Poor choice of words on my part: I meant "expense" as "personal suffering," rather than finance, but I do agree with you. Some level of government intervention is necessary in keeping a fair and balanced economy. I tend to believe that less is better, but the sort of financial anarchy that Rand preaches could never sustain itself.
ShivianCommander just jizzed his pants.
ShivianCommander just jizzed his pants.
who is he again

Capitalism is a strong engine, in that regard Rand was correct, but like any powerful engine it will destroy itself if allowed to run full-tilt, and as such it needs to be goverened. It's been shown time and again what happens when the market's told it can do whatever it wants (housing market crash being a more recent one).
Just been trolling the libs statuses on facebook who loved the film.
who is he again
He's the crossdressing guy who defends libitarianisim with his life.

the book is amazing , dont care if its a bible for objectivism, libertarianism.
I've only read Anthem by Ayn Rand, but judging from that she's an absolute lunatic.

Well, this thread has been a rousing success. Unlike Atlas Shrugged hahahah
Atlas Shrugged? No wonder Japan had that earthquake.
Good news everyone! They're not going to make the sequels.

They're not going to make the sequels.

"Critics, you won," Aglialoro told the Times , adding, "I'm having deep second thoughts on why I should do Part 2." The newspaper observed that only one major film critic gave the film a "mixed-to-positive" review -- Kyle Smith of the New York Post , whose reviews are sometimes sprinkled with his conservative/libertarian comments. " The New York Times gave us the most hateful review of all," said Aglialoro. "They didn't cover it."
Source The market has spoken.
It's a terrible book, and it's much too long to be made into a movie
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I don't fully agree with all of the hate directed towards the book. Is it the greatest book ever written? Not even close. That doesn't mean that is entirely lacking of redeeming qualities though. I'll agree that Objectivism is a ridiculous philosophy, but if you can look past that fact, and don't mind wading through long, drawn-out essays, the novel is quite an interesting read. I don't think that I'd ever considering reading it again, or even recommending it to anyone, but I'm glad that I've read through it once. Besides, the movie can't be that bad: it'd be pretty hard top the Fountainhead film in that respect.

It's not a bad story, and I'm glad I read it, but it was excruciating at points, and I do not support the philosophy. And it can be that bad. The movie is only part one. Remember that? It was roughly up to the point they built the John Galt line. Literally, the entire thing is about what metals are best and squirming around red tape to build train tracks. I haven't seen it, but that can't be good at all by itself.

Ayn Rand is a bitch.
