Brahms Requiem with the Philadelphia Orchestra. I'm in the choir.
Not a bad 1,337th post.
So I got a banjo from a friend a month or so back and I've been learning to play it:

The bandanas are my strap :P
Hehe, My dad's a bluegrass banjo player (Earl scruggs style)
I want to find other musician communities like this.

tdpri gets pretty close sometimes
I find Fl Studio's look very dull and boring, sometimes it makes me lose inspiration and will to move on.
Uh, I'm at a crossroads. I can't decide if I should get an SM57 with mic stand and cable, or some monitors. Currently I have a audio-technica mb 1k and a radio shack mic that I never use, and the only thing I really use the mic for is recording vocals. I record everything else directly through my audio interface. It would be nice to have another mic, but I'm not sure if it is necessary.
I think I'm overdue for some monitors or some mixing headphones. What I'm using right now isn't at all that great. My room is terrible so I don't think monitors would be a good idea.
Also considering a drum set, preferably electronic. I was talking with someone and apparently the cheaper electronic ones are terrible. I don't know how to play the drums and I'm quite interested in learning. I could care less about the sound because I'd just record the midi and use Addictive drums. This one is likely out of my price range.
I the past 4 years, the thing that made the biggest difference to the sound I was getting was a pair of decent monitors and isolation pads.
My mixes went from flat, dull to wide and energetic within days of making the switch.
Having good equipment won't mean anything if you don't have the possibility of mixing them well, so yes, get the monitors.
If any of you would like to help a brother out, I've entered a remix contest. Features my best mix down yet. Also, I'm trying to win over all the generic dubstep remixes.

Thanks for checking it out dawgs
Speaking of remixing

The first time around, the riff is recorded with "direct in" in reaper, and the sound just drops off.
Second time around, I record with ASIO in reaper, which gives a flawless (as in, the sound stays the same) but instead there is this highpitched buzzing noise, which is incredibly annoying because boosting anything beyond the lows (200-600) boosts the shriek too.
Does anyone have an idea on what thell is wrong?

Wow, three days and no comments. Oh well.

There ya are :)
I've found out what the problem is : My amplifier is making that buzzing noise, now I just need to know what I can do to solve it.
Anyone has any ideas?
What kind of amp? Tube, transistor?
I'm thinking about buying new headphones, I can spend around ~150€. What would you recommend? I have heard only good about the sennheiser hd 555 earphones, but it's really hard to find them from finland :saddowns:
Solid state, I got a tube amp that I use for practicing (but can't record with it, and it's terrible anyways) but the amp I use for recording is actuall a bass amp. Gives it a much beefier sound that I just like a lot more than what I could possibly get from a guitar amp, or at least from a guitar amp that I can afford :v:

Oh and having a bass amp as guitar amplifier helps a lot when my bass-playing friend comes over, he doesn't have to take his one with him so we can jam.
I suggest taking the amp apart. If you aren't comfortable with doing that take it do a shop. A lot of things could have gone wrong. Also, do some tests to make sure it is the amp and not your cable or instrument.
If the problem with the amp and not a connector issue, it could be a power issue, or likely a smoothing capacitor that failed (those could overlap). It would make sense for it to be something that is related to the input, and it would make sense for it to be something that takes out noise.

break it down, inspect the board for any bad solder points, rebuild. if that doesn't fix it it's probably worth it to take it to a tech.
I've done some testing now, first I recorded with two different cables directly into the computer, still got the noise. Recorded on another computer, directly into computer and still noise. Either its the instruments, or it is the thing I use to plug in to the computer (from a instrument cable to 3.5mm) that's broken.
I'll just get a new converter, cheaper than getting new stuff :v:
Anyone seen this? It's a short movie called The Drummer. I liked it a lot!

Not sure where to ask this, but I want a new guitar amp for my birthday. Does anyone have some good suggestions that aren't really expensive?
I got a new song done!
I would REALLY appreciate it if you would listen and/or comment here

Well, guys, I'm thinking about making my next album a 2-parter.
Maybe with the second part being a single long song?
Anyways, here are the 2 covers I'll be using, most likely.

What do you guys think about that short beat here? :)
I've got inspired by music from LSD game intro :v:
Not really sure this is off-topic but it's not really worth its own thread. What would you recommend for a free drum vsti, I want acoustic sounding beats not drum machine stuff. Thanks.
You're going to have a hard time finding a free drum vsti that sounds good, ez drummer is a pretty good option if you got the money though:

I'm not really feeling these. The colours don't really work for me.
It looks like a honeycomb.
