I finally got around to replacing the crushed ac condenser on my car, and I learned two things: 1: its not integrated with the trans cooler, its integrated with the engine oil cooler, and Ive got no fuckin clue where the trans cooler is. 2: I ordered the wrong ac condenser, this one doesnt have the thermo-valve for the oil cooler. Silly me now paying attention. [editline]14th September 2016[/editline]
Is it me or do Elio seem closer than ever to actually going in to production and becoming a thing? Check out their website, less than 7,000 reservations still available. I think I read 2017 is the goal for production. Also, interesting potential upgrade/alternative for ICEs:
That brings up something, im still surprised at how running engines on gasoline vapor still doesnt get any attention from anyone, and when it does, its quickly dismissed as conspiracy theory bullshit like GEET engines. I had my minibike running on gas vapor for a while, and while I dont have the equipment to test emissions, I can definitely say that the exhaust smelled a lot cleaner than running on a carb. I never got around to testing mpg change either, because the old engine ran too shitty to make it 3 miles down the road, on vapor or carb. Maybe Ill build another version to put on the 212 so I can finally test that.
My parking brake light keeps coming on during braking or if I lift off the gas suddenly after hard acceleration. Is it the parking brake return spring that's causing this?

Germany and America did it for 6 years during WWII because no one could successfully collect Russia's oil, including Russia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_gas_generator
My parking brake light keeps coming on during braking or if I lift off the gas suddenly after hard acceleration. Im just sitting here imagining a goodgas generator for the minibike, and I cant think of a way to get it smaller than a large suitcase. I can understand why woodgas isnt used on cars anymore, because of the lengthy startup process and carbon monoxide poisoning, but if anything, running on gasoline vapor is simpler than carburation or fuel injection, as long as you get the mix right.
I mean, technically, aren't all gasoline vehicles gas vapor? Gasoline liquid can't actually combust, so it has to be in a specific range of vapor pressure to ignite. I don't know the difference between gas vapor engines and a standard internal combustion engine.
I'm hoping Elio does take off. It's a cool car to me. I like shit tons of horsepower but getting crazy MPG is the other end spectrum. Add a turbo and you get best of both worlds.

The idea is that if you let the gasoline evaporate on its own or by aerating it, or by adding heat to the mix after doing normal carburation stuff, more of the gasoline is actually vaporized, so the engine can run on much leaner mixes, and as a byproduct, less emissions that come from unburnt fuel. I found a pdf with a bunch of old patent diagrams for it, I wonder if I can find it again. EDIT: Found it http://www.apparentlyapparel.com/uploads/5/3/5/6/5356442/200mpg-carb.pdf This one would probably be my favorite if it had some sort of heating element
I would like to see lithium batteries and solar panel prices go down.....
1: its not integrated with the trans cooler, its integrated with the engine oil cooler, and Ive got no fuckin clue where the trans cooler is.
Almost 100% in the radiator, if it's the Vic you're talking about. There's not many American cars that don't run the trans cooler to the radiator it seems like, helps get the trans up to temp faster then keeps it at a steady 200*F or so where it's happy. Don't see many with separate ones, although the '95 Talon TSi did have it's own, which was cool (and leaking). Not many pics today.. but I did finally take blade to car :) Cut off the brackets I don't plan to use, including the shitty battery tray! PLUS bought a gallon of the Java Black Pearl and a gallon of clear! Next up is going ham with the wire wheel in the rusted areas, finding what needs to be chopped out, chopping it out, then beginning welding all the holes shut! I had it up in the air with the wheels off to undercoat it today, but the more I looked at it the bottom of the car needs attention in some of the seam areas, where rust has started to pop some. I want to knock all that down, seal it up with POR15 (or cut and replace if necessary), and THEN undercoat it. So that can be another winter project. The main goal right now is to get the engine bay shaved and painted by winter time, because I can't spray paint in a tiny garage heated with an open flame, ha. The rest of the stuff, bodywork, etc, I can do.
-pics and celicas-
this project is awesome man, im looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

Snik pik [t]https://puu.sh/rcnNP.jpg[/t]
Oooooo shiny
The previous owner of my car had put underbody lights on it, which I had unhooked because they were stupid but not fully removed because I didn't feel like getting under the car. Today I felt a thud that felt like I ran over a 2x4. The underbody lights are gone. RIP
Well, they're illegal in VA for some weird reason, so, nice knowing them?

RIP
Lol when I had my monte carlo the previous owner put underglow on it (which was hilarious because it was a stock base model) and didn't tell me. It had the switch mounted on the left side kick panel took me a year to figure out what the fuck it was for til I hit it with my boot as I was getting out of the car and wouldn't ya know the entire goddamn ground was lit up like a Christmas tree
Cappuccinos made to look like tiny versions of other cars is my new obsession. Those are actually pretty sweet. I've always kind of wondered what one of those would be like with a turbo 'busa motor in em and with the '91s able to be imported it would be cheapish to do but A. I'm big and those mofuckas are tiny and B. I know me I would be the guy that ends up on the news cause he wrapped his 'busa powered cappuccino around a tree "And witnesses say his last words were YEEEEHHAAAAWWW Y'ALL WATCH THIS SHIT"
Those headlights are so freaking big on them, lol. It reminds me of animu eyes.

[t]http://imgkk.com/i/_-k_.jpg[/t] got plenty of life left in em [editline]16th September 2016[/editline] also knock sensor went bad. tested it with the good old rubber mallet to the exhaust manifold trick and yeah it's definitely gone out fortunately it's not knocking so I can live with it for a little while
I stopped to move some rocks off of my road, and as I'm walking back to the car, it looked really good to me so I snapped a few photos. Still need to get around to fixing the front markerlights and removing the awful fart can..
Awesome! How are you liking it?
Probably the most fun I've ever had driving, by far, and it's also insanely reliable compared to my old Camaro. I've already put ~2700 miles on it since I bought it, most of which is just cruising around. Although it does like to shit the bed every now and then and not idle, tho I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump on its way out the door. She's coming together very nice, just a few more finishing touches to be done. [editline]16th September 2016[/editline] Also did I mention that my brother bought one too? Those 80s Camaros have a unique attitude that's not really found in any other car. The Firebird from that period, too, but in a separate sense. I love them, just wish they weren't mechanical turds :v:

Maybe 35 years is the mark where everything starts going to shit on it but man, she was never happy to be drivable for more than 3 weeks at a time. Oh well, I loved that ornery little shit. [editline]16th September 2016[/editline] At least mine had a swapped REAL V8 in it that made some damn good noise.
