast buy any coming albums.

Just make something that would fit the riff, and copy and paste it. You really are only going to care about the accents. Also, you don't need to do the drums first. You can record everything with a metronome, and that may work better for you. It's a lot easier to program drums for something that already exists.
Hey guys I made a new song and its pretty peaceful compared to the last few ones, but anyways: [sub]ps. yes, I still use the RSE you hate so much, Dick.[/sub]
Someone on a mixing site was offering a free mix so I took it up. His mix: My mix: Could I get some comments. This was a song from a year ago.
