Don't be like Claude speed or Tommy vercetti learn how to swim
I don't really understand why people are so afraid of the water. I'm not the best swimmer, but it took me less than 2 weeks to learn how to swim. The thing that people need to wrap their head around is this: You float on water! It's actually much harder to go UNDER water than it is to float. Even if you curl up into a cannonball, you'll still be on the surface of the water. It's just how water works. You don't have to be fat. Bodies just float on water, simple as that.
Bodies just float on water, simple as that.
Chyea, dead bodies. Only kidding. You guys are giving me tips on HOW to do strokes and stuff. (Thanks none the less) I need tips on how to stay alive.
Can't you doggy paddle? Every man on the planet can doggy paddle. Aren't you a man?
I learnt to swim as a kid, lessons from about 3-10 years old.
I can't swim

You could always learn in the ocean because it's much easier to float in saltwater.
I never learnt how to swim. The water learnt how to accept me as it's mighty master.

Swimming came naturally for me. When I got in the pool, I automatically knew how to stay afloat and move around.

And for the ocean? OP stop being such a pussy, my god. All you have to do is get into the water, the shallow end if you're really that much of a pansy. Then, you kick your legs. You kick them in a scissor motion, starting like this / \ ending like this || and repeating. Meanwhile, move your hands in a cupped position, back and forth around your torso, just under the surface of the water. Do both of those things at the same time and you are will success
If you have air in your lungs you float, simple as that.
We dutchies learn to swim at the moment we are 5 year old. It really isnt hard once you know how to do it. You never forget how to swim, it's like walking.
I can float and move slowly.
It is kind of sad to know that there are people who don't know how to swim I thought everyone learns this as a child... We even had classes in 4th grade. [editline]09:13AM[/editline] All the people posting "air in your lungs" obviously don't know how to swim.
Engorge your self on the copious amounts of piss water that is available to you.
Here's a free tip: If you hyperventilate for 3 breaths before holding your breath, it gets rid of all the excess Nitrogen that likes to chill out in your lungs, meaning you can hold more air. Don't do it for more than 3 breaths, however, this can cause you to black out before you feel the "out of air" sensation.

Also, our school didn't have a swimming class, it didn't even have a swimming pool. There was swim-team, but that was more competitive oriented for people who were already good at swimming.
Some people here seem to think swimming is all about breathing, lol :v:
I don't think trying to learn you to swim if you're afraid of the water is a good idea. Get comfortable in the water first, just fuck around and get used to it and then learn to swim.
I can't understand how somebody can't swim. It's not hard, it took me about half an hour to learn it. And I learned it with 4! But I'm surrounded with rivers and lakes, so I had lots of opportunities to learn it v:v:v
I CAN swim but I'm very very bad at it
I can swim and am very good at it. And thus I can't believe that some people actually can't swim.

If you keep your shit together you'll be fine.
stay calm, don't panic. if you do tend to panic in water, you should really ask yourself why you're freaking out, especially if you're in a pool because there's really nothing to panic about. grow balls
Meh, i can't swim and i'm 19, nearly got the hang of it until a drowned in the shallow end.
I'm an avarage swimmer.
