Jupiter and Saturn with their moons look amazing when viewed with a powerful telescope.
Sucks though that most people (like me) living in a rather big city can never fully experience the sky due to light pollution.

Yea, I use to live in the middle of nowhere so I could see every star in the sky. It was amazing. Now where I live I see about 5 at most. Sucks
My dad was an avid stargazer. He had a telescope and everything at one point, I dunno what happened to it.
I'm gonna go out tonight and look at the fucking sky with some binoculars. Awesome.
Oh oh oh, also, I've seen the Milky Way in New Zealand. It was kick ass. :c00l:
I would but people would think I am nerdy if I got one.

Nobody needs to know.

Do people hide in your garden and stare at you or something?

What people think is important?

I can't help but laugh at how the "Professional" telescope looks like they just increased the size of the Advanced one by a few percent in photoshop or something.

they're idiots if they can't respect one's hobbies

Doesn't it?
Sky watching can be so fun. A few days ago I happen to see a fireball (bright shooting star, see below) by pure chance. Fireballs are basically the brightest shooting stars you will ever see. It was a brilliant blue-green streak and I can't be 100% sure, but I think it may have exploded, which would make it a bolide. It happened quite fast and caught me off guard.
A fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the planet Venus in the morning or evening sky. A bolide is a special type of fireball which explodes in a bright terminal flash at its end, often with visible fragmentation.
Looked a bit like this except more blueish green...or greenish blue.

Always wanted to see the Milky Way, but never have since it's so faint and there's so much light pollution here. :frown:
This is now my main goal for the FP camping trip, Lake District should be awesome for skywatching :3:
Been studying Astronomy GCSE for the past 2 years. Exam is next week. I can honestly say it's the best subject I've taken, purely because it is so interesting, and I can enjoy it. Our school bought a little observatory with a pretty good telescope in it, but it has never really worked due to the eyepiece being broken. Might get to use it for A-Level physics, but I'm not sure :frown:

It is similar to this one.
Here are two shots I made a few weeks ago with my cell phone through a homemade telescope:
Moon

Saturn

Sorry for the size :v:
So basically "skywatching" is star gazing but with a less girly sounding name?

Just by any chance, did you also post this on 4chan's /sci/ board?

What the fuck? That's amazing!
I looked outside and identified clouds and a sun.
Shit, I'm good at this.

Yeah, basically.

Or amateur Astronomy.
I'm focusing more on proffesional astronomy for the future (my plans of subjects to study, mainly mathematics and physics, is focused on the astronomy programme at the university), but I HAVE to get myself a telescope (or "Borrow" the observatory at the university...).
Just by any chance, did you also post this on 4chan's /sci/ board?
No.
No.
Meant that for Birki, because the first picture is vaguely familiar, and the second picture is too. Reminds me of this set of pictures some guy dumped, claiming he had taken them with his cellphone and a telescope.

Oh, okay.

No they are mine and I've also never been to 4chan.
Heres my BEAST, got it a few days ago as an upgrade on my ETX90PE

Well then, I guess I must've confused the too.
The Moon probably looks the same on all cellphones on all telescopes :v:
Stargazing seems to me like admiring the raw data of a JPG. I'm much more interested in the actual objects up there than what they appear like down here, after being distorted by distance, the atmosphere, surrounding light sources and the imperfections in our technology and vision.
