It took ages for it to thaw so I went for a drive since I was stuck in there anyways :v:
I drowned them in chain oil for now. But there's this trick with bending some rods in there to make them work during winter.
VW Caddy or cadillac?
Also, to add to FP failure: I "helped" a mate change the oil and muffler on his W211 Merc at a local gas station, then we rolled the Saab in and jacked it up only to find the jack didn't go high enough to get the wheels off the ground. Just hoping that another garage can swap my CV joints before Wednesday, or that they'll last until next year.

VW Caddy, great cars but it's the fifth caddy/polo we had this issue with.
Can't you jack it under the subframe or trailing arm or whatever it's in English? At that point you only need to lift a few centimeters.
manuals suck for trucks though, unless you're trying to build an offroader but then just buy a jeep cherokee or something.
For a short while I daily'd a South Korean crapcan on page 5 of this thread with a stick, how bad can it be?

I'm not comfortable with jacking it by the spring. Besides, where the jack met the track it looked pretty shoddy, if I'd moved the jack to one side it might just crack. And jacking each side at a time would've taken twice as long (we only had a couple hours)

obscenely heavy vehicle with large amounts of power + clutch = blown clutch.
it takes a much more expensive clutch to hold the kind of abuse a truck goes through, unless you're talking something like an elco or a b1000
I'd just get a small cheapo truck like an Isuzu pickup or Chevy S10 to be honest. Already daily an F250 for work and I don't need that kind of power at home.
Lol I didn't change anything except the elbow that broke. My roommate is a po' boy and honestly should have a Civic or something instead of a BMW. I'm sure he'll wait until more plastic things break until he buys new ones, or a new engine, or any of that stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll bother him about it and see if he's interested.
The car made a round trip to a town about 20 minutes away today I guess. Coolant is still in the same spot, so.. maybe we're OK.
You're fine for now, but if the water pump hasn't been replaced yet it's liable to fail very soon, at which time the car will overheat and you'll likely find chunks of plastic in the fluid reservoir. The water pump pulley that holds the clutch fan in place is ALSO plastic. All of these can be replaced with aluminum for around $50 on eBay. Avoids running into situations like this:

SO. now I need to source one, replace it (in the cold) and refill the coolant and all that ish and hope to kami-sama that the headgasket isn't blown/head isn't warped from running it TO THE RED. Urgh.
Hahah you poor motherfucker, I had to replace this part in my 318ti not long ago.
But how the fuck did you replace this in a few hours? I had to remove my entire intake and most of my wiring loom to reach it.
Almost done

By almost I mean we're only halfway but still :v:
A 4 door mustang prolly wouldnt look right, but I'm sure would get a cult following. Some cars are just meant to be 2 door.
Others, should have never been 2 door in the first place.
You are actually referring to a crown vic
4WD is awesome. This truck would be awesome if it weren't for being carbeurated and having such trouble in the cold (it's -7* F right now).

EFI swap, if you're lucky, the block & head was re-used later for a EFI motor, and as such it's mostly a external bits swap.
But wiring might make it a spaghetti mess, unless you know some wiring guru to team up with.

Tiny hands my dude. And the right tools. And just experience I guess. I yanked the cowl and it was just barely enough room. I dropped my damn ratchet onto the trans which was too sad lol

Kinda what I'm thinking. The car doesn't have a computer in it, so at least it's a mostly blank slate. But that's still a crap ton of wiring that would be required.

I would love a mk1 body but I would rather have a better work truk.
Unless it has a vr6 in it.
lol no, 8v GX block in the black one, made 120hp @4800rpm/123lb.ft@2500rpm on my mustang dyno (megasquirt, other things) the engine in the race car is definitely hotter despite keeping it's bosch CIS fuel injection and G grind cam. VR6s just add nose weight.
I'm thinking about buying a little subie of some form either an outback or a forester for this winter. We moved up here and were not prepared for the snow lol my truck makes it fine and the jeep makes it fine but the jeep has no top and no heater and I'd prefer if my GF wasn't a popsicle while also preferring if she didn't have to drive the car that's one good throttle blip from being a fishtailing mess even on blizzaks. Anybody got any suggestions on what I should look for in a forester/outback cause really all I have any experience in as far as subaru goes is impreza's and while I'd like an impreza (so would she) none of the ones I've seen so far has passed the sniff test
What year ranges are you looking into? Budget?
The biggest thing is checking every fluid before buying, making sure it was maintained.
Thoroughly check the coolant, let it run for a while, make sure no fluids are mixing.
Subaru's tend to develop headgasket leaks when coolant changes are neglected for very long periods.
Before starting any, check the oil. If it is overfull by 1 quart, the previous owner never checked the oil right. I looked into 3, every single one was overfilled by exactly 1 quart from improperly checking the oil.
Timing belt is due every 80-100k miles, very important to do.
I've had a '99 Impreza Outback Sport since 2005, just bought a very rare '99 Legacy Outback SUS last month, plan to get a Forester at some point. Love these cars, absolutely brilliant.
Blower motor decided to stop working last night in 22f weather, got in the civic and it just didn't work. I'm leaning towards the switch since I sprayed some "electronic cleaner" in it the other night. It's always acted a touch funny being a little stiff and on the very rare occasion with the blower motor randomly deciding that it isn't going to come on until a minute or so later down the road.
I just took this garbage apart the other day trying to convert the climate control front panel to amber... Now I'm probably going to have to take the climate control out and mess with it, luckily there's not too much to it other than 3 cables and a fan selector.

Shoulda removed the clutch fan and cowl, in that order. Leaves a ton of room in front of the motor too, all the more reason to ditch the clutch fan for an e-fan. Just so long as you remember it's reverse threaded.

I feel your pain, the blower stopped working in my mercedes sprinter van. It's like driving blind on a cold morning :v:
A friend of mine had an issue with the blower motor in his grand marquee, seiezed up fromac condensation and the drain being blocked.
The motor would try to spin up but just hummed the "i cant" sound motor do. So i pulled it and ripped the motor apart, and got it un stuck. The bottom of the motor had water sitting in it and no way to get it out. Works fine now. As long as those motors are not factory clamped together they can usually be fixed.

I feel your pain as well. The climate control unit in my S-Class went, ordered a new one to the tune of $209 shipped to my door.

Hard limit for budget is around 9k ideally I'd like to come in closer to 6-6.5K but if not whatever. I've looked at everything from 97-07 as far as year goes I'm not really picky I'd like the 2.5 and manual but a slushbox is ok too. So far I've just been dodging rust (rather not inherit someone elses rust monster) and hooned out impreza's there's an '00 manual 2.5 RS that's kind of got my eye but it's got a rebuilt engine in it (133K on the frame motor was replaced at 106K) and I haven't been down there to see why yet however it's mostly stock except for OEM interior upgrades and OEM exterior stuff which is nice and a pretty extensive work history apparently which is also appreciated
Anyone in South Carolina? Might be going down there at the end of January for a couple weeks. Wondering what the weather's like and if there's anything I should check out if I have any down time.
I cant really say for south Carolina, but here in florida we aren't partaking in winter much this year.
Wanna hit the beach? :v:

Used to be. It'll probably be 50's at lowest and rainy at the worst.
