This is the song I'm planning to turn in, it's my first real song. I meant for it to be a combination of metal, rock, and dubstep but it didn't really turn out that way. I'm a terrible critic of myself, so I thought I'd get some criticism before I turn it in, please give me some. I know the drum beats sound terrible/cookie-cutter, I for some reason am really bad at them. [editline]9th October 2011[/editline] I'm also terrible at making song titles.
I'd call it "Let's Try Science!" because It reminds me of the Portal soundtrack
Alright, I'll probably use that since it also says something about how I was experimenting a lot with this. I'm assuming that because you didn't post any criticism it's pretty good, so I'm going to go ahead and send it off to Pepin.
The list looks pretty nice. Personally I really feel like these field requirements add a lot. For the release thread think I'm going to break up the thread into two sections. First is going to be the usual click on the album cover to listen to the album for people who intend on listening to the whole album. Then I'm going to have this list with the descriptions similar to the one below, maybe with album pictures included. Any other ideas? I wish you could embed flash on facepunch because I could do the linking on the cover and everything.
Silent-Bob - Fade Away Description: This track is a slower piece with complex percussions and some experimental atmospheric sounds. It is a visit back to my experimental phase with new practices and techniques and was a short break from the usual trance and house music I normally work on. It's genreless unless you'd like to just call it electronic, ambient or downtempo, but I created it with nothing specific in mind. Genre: Industrial Music Page: http://soundcloud.com/anarchoholic Son of Justice - Desert Colossus Description: This is a song I wrote back in winter 2008. I was depressed at the time and my musical style from then was all very melancholic instrumental stuff. I play both acoustic and electric and at the time most of my stuff was electric, very doomy, metal. This is one of the few acoustic songs I made from that era. I was experimenting with developing my style in what I like to call "Desert Blues" or "desert folk". The aura I tried to evoke was one of wandering through a mysterious desert, a wayfarer trying to find water. Metaphorically that is. This song perfectly exemplifies the mood I was in at that stage in my life. The tuning of the guitar is Drop D and I used a capo. The name of the song was inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, my favourite game ever, from the spirit temple part of the game, also my favourite part of the game. You can add Dick Tracy - New Dawn to that list Description : Like walking down a barren alley on a dark night in an abandoned town, praying you won't get noticed by what stalks in the shadow. Genre : Ambient Rock Music Page : http://soundcloud.com/dicktrace / http://snegreger.bandcamp.com/ I just got a few things to add to the song (you've heard it I believe) and I'm pretty much done. Couldn't find the drum tracks so I'll just add a synth to add another layer to the song. =)
Just be sure to go through the submission process as outlined in the OP when it is finished. It is much easier to keep track of PM's than it is of posts.
I'm not going to make it on time. I'm out.
65 minutes so far. 13 tracks. I'll be updating the front page OP when I get your submission.
Setting my track to -3db right now, it will be on the way quite soon.
Alright, so I finally came up with the idea. It's not perfect, but I think it'll work. The issue is 70% of the views are on the first two tracks. I was trying to come up with a more elaborate way of getting around this, but a simple dynamic image with a random number in it would work. Like it would say, "Start on track X" and that number would be filled in with a track number. The image generated would be different every time someone loaded the page. If someone is aware of a good site for this let me know, because I'm looking and having issues finding one. I can't ensure it'll do a lot, but we can compare the statistics from earlier albums to see. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] Here is my submission. The person that I'm collabing with should be sending me the vocals and some other stuff soon. The lead guitar hasn't been touched upped, just kind of improbbed it.
Sounds like a good idea, that image could then maybe work as a link to the album (Links to the randomly choosen track). I could try to create a dynamic image like that tomorrow.
The album cover is going to be the link to the album. A nice way to show the cover off. The way I have it imagined is that above the album cover with maybe an arrow pointing down. If anyone wants to design a simple template of that or something better they can. If not, just some dynamic text would work. If you make the random image could you host it as well? Looking into this there is plenty on how to do this, but it seems like you have to have access to a server. [editline]11th October 2011[/editline] The idea I'm kind of thinking of is like this The wording "Click on track X" might be better, though I think I'm over thinking it. It's a pretty bad mockup which is why I hope someone does something better. I hope nobody saw the first one I posted.
Yeah I can host it, threw this together now: Here's the link to the image http://rubik.facepalm.se:8080/scripts/img.php?n=15 Just put the number of tracks after 'n='.
dynamic image wouldn't work because bandcamp just autoplays the first track regardless. Definitely do dynamic links.

Should work quite well. Thanks a lot.
dynamic image wouldn't work because bandcamp just autoplays the first track regardless. Definitely do dynamic links.
The goal of this is the get people to start of say the fourth track. There is no way of automating it, they are going to have to click on the 4th track and there is no way to ensure that they will do this, but it should have some effect. How much of an effect? We'll have to wait to find out. It is possible that there might be little difference because people ignore it and still start on the first track, but if they follow it and start on track X, there should be a better distribution. Even if 50% of people follow it, there will be a much better distribution.
Or, we could compile a list of all the individual tracks' URLs, and randomize the link for each page refresh.
The thing is that we want someone listening to the whole album and links to individual tracks makes that process cumbersome because there is no playlist and no ability to skip. After you were done listening to the song, you'd have to go to the album page and then click on the next song. I think most people want to see the album page.
What do you mean? Like if you link a specific track it has "start on track whatever" like this?
No, it would be above like this. I don't think including it on the album would be a good idea because the image is being privately hosted and it would help to save some bandwidth. Though I think we need to add "Click on the album".

But we could just include a link to the full album page as well, for those who want it from the get-go. This method should at least produce the same results as simply just telling them where to start listening from.

sup guys here's that song i made for the collaborative... comments and cc plzzz
I have a lullaby I wrote on my Uke. It's short, and it's lullabyish... (with no lyrics). I doubt that'd be what anyone would want on this collab. Just let me know otherwise. Because I don't think I'd have anything else worth putting up! Cuz I almost never write my own stuff! :O
If you think it's good enough to put on the album it is good enough. I think I'm going to make a thread about that whole concept.
Can I still submit on deadline day? Because I have been really busy lately.
Yes, the deadline is the last day to submit. It's hard to give an exact time because everyone is in different parts of the world, but the idea is that on the next day the track order is decided and the album art will be finalized. It would be most safe to go according to eastern time.
Made my submition. Vodka & Ice, chilled neurofunk. Had to rush a bit :saddowns:
here is my tune, 'Feelings for you' some electro house to dubstep. The tune is further edited for the album though.
I am going to start working some more on my song soon, I believe it to be my best submission so far.
