I think it is safe to say that if our amount of plays double, that our amount of downloads will roughly double. The downloading aspect should be a bit more emphasized in the next album release.
I'm trying to think up some incentives for encouraging people to advertise, and by advertise I mean post it on public forums and related matters. It is probably better to create an incentive as opposed to a requirement. So far the only incentive I can think of is higher place on the album, so that the people who try to get more publicity for everyone else are also in essence getting more publicity for themselves. I think that sounds fair because they people who try to make the album more successful are benefiting most from their actions. To clarify, the order would still be decided randomly in a way, it's just that certain songs would have a higher probability. This system would have to have diminishing returns in that the difference between no advertisement and one advertisement would be moderate, and the difference between the ninth and tenth advertisement would be quite small.
I'm trying to think of other incentives. That's just one idea. Now the biggest challenge with that idea would be the numbers, what should the probability difference between no advertisements and none. I think much of that answer is experimental.
I'd like to use monetary incentives or maybe a steam gift type thing, but I don't have any money.
Steam gift for the person with the most plays. They would link to their own song on forums, and deliver collateral views for the album while they're at it.
Boom.
It's a sort of friendly competition. And you're helping the album too. EVERYONE wins.
[editline]24th October 2011[/editline]
Also the most accurate way to measure it.
Sort of unfair for the people on the top but all the more incentive to advertise for the ones at the bottom
The idea can be developed I recon

Problem is, even with our random viewing thing, people still watched the first track the most.
I think the fairest point is that everyone collaborating should put in a little extra effort to get their own song heard.
ie: "hey here's fp collab vii check out my track at #10!" and link to the full album at bandcamp.

Yeah but that isn't helping. And if you'd link your song first, the whole album would still get more views, it'd just be more motivating
[editline]25th October 2011[/editline]
Yeah neos3000, that can't be helped. People just don't feel like listening to whole albums all the time, and the first track is the obvious first pick
I'm not so convinced splitting the albums up is a good idea, we've already had a huge number of albums and I believe part of the problem is that people are getting bored- Bombarding them with even more won't help.
I agree with Vedicardi in so far as the ratio, but 1:10 is actually not bad at all so really we just need to get more viewers. Just need to advertise.
If no one's against it should I start setting up a youtube channel for us? The password and whatnot could be passed on to whoever's organising each album.
why don't people read my posts I said 1:10 is perfectly fine
[editline]25th October 2011[/editline]
6 isn't a huge number! People are not bored, they are just a bit thrown back by the sheer amount of tracks on our releases. Far too many of them don't care to play past the few first tracks. That's the problem.
that's why the first tracks should be selected rather than random

the correlation is between views and downloads, not plays and downloads. Do NOT use higher place on the album as incentive, as I've said you should actually be hand picking those tracks. I'll try to think of other incentives as well.

no
If you weren't aware, bandcamp keeps track of how people get linked to the page, ie if through direct link or through a website or what have you. Instead of getting the most individual plays (Which no offense is very stupid because it's just visits to one song and gives the person going to the site no reason to listen to the rest of the album), whoever's refer gets the most link through gets the gift. IE you would PM the host with where you advertised and posted a link, and then whomever got the most clicks to the album through their link (or links, you could combine multiple links) would win.

Yeah. I knew mine wasn't really useable.
Yours sounds okay.
I did, I was agreeing with you.
well you said "but" so it sounds like you were disagreeing or something. Oh well nevermind.
After some thinking, I'm going to have to agree with Vedicardi as far as picking the first 5 tracks. It really can't be helped that most people start on the first song, and they are of course going to base the album off the first couple of songs. It's easy to assume that if the first 5 songs are great that someone will be more likely to download the album for later viewing as opposed to if the first 5 songs were terrible. The logic works the same for streaming the album as well. The first 5 songs should be strong and varied to gives a decent taste of what the album is about. The rest would be decided by random order.
Nothing is set in stone of course, I'm still open to ideas and discussion, particularly about incentives. If someone has money to throw around, we could have a prize incentive.
Well for on FP or posting on forums you could use the "start on track X" but otherwise you don't have much choice.
Any more ideas?

I think we could have an interactive album cover and album art. I wasn't aware you could do that kind of stuff. I'm really not all that sure of how they are doing it though. What I'm mainly confused is that I thought the images would have spacing between them and that you could align them side by side. Maybe I'm just wrong on that.

Its a picture thats cut into a lot of pieces and some of the pieces direct to a website. Just try to click and drag any part of the picture.
That's a bad attempt, especially because I forgot to turn off the alpha. But, that idea will be done on the next album

And it looks like the auto spacing is based on width.
It works.
The negative to it is that breaking it up into all the different links would be really tedious. You could just link to the song, but I really like how I have a link to everything in the list.

what would you even use it for. there's no need to link to individual songs
But its pretty cool!
So how does one get in on these?

Wait for the next thread to appear, read the requirements from the OP and PM the OP with needed information and the song.
Start lobbying when you want to see the new thread.
Alright, it's a waiting game then.
Hope there's room for my uh, style.
As long as your style isn't generating two hours of silence in Audacity you should be fine.
Killing Bitches on the Streets Remastered needs to be on this.

Think early Death Cab mixed with Mumford & Sons.
I think I'll be set to join the next one.
New thread this weekend is my vote. Me & Chaz started a collab a couple weeks ago and haven't talked since then. :v:
"Ron Paul." Is my first real rap and is on my sound cloud if you would like it on there.
It's somewhat decent. It was my first "real" ever recorded rap though and might not be the best as material to come out soon.
