Never read Atlas Shrugged, but I did make the mistake of downloading "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" in audio-book format. Best sleep-aid I've ever had. And I somehow doubt a trilogy of Atlas Shrugged would be any better. Lord of the Rings had a trilogy too but then it was also comprised of 3 books, so that tells me right there that Atlas Shrugged is going to spend inane amounts of time yammering on about miscellaneous details.
I'm pretty sure even all put together Lord of the Rings isn't as long as Atlas Shrugged

If Atlas Shrugged developed a sequel, I would have said fuck it. She's way too long winded, and when she was still alive, she probably wanked off to the fact that she was, because she was sexless. She was also homely and disgusting looking. I don't think I need to show anyone a picture. But she did have insight which helped me become confident. Confident enough to make these posts, and If I fuck up, I learn a lesson from it. Oh well! I filmed myself burning this book and uploaded it on the net to spite an Objectivist friend I have. [editline]19th April 2011[/editline]
This is a strange complaint to have about a writer/philosopher.
What he's saying is she can't write for shit, and never got laid.
:suicide:

as the book is reportedly 1100 pages
Hah, the guy said the book is reportedly 1100 pages. Why don't you fucking go to your library and look at how long the book is. Or even wikipedia. You know, maybe your friend was just one of those fanatics, who read too much into her ideals? I like to take each ideal with a grain of salt. I may have a few rants here and there, but I'm trying to keep the conversation going with half-decent banter, rather than start a flame war. Looks like someone is getting the point!
I thought Anthem was pretty good.
you really, really like exclamation marks dontcha
It's just for flare. What's not to like about them? Other than the fact that we're off topic?
You're just mad because your entire political philosophy was just disproved by a talking flower.
I got around to reading the whole book about 9 months ago, and I can just about say I probably wouldn't spend so much time reading a book of its calibre again Wouldn't want to further poison the idea that I wasted a few months trying to read all 1200 pages of it by seeing a crappy TV movie

You have to give this movie at least some credit. It's the first time that I've seen the trailer for a movie and still didn't know what the fuck it was about.

I read the damned thing and I didn't get what it was about until the beginning of part three.
So is this so bad it's good or so bad it's horrible?
The latter, I think.
I bought the book a while back thinking it would be interesting. Stopped reading a couple of chapters in when I realised it was probably going to be 1300 pages of discussion about the best material for train tracks.
Best material for train tracks is thousands of compressed Atlas Shrugged novels.
I was actually thinking about reading the book, since the movie looked like it was going to suck so much. also, this
Atlas Shrugged exceeded my expectations, but fell short of my hopes. It was a quickly paced and entertaining story about a corrupt government and a bunch of businessmen fighting to survive under its oppression, but Rand's philosophy was barely scraped, and the result was a fun movie that lacked any real soul. I disliked the Atlas Shrugged movie for the same reason anybody might dislike a cover band--even though it was a faithful interpretation of the work, it lacked the soul and creativity that drove the original. Anybody walking away from this without any previous knowledge of Rand's philosophy would completely miss the point (though most people completely miss the point anyway, arguing that objectivism is simply a big "fuck you" to poor people). Furthermore, trying to make it a trilogy is a very bold move that I don't think will pay off--even if each film does only have a five million dollar budget. They used the budget very well, but the movie wasn't marketed at all (I didn't even realize it was out, except by chance), and was placed in very few theaters (there was only one theater in the greater city area that was even playing the movie, and even that only had a few showings a day, and with near-empty theaters). At this rate, they won't even have the chance to finish telling the story. I would honestly be surprised if the movie is successful enough to warrant one sequel, let alone a trilogy. I would recommend that anybody who enjoyed Atlas Shrugged for its story see this movie, but don't expect the same kind of impassioned writing and compelling ideals that made the book so interesting.
Are you defending objectivism
Nah, I think he's complaining about people judging objectivism a little too fast.
