Also cable companies pay channels so they can broadcast those channels, usually its enough, but not always depends on the channel.
Even discovery has some car ads from time to time.
Well since you're in army shouldn't you be fighting a war not sitting around on your ass watching tv?

I'm still finishing high school. In June next year I'll be off to BCT and then ship out.

The only reason that I pay for cable is because of sports.
Otherwise, my favorite shows are on antenna and are available free online on sites like Hulu (sorry non US residents).
