I should ask him where can I get some books on C++ that I can buy from the internet. I always wanted to honestly, Game programming seems so fun and is one of the jobs where you can go to with a smile on your face and have fun if you actually go to a company that appreciates their employee's and a good fanbase and I'd wish to become apart of that, but sadly none of stores sold books of programming language and how to do it. :smith:
Honestly, your best bet would be finding someone who can help you learn the language. A book is great but unless you are really dedicated, it will become boring fast. Books also just go over the same repetitive stuff whereas with someone helping you, they can give you tips and pointers like "You forgot [blah] needs to be capitalised, etc" Then again, you might be better off than me. I've given up on books as my school (Which I will be done with in a few months) has the latest in books showing you how to code in Visual Basic 6! Oh boy!
This is what Valve is about, listening to fans.
Wow, Gabe really is a cool guy! Maybe I should try to chit chat with him, hm.. Just for fun.
You figured out that GabeN is awesome just now? Man you are slow.
Wait so, what if we asked him for a certain "present", by this I mean Episode 3.
He would send you Episode 3. Hello Kitty: Magic Island Episode Three that is.
Thats very generous of him. If more developers were like that.
I've personally never emailed Gabe, but this has been known for awhile. Like a year before the orange box hit that guy from HL2world emailed Gabe asking for a way to stress test his new PC and Gabe sent him a copy of the Particle Benchmark for source. That he then went and leaked all over the internet... Anyways, Gabe is Awesome, this is not new information. It is still worth hitting him up every now and then to see if he'll give you free stuff.
GabeN is totally awesome!
I just wrote Gabe an e-mail linking him to this thread and telling him what a nice guy he was :buddy:
I just wrote Gabe an e-mail linking him to this thread and telling him what a nice guy he was :buddy:
Hah, really? I sent one off sort of thanking him/Valve for all the work they've done. Wonder if he'll actually read the thread.
Keep an eye on the event log incase "GabeN" registers :v:
Nah, that name's already taken. I actually had to save my letter to a text file while writing it, since I was making the entry field scroll. It didn't look as long once in notepad though.
I hope he replies :3:
That'd be amazing.
Here is an e-mail I sent him, what do ya think?
Dear Gabe, Firstly, I'm sorry about my previous e-mail, I was a bit tired. But anyway, I want to congratulate you and the Valve team for accomplishing feats no other video game company will ever archive. Like creating the best games in the industry like Half Life 2. Starting the largest video game community in the world. And most importantly, gaining respect from gamers. You and Valve is the most respected game company today. You know why? You and Valve respect the community the same way as we respect you. You might get tons of e-mails everyday and this particular e-mail might not be noticed by you, but I want to say that I really appreciate that you at least try to answer all the e-mails you get. And I would certainly appreciate if you answer this one, it means a lot to me. As a small favor from me, could you say hi to the Valve team from me personally and tell them I congratulate them? I hope its not too much... And I hope you and the team appreciate this e-mail, an e-mail from one member from the team would make me very happy. I think I am asking for too much now, anything that comes from you or someone from the team will make me very happy since you and Valve mean a lot to me. Thank you Signed, Marcus
I ordered some shirts + and a weighted companion cube plush for my birthday from the steam merch store (Yes I'm a nerd/faggot/whatever) And as soon as I quit this thread the first time I checked it it said my payment went through + the stuff had been shipped, it's like Gabe was watching over me and thought "Hey this persons pretty cool lets accept their credit card" I seriously doubt that last bit but I can still daydream. Also, does anyone have a number as to just how many people are actually on the valve team?
I emailed him once asking for a pre-release version of Fart Cops and he never replied
I emailed him once asking for a pre-release version of Fart Cops and he never replied
I am surprised.
;28361434']I am surprised.
Me too, I even told him that I work for a prestigious media review company and that I can guarantee an 80%+ review if I get an exclusive
Anyone like my e-mail? :buddy:
I sent him a picture I drew, and the only response was
Thanks, Jonas. Gabe.
:smith: Oh well, that was surprisingly quick though. 3 hours from I sent to the reply.
That's nice and all but why in the world would you want Gabe Newell's autograph?
Gabe's reply to my email
Yes, I will.
:smith:
Gabe's reply to my email: oh wait,i never got a reply :smith:
Gabe's reply to my email :smith:
And he still didn't replied to my email about Paper Headcrab. I hope he wasn't like "Oh wow, his grammar is bad, let's ignore it" I mean, he isn't a person like that!
valve are fucking awesome
I will buy a frame for it tomorrow, and then play portal 2 with it when it is released.
Gabe's reply to my email :smith:
Hey, he's busy. Atleast he promised to say hi to the valve team from you.
He probably sends mouse pads to everyone, but accidentally eats them. Looks like he forgot one.
Gabe is awesome
