It is pretty clear that the first track will get a big advantage, and the next 3 tracks have more of an edge, but it really seems to stop after that.

Trying to figure what effect the two new things I put in had on distribution. If anyone has any opinions on that state them.
Also I think the time we had for this album to submit is good, so around 45 days.

Edit : I can see shit captain, and it's looking good
Do you think asking people to start on X track and having the song list had an effect on the distribution? Compare it to the stats given a few posts up.
Rate if you think it had a big effect
Rate if you think it had a decent effect
Rate if you think it had no effect or a negative effect
I did some crazy statistic calculations and it seems to be very well worth doing.
I did some crazy statistic calculations and it seems to be very well worth doing.
What did you do exactly? If you did something from a credible method I'll trust your answer.
Used the spearman's rank correlation coefficient
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spearman%27s_rank_correlation_coefficient
Wasn't a huge correlation but with a hypothesis test at 5% you can still assume it had a positive effect.
Enough to still justify using those again. I wouldn't contemplate get rid of the song list as I personally quite like it.
i wish there was more CC i can't grow as an acid-jazz musician because people on the internet are too lazy and people in person are too polite!
am I the only one that is focusing on the fact the album has only been downloaded 50 times
am I the only one that is focusing on the fact the album has only been downloaded 50 times
No, we're really going a bit downhill here. I don't think it's necessarily the quality (there were some awesome tracks on this one), people are just getting bored. Which is why with the next album I think we need to push a lot more to advertise other places, not just facepunch. Like, a lot more places.
EDIT: Oh and how about our own youtube channel?
we said that last time and no one did shit
Posted it here.
we said that last time and no one did shit
Which is why we should do more?
well to say we should do more means nothing, my point is we need to plan ahead, with things like who will post on what sites, actually setting up a youtube page and such beforehand, and so on and so on and so on. These things were mentioned in the last thread after the album "did" poorly but no one did a thing. Absolutely nothing.
don't take that the wrong way, it's just a matter of fact
One idea is having it as a submission requirement, like you'd have to advertise it one place other than Facepunch. The place would have to be on the internet so that we could see the thread. There would be a list of sites already taken and there'd be a thread typed up for you already so you could just copy and paste. I certainly don't like the idea, yet it would work provided people do advertise.
Rate if you like the idea
Rate if you don't
well that's not necessary, you just need to really really push the concept and heavily encourage it. I think if you show how few people downloaded the last album more people will actively promote this one.
Like I said, I don't like the idea, but just throwing it out there in case everyone else does.
To be blunt, maybe only 50 people liked the album enough to download it?
Also, the random song thing we had for this album was only for the people of facepunch, correct? It is a good concept in that respect, but you've got to think of the people who view the album directly from bandcamp or even places where we promoted it, I'm sure they would just start from the top.
listens don't matter worth shit though, honestly
Downloads are all that count
the only way listens matter really, and you have to think about this, is that they can determine the download. The first tracks should be representative of the rest of the album, and above par in terms of quality. That is how we have to approach that from now on if we want to shoot for downloads, which in my eyes is OBVIOUSLY what we should be doing.
Now what you have to look at is visits to download ratio. Right now it's 1:10, and that might be buffed because of the large number of people that submitted tracks to the album downloading it (which numbers around 25, not to say those people don't matter but they are a built in audience). My point is, you shouldn't be saying "only 50 people liked it enough to download" but "only 1 out of every 10 people downloaded it" and looking for as many ways as possible to increase that download ratio (which will be very difficult) and more importantly ways to increase visits to the bandcamp page. If we have 1:10 download ratio, that is the EXACT standard ratio for advertising in general (the general statistic being only 1 out of 10 people will be remotely interested in any advertisement) and so we're pretty on the mark in terms of the actual album content though we may see that number decrease as we venture further from home.
My point in all of this is nothing matters other than increasing album download interest and page visits (which increases downloads naturally). Our goal is not to just get people to listen once and leave but to download the album, is it not?
Another idea could be to release albums in batches. I mean, 25 songs or so per release is a bit much. We could split it up over a couple of weeks, in regards to how many tracks are submitted. So we'd have like FP Collab VII pt.1 and a week later comes FP Collab VII pt.2. This would increase the focus on individual tracks.

This sounds like a good idea, and given that we now have a lot of acoustic artists too, we could even possibly divide it up between "real" and electronic music too perhaps?
Or, we could just have that large batch (25 songs for instance) and then divide that batch on depending of the mood/feel of the songs, sort of like Guns N Roses - Use your Illusion I/II, with one being more upbeat while the other is more grandiose and diverse.

I'm not so convinced splitting the albums up is a good idea, we've already had a huge number of albums and I believe part of the problem is that people are getting bored- Bombarding them with even more won't help.
I agree with Vedicardi in so far as the ratio, but 1:10 is actually not bad at all so really we just need to get more viewers. Just need to advertise.
If no one's against it should I start setting up a youtube channel for us? The password and whatnot could be passed on to whoever's organising each album.
6 isn't a huge number! People are not bored, they are just a bit thrown back by the sheer amount of tracks on our releases. Far too many of them don't care to play past the few first tracks. That's the problem.
need moar metal
If anyone has something ambient or space rocky, post something in the concept album. We'll release it soon.

They could just be divided so that songs that are on the slower end are on one album, while on the other has more fast-oriented stuff. Set up a youtube channel, next album could be the start with all songs on youtube too. =)
Personally, I don't think it's the amount of albums that are the problem, but that there are a lot of songs in the albums, hell I know I got mentally tired halfway through the last album because of how long some of the songs were, they were good, but "having to" sift through so many songs in one listen is a lot.
Two albums means that both albums will be listened through faster and depending on your mood, you cna go with the more upbeat, or just put on the slower one to chill in the background.
Here are the plays for the first week of every album:
1 - 5,604
2 - 2,755
3 - 1,855
4 - 1,991
5 - 3,293
6 - 1,596
Here are the album download for the first week of every album:
1 - 264
2 - 114
3 - 062
4 - 050
5 - 070
6 - 041
Here is album downloads divided by plays for the first week of every album:
1 - 4.7%
2 - 4.1%
3 - 3.3%
4 - 2.5%
5 - 2.1%
6 - 2.5%
Here are the number of tracks on each album:
1 - 16
2 - 25
3 - 11
4 - 15
5 - 28
6 - 23
A correlation between the amount of tracks isn't clear. There does seem to be a correlation between the amount of downloads and the amount views, which would suggest that a reliable way to get more downloads would be to get more views, but I think that is besides the point because the objective here would be to increase the download percentage not the number of downloads.
Here are the stats for the last two days.
