Meh, sounds like your just paranoid and think that theres someone there.[/QUOTE]
i've been to far more scarier places and sneaked around some abandoned old buildings in the night, but for some reason staying still and just looking up on the sky gives me the creeps
I don't want to sound like a hippie douche.
But when I skywatch, It makes me value the smaller things
and gives me a deeper understanding of our universe.
Anyone here have a list of what they've seen?
I've counted 5 satelites, many meteorites (shooting stars), M31 The Andromeda Galaxy, M13, Hercules Cluster, Double cluster, and good ol' jupiter.

I've seen Jupiter a bunch of times and the Perseids once or twice.
I'm trying to see Venus but I can't get it. Anyone have any tips? Apparently it's brighter than Jupiter and I can always find Jupiter, I guess it's because it's so high in the sky.
It's not up in Europe yet.
For me atleast.

Yeh, when the sun sets its usually right after it, following, as its closer to the sun than us.
But its visible during dusk for a short while near the horizon, you can't honestly miss it, bloody pin prick of blinding light. Looks good through a telescope despite its brightness.

I really couldn't count what i've seen over the years, with my old ETX i have probably seen most, if not all the Messier objects, most planets, some good nebulae.
With my new scope i've seen the Dumbell nebula, M57 the ring nebula, these 2 were the best one's i have seen so far. Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, the moon, M31 coupled with M110, Hercules Cluster, Double Cluster, a spiral galaxy that i can't remember the name of, and a few other things.
Havn't really had a good night when using my newer scope yet, but as the winter approaches, bring on the night sky! :ninja:
Everyone please watch these videos.
They are simply beautiful and can give you an idea about what is skywatching(stargazing) if you have never had a chance to watch our galaxy.

We need a "cool" rating
My dad and I are planning on buying a telescope together. He was the one who got me interested and he's always wanted a telescope.
Now that i'm earning money again though we can finally buy a good quality one
My girlfriend and I were skywatching once... and then she gave me a blowjob :smug:

A friend and I do this quite often. Nip up to the nearest field and snap pics of the heavens.
FYI, the movement is from the movement of the Earth, not a shaky hand.
I have more, if y'all want to see them.

Personal favourite.

Did you use a long shutter time? How long?
I'm not going to quote the images again because it's just above this post, but I love how in the bottom left corner of the second image you can see the trail of a plane, and the three lights flashing at intervals.
The sheer variety of threads on Facepunch amaze me, I never would of thought I'd find other amateur astronomers on a site like this, at least not a large enough community to actively discuss things relating to the hobby... I really should frequent general discussion more often.
I've been an avid amateur astronomer for years. The past two years I've done little, however, because at one point I got obsessive. I became more focused on the equipment than the actual skywatching, and I spent all my money and still wasn't happy... But in the last few weeks I've once again pulled out my old telescope, and realized that I really have more than I need. I want to do some astrophotography again before long.
My current scope is a Meade LXD75 6'' Schmidt-Newtonian. I have a love-hate relationship with it. On one hand it has great optics and is well built, on the other hand it has constant mechanical problems and it's a beast to lug around. But I'm still thankful to have it.
I think the OP of this topic isn't the most informative, I'll say what can be done to fix that later.
starlight gives you cancer.
I skywatch with night vision goggles. Look out into the sky and imagine every star you see has fifty stars around it that you don't see. With the goggles, I see it all.
I love skywatching. It really makes you feel small.
I never understood why the thread OP named this "Skywatching"
Is it stargazing with a less girly name? Seriously, everywhere I go, it's either Stargazing, or Amateur Astronomy.

Maybe because it shows how insignificant we are in the universe. It becomes a little intimidating to see that the universe really doesn't revovle around us.
Tripping and watching sky goes together very well.
It's basically the most clear and beautiful sky you can ever see.
When i was a child i skywatched a lot.. but it was back in the day..
Now the light are turned on on even at late late night, and you know you can't see the stars by the city lights
Yeh, looking at the sky at night seeing beautiful dots, then to look through a telescope and see very fine detail.......
Recently, I've seen the Milky Way much clearer than usual. If you look directly up (East Coast USA), you can see what look like clouds. If you look through binoculars, you can see lots of stars.
I have a fear of the sky. Not even shitting here.
This is awesome.
I wish i had a telescope
Kabump.
Orion is finally coming up today at a good time so I wont fall asleep before it does.
Can NOT wait. Never seen it through my scope/binos

Hell yeah, I spotted those wonderfully symmetric lines of stars just yesterday, it was a pretty clear night too.
I have honestly no idea why the hell you would want to watch the sky
